TW: violence, gore

A heavy mist hung in the air, suffocating fog that grabbed onto whatever it touched and held it down; even sound, even time. It was inscrutably quiet. It felt wrong. As if you were viewing Earth from space and watching it explode, complete silence. There should be screaming, a man lay on the bitter cold ground, watching as his bones were stripped of flesh. The murder of birds around you were still, suspended in the thick air. A cacophony of silence, just the ringing in your ears, rushing of blood, the stifled breath refusing to escape your lungs. The beaks of the innumerable birds were open but nothing came out, the mouth of the man. His eyes twinkled, trapped in anguished walls. Time stood still but continued only in the blood of the man, soaring through his body and collecting on the ground.

The light left the man's eyes. He was dead, the feathered creature kept going. It ripped flesh with its serrated, ebon beak, grasping the body with one set of velociraptor claws and grating it with the other. It tossed a sizeable chunk of the man's loin into the air, snapping down on it rewardingly. It enjoyed this, it was dinner time.

It often gets reported as stabbings. Mauling by dogs. Freak accidents. The victims are so deplorable that the deaths are never investigated. Never mourned. "Thank God that guy is off the streets."

They call me an angel.. how flattering. They cant look past their near death experience to see hallowed eyes, claws made for carnage, blades emerging from bone and piercing through flesh. They see a savior, as I rip the soul from body.
