In the beginning, when there was no existence as we know it, there were two. Equal in all ways. Opposite in all ways.
Yet each contained one piece of the other.
These missing pieces sparked much complaint with the one. He hated his kin having his missing segment, and demanded it be returned. The other had no qualms with their current arrangement. It was how they had always been, and how he wished it to always be. The two would bicker and squabble over what to do, and over time, it turned to a full blown fight.
While the more peaceful of the two hated the idea of fighting, he had little choice when his kin stepped forward with such force. It was of little use though. They were still opposite, yet equal. The fight waged on and on till both were nearly drained. Finally, the two decided that one last blow would settle the feud. They would each put the last of their energy into one final attack. The one who survived would be victor.
In a flash, the two collided, expending their last bits of energy. Again, they were evenly matched, and it would have seemed all the fighting to have been in vain. But this was not the case. For the force of these two opposite energies did not destroy as intended. Instead, they created.
This colossal crash, as some of your 'scientists' call the 'Big Bang', is what caused this universe to be created. The two kin who had agreed on nothing before had together fathered a universe. Together. And now they had to decide what to do with this new creation. Per the usual, their opinions differed. One sought to be passive and see what would come of what had already been created. The other sought to be more aggressive and to see how this new place could be manipulated and changed. This started new bickering, but both were still too weak to let the petty argument go far.
Finally, the two came to an agreement. They themselves would watch from afar to take note of all that they had created. However, each would be allowed to create beings to do as they willed. These beings would encompass those attributes that the two creators found most important and helpful to this budding new universe. So each made six descendants, and just as their creators, the twelve were paired opposites.
For quite some time, all was well. These twelve did as they were supposed to, acting as they felt their creators would. But soon, just like the kin, they began to bicker. The two groups grew to hate their opposites, and wanted nothing more than for their own group to prevail. Foolish as always, since all were needed in this world. No one side could overcome the other.
Having learned one lesson from their creators, they knew a true fight would do nothing. So, they decided to do as their creators did. Each of the twelve made their own descendants. The deeds of their descendants would shine positively on them... a contest of sorts. So each of the twelve made two, and soon a new tier consisting of twenty-four was born.
The new tier would grow the same animosity as its ancestors. And just as the ancestors had done, the new tier would create descendants of its own. So on and so on. It was not long before their was a hierarchy of these beings. So many that the true numbers are no longer known. And one can never really know where they are in the grand scheme of things, unless you are at the top.
If you have not realized by now, these beings are known as 'Gods'. I too, am one. I see over a small segment of space; seeing to it that celestial bodies stay the course of time and stay their proper places in space. I assume I am at the bottom of the hierarchy, as I have made no descendants, and know only of ancestors. But I have no wish to create others. What is so bad about being at the bottom?
