Zhiara was born on a morning when the sun and stars aligned, expectations of greatness following her from an early age. She was the pride of her flock and there was no surprise when she was chosen from among thousands to travel to the Sacred Lands as a temple apprentice. As a youngling, she excelled in many crafts, not only because she was gifted but because she was dedicated. Her skill grew through her hard work and desire not to disappoint her family. Her family had done everything for her, given her every opportunity, and even let her go so that she could pursue greatness.
Around the usual age, she began to have visions and speak prophecy. She was relieved, though not quite surprised. Not all apprentices show a true gift and Zhiara was content to be worthy. The gods had granted her sight to see the past, the present, and what would be. As the council often said, she was a vessel of the one Truth. The Priestess and all her apprentices were the only ones who could see with certainty all the pieces of forever and speak this truth to the many. But Zhiara wondered… is there more that could be?
She studied the old texts, books which no longer had names, and practiced her crafts. She often tried to conjure the same vision or prediction of the future or to see the world around her in different ways. She visited the same spots hoping to validate what she knew. If a vision of the Priestess did not come to pass exactly as described it was said to have been misunderstood. But, what if a single vision was only a single choice? What if the world was waiting to be defined?
Zhiara dared not speak such things aloud. She had always believed in destiny as it had been told to her. It was her destiny to be Priestess someday. She was chosen, born when the sun and stars aligned. And everything had come to pass exactly as had been said. Prophecy, tarot, runes, even the darker arts all came naturally to Zhiara and always showed a reflection of the one, same Truth.
As she grew older, the power inside of her grew. More than her gift, more than her skill. Her power. The warmth she had always felt inside of her – all around her. It grew within her and even more so with her focus. She started to sense things that the others at the temple could not sense. She started to know things before she even thought to try and know them.
One day, she sensed something, something more, during a vision. She saw it before it came, what was to be, and she did the unimaginable – she altered the prophecy. She shifted her glance to the other side, to see what otherwise she would not have seen. Before, she had only ever seen between forever and the end. This time, she saw the beginning. The next beginning. Her mind began to spin as she felt more power than she could ever have grown to know rush into her.
