When I was younger, my mother would foster cats and socialize them when they were feral. I was so happy we were going to be fostering another lucky fur baby that was in need of socializing with people. When we got out of the car, I had no idea what to expect. The woman behind the counter went and got her and brought her to me. I held her small, little body and snuggled her tight. "She's yours" my mother said, looking on at my affection. My eyes grew big, "you mean I get to keep her? She's actually mine?" The staff in the rescue were so touched by my naive excitement at the situation. They knew my mom and I very well, so to see one of their own actually come home with us was such a joy. "What are you going to name her?" the woman behind the counter asked. "Rosie. Rosie Bud." I replied as I squeezed her tighter to hear her gentle purrs. Who would have known that such a sweet cat would have grown up to become my best friend and when I left for college, my mom's #1 companion. There is no greater joy than to give a loving fur baby a wonderful home. That was the start of a beautiful friendship that would go on to last 19 years. Rosie passed away comfortably in my arms as I sang her to sleep. I will never forget that moment but most of all I will never forget all of the amazing times I had with her.
Rosie was the runt of her litter and looked nothing like her mother or her siblings. She had long, tortie-colored hair and distinct green eyes. She had notable patches of brown on her face by her whiskers and on her back paws. It almost made her look like she was wearing a pair of fuzzy socks. All of her whiskers were dark except for one on the right side of her face. When you looked at her up close it would look like she only had one whisker because of the silliness of the white whisker. Her tail was long and fluffy. I'm pretty sure she was part Siamese because of her vocal nature. When she was little, I would wear her around my neck and carry her around. I would also put her in shopping carts and push her around the house. She was so docile, she let me do nearly anything to her. I would paint her nails, dance with her and cry on her when I was upset. She wasn't just a companion, she really was a friend. She matured great with age and never had any severe health issues. The vet we would take her to was always amazed by her health. "She's going to outlive both of you" he would joke and laugh lightheartedly as he gave her a nuzzle and a kiss. Her favorite past times were sleeping on her very small cat bed (which she thought she was still small enough for) or on your lap and stealing your Liverwurst and Lactose-Free Ice Cream. She lived a long life of love and will surely be missed.
All pets go to Heaven. They are Saints in disguise.
