Yumi lowered her swords to her side, exhausted by the long, grueling mission.
Sweat trickled down her forehead, tickling her, as she squinted and casually wiped it away. The sound of the summer bugs and scolding heat
surrounded her as she began to wonder off into her thoughts. Behind her, a deep, soft grunt snapped her quickly back to reality.

She turned and looked up at Khalisi, her beloved friend and pet dragon.
Khalisi's lambent pink wings spread slowly open as the amiable dragon regarded Yumi with her eyes and assured her that everything was all right.
Grateful for her friend, Yumi reached up and gently patted the dragon's scaly nose. With a soft breathe, Khalisi nudged Yumi gently, anxious to get out of the heat.

Yumi grinned and shook her head.
"All right girl, I'm coming. You know how hard it is for me after a day like this."
Yumi opened up the dragon's satchel to safely place her weapons inside.
"Besides, you know I wouldn't let you miss out on breakfast."

That was all it took for Khalisi to stand up on all four powerful legs and begin to whimper softly.
"Okay okay Khal, calm down, we will get moving. Now hold still while I get everything in here. You know the drill, I need to change out of this armor."
Khalisi grumbled and rolled her eyes as she spread her wings full span to give her master some privacy.
"Thank you Khal, you know you are the best." Yumi started to change into her casual wear, stuffing her armor into the dragon's enormous satchel.
Khalisi's chest puffed up in approval. She always loved hearing her master compliment her.
Yumi came out from behind Khalisi's wings.
"Now then, breakfast, what should it be today Khal? Aardvark?"
Khalisi let out a low growl and scrunched her nose.
"Okay...no Aardvark then, zebra?"
The dragon sat down on her hind legs and snuffed down at Yumi.
"Oh come on Khal, really? You love zebra. Okay fine, what then?"
Khalisi stood up and whimpered. She lowered her head, and gently rested it at Yumi's chest. She began to softly purr.
"Khal, no. You know I can't go there. It has been to long since we, since he and I , well you know I just can't go.
I don't care how much you like the fruit on that beach .I will not go."
Khalisi whined on her master's chest, regretting bringing up the painful memory.
She let Yumi hold onto her muzzle and started to feel the warm, salty fluid fall onto her nose.
