Xeniua is all of these. As a protector, she is cut off from all those she would otherwise know as friends, companions, family. To be a Qinju is to be alone. Quinju is highly respected among the Hydrus race. They are the Guardians of their civilization, the protectors of their way of life. Land dwellers do not know of these people.
Millenia ago, all races knew of each other. Hydrus and land dwellers alike. But over much time, battles and understandings and alliances lost, the people were separated and cut off. And so the Hydrus became forgotten and left in the depths of the ocean. And it is their every desire to keep the knowledge of them from ever being discovered once more.
Though Hydrus know of all those above ground, the opposite is not true of them. They are unknown and therefore, any knowledge of them must be cut off and stopped.

So the Qinju are sent forth to keep the secret. To keep the oceans deep abyss of peculiar creatures unknown.
A Qinju does not lead a normal life. They volunteer for this burden and honor and are then no longer considered normal members of society as they are cut off from all else. This choice does not come lightly, for this burden is permanent. This will be their purpose for the rest of their life.

Having lost her family at a young age and so to give herself purpose, direction, Xeniua joined the Qinju and learned their ways, becoming the respected Guardian- one of the few- that would dedicate their life to protect their own.
All sacrifice is made.
No friends, no family, no companionship. Completely forsaken of any normality, they only guard, protect and keep their world secret by all means necessary.
A life of solidarity. Sacrificing everything for the sake of their people.
