I didn't see my life flash before my eyes when I died. Instead, I saw my greatest hits, the moments worth remembering.

I found myself in the night where I first fell in love, something I expected to see as it had also been the best day of my life. I was surprised by the realness of the scene, because even though I had replayed that night a hundred times in my head, it never looked more beautiful and complete. I was enveloped in the warmth of her chest and the bonfire we were sitting around, and I heard every word she said as if it were the first time. But it was only for a moment, because I began to fade away from her and I could no longer feel the heat of the fire or hear what she was whispering to me in the shallow light.

Another scene materialized. I looked at myself and I was in my black studded homecoming dress, my sophomore year. I was confused as to why I ended up there, as it wasn't exactly the most fun night of my life. I didn't have a date and I spent that entire night sulking and feeling awkward around who I had wanted to go with.
When I turned around, she was there, and from my memory I recalled..
Ah, that must be it. Why I was there. I had always thought of it as just a passing comment, but if I was here..
She looked at me and told me I was beautiful and even being there after knowing it was going to happen, it took my breath away. I had never thought of it as one of my highlights, but before I could respond, I was swept away again.

I knew immediately what the next moment was when I felt the sticky air of summer on my skin. Sure enough, my friends surrounded me as we walked around, trying to find a place to eat after seeing a movie in town.
I had stopped and was looking at them all with a loving warmth. I turned to my best friend and blissfully said, "You know, I think this is the happiest I've ever been."She smiled at me and so did all of them and the scene faded as we walked on.

It was winter, January 1st, I immediately knew. I sat in my best friend's house surrounded by my friends again. Except, I thought that I had already seen them. I wondered why I was there, but I suddenly fast-forwarded to the early morning when we all drifted off. I looked at myself embracing her as we fell asleep. It was something I always wondered about that night, and even now, I thought..
Was this the first time someone fell in love with me?
I expected myself to be pulled away, as we all seemed to be fast asleep, but I remained looking at the scene.
Is something going to happen? I wondered.
And then she stirred. I think she had been up that whole time. And she looked at me, wrapped up in her, and she gave me the softest smile and laid back down.

I sat on her lap as we watched the last of the fireworks show on my last July 4th. She wrapped her arms around me and we spent an hour trying to take photos of the fireworks, with little success. She told me she loved me, and the full scenes stopped.
