You are lost amid the heavy snow falls of the Arctic Frost. As you travel through the freezing winds of the most recent blizzard, you notice a small cave half-hidden within the side of a large boulder. The snow outside begins to howl as you see a small Rikag milling about at the cave entrance. It shakes its head absently as it paces in a small circle. Another figure emerges from the cave, the minimal amount of daylight gleaming through the storm allowing you a quick glimpse of his features.
You can barely make it out but you can see the dark blue pelt that the creature bares. His body is decorated with white tribal designs and icy bone protrustions aligning his backbone. Atop his large cranium are two wickedly curved horns, their exterior glistening in the available light as it turns its head toward the small Rikag at its feet. Blue and white armwarmers cover his front legs as bandages are seen wrapped around his hind legs.
The figure, now recognizable as a type of Telenine, looks toward the Rikag and sighs heavily. "You're going outside with me today before the storm hits." It says, its voice barely carrying through the wind and sleet. "I don't care how much you moan and groan this time." You watch as the telenine turns around to rummage through the cavern before returning with a white pom-pom hat. As it places the accessory on its head, it turns and your eyes meet through the raging snow. The Telenine pauses momentarily, while the Rikag at its side makes a noise of fear and slinks behind the larger creature.
The Telenine's ice blue eyes widen a bit as it stares at you, appearing to size you up. "Why, uh, hello there." It says, its voice indicating it to be male. "I'm Memoir, but I prefer to be called Rio. This here is Blizz." He states, gesturing to the Rikag hiding behind his hind leg. "I'm sorry about the rude welcome, but we don't get company very often. Why don't you come on in?"
You nod, thankful for the chance to get out of the storm. Hurrying toward the entrance to the cavern, you quickly note a lantern inside. Its soft light illuminates what appears to be a small home inside the rocks, and you can only assume that Memoir and Blizz live within the small cave.
"To tell you the truth," Memoir continues, following you into the cave, "you're the first visitor we've had since we settled here."
Gratefully accepting an offered seat, you rub your arms hastily while looking toward the Telenine. "I'm a little curious," you start, your breath visible in the cold air, "why do you two live all the way out here, anyway? I can't even tell where we are because of all the snow."
Memoir chuckles lightly as he, too, takes an available seat. "We decided to make our home in the mountains since Rikag and I don't do well in warmer climates. Life here isn't as hard as you might think, actually. We're very close to the SAI headquarters, and they're always willing to barter with us for food and other supplies."
You nod absently, wiping the frost from beneath your nose. It would make sense that people living in the mountains would need to have a supplier nearby, and it couldn't get much better than having a trading contract with SAI.
The small Rikag, Blizz, makes his presence known near the entrance of the cavern. He hisses and growls at Memoir as he nervously steps further into the house, stearing clear of your chair. You smile at him kindly, hoping to alleviate his fears. It backfires, though, and Blizz backs away once more.
"Well," Memoir says awkwardly, watching the show before him, "I guess Blizz wants us to get a move on. Shocking, really, since he was whining earlier about going out in this storm. I guess you were just what we needed to get him motivated for the trip to SAI." He smiled warmly towards you.
You laugh shyly, a little self-concious even though your host is trying his best to keep the atmosphere cordial. "Yeah, I suppose so." You answer, wiggling in your seat as you watch Memoir stand up and walk over to a small bag set on a low table. The creature lifts the bag in his teeth, the contents shifting noisily inside.
As Memoir steps purposefully toward the cave entrance, he stops to look back at you curiously. Tilting his head as if in thought, the Telenine drops the bag and hesitates before saying, "You know, if you want, you can come with us to SAI." Blizz screeches hautily behind him, but Memoir ignores his protests and instead waits for your answer.
Milling it over for a moment, you realize quickly that this is probably the best way for you to reach civilization before nightfall. It's also the fastest way to get out of your wet clothes and into a warm bed.
Smiling, you stand from your chair and make your way over to the pair, Blizz hissing as you reach them. "That sounds great." You say, waving kindly at Blizz. "Hey now, if I go with you, it'll get me out of your hair faster, right?" The Rikag offers you a wry look before it disappears behind Memoir's hindlegs once more.
"Okay then." Memoir murmurs, picking up the supply bag, "Let's get moving."
