MeadowRaiN

MeadowRain the Gnome

Born in a thicket, near a beautiful meadow, in a small suburban town, MeadowRain the male Magnus grew up with a pretty average Magnus-Hood.

His favourite passtime almost as soon as he could walk was to hop among the flowers and smoosh the colours out of them. He discovered at a very young age that the colours would get stuck in his hoofs and he could later smear a rainbow of them across the grey rocks by the pond where he drank.

MeadowRain marveled at the deigns and markings that came from his hoofs.

Because he lived near civilization he often heard people as they travelled by the outer rim of his meadow. He would sneak peeks at them, following whatever images he could see through the gaps in the trees.

MR's meadow bordered a public park. He watched the people; sitting on benches, eating their people food and chatting in their people talk, he saw them doing different things, reading, knitting, etc . Of course he didn't understnd what these things were, but one day he recognized something they did that he had done himself; he came across a person who was smearing colours across a strange flat surface much like he did with his hooves.

The colours were so vibrant and the shapes they made were amazing and some of them resembled things around him that he had seen before.

This amazed MR to no end. He came to realize that the reason the people could make such beautiful shapes was because of the utensils they held with the unique hooves that they had. They had such control with their painting utencils, he wished so badly that he could do the same. Not to mention, be able to get his hands on the colours they used. He tried doing the same thing using small branches and flower stems, but he could never quite get enough of the colours from his hooves onto the branch.

One day, while searching, with his friend Bob, for other brushes they ran into some strange little creatures who seemed to be tending to the shrubs and flowers found on the perimeter of the meadow. They looked like the people he recognized from the park, except much, much smaller! In fact he had to look down at them to speak to them. He gave a cheerful greeting and smiled as big as he could to show that he was being friendly. The tiny people were friendly enough and greeted him as well, which surprisingly, MR could understand!

Their conversation basically explained that the little people were actually called "Gnomes" and their job was to keep the meadow and surrounding area clean, blooming and colourful using their Gnome magic. They had explained that they had recognized MR, as they did all of the animals and every critter in the meadow and area, otherwise known, they explained , as the "Greater Meadow Area".

They knew MR, and also knew of the wonderful "paintings" he did on the rocks by the pond., and said that they thought MR would make a wonderful addition to their contingent of dedicated meadow caretakers. Of course this excited MR, as he loved learning new things.

So, he became a member of the meadow helpers and worked with them for some time trimming back branches with his deer teeth, stomping weeds with his hooves and trying desperately to add colour where he could with his flower "painting" method. This made him happy but he quite often felt awkward and unable to move as agiley as his little friends. He learned that their "hooves" were called "hands" and because of the fingers they had on them they had a great deal more dexterity than MR. He wished he could work along side them and have hands like they did so he could apply the colours he loved working with with much more ease.

The Gnomes realized that MR was not only a hard worker, but he was very creative. They also knew that he thought wistfully about being more like them. They figured perhaps he would be better at his job if he was like them and began discussing the possibility of his transformation...
