Evil personified, Shingles gains sustenance from destroying the lives of everybody around him. Maybe, somewhere, very deep down in his dark core there is a single particle of a reasonable human being just waiting to be uncovered, but we will never know because this man is completely consumed by being a delusional monster. Just don't bother.

Shingles was born solely to be abused, an outlet for his troubled mother to take out her pent up anger on. This was easy for her to do, since Shingles' father left when he was five. He was exposed to drugs and manipulation no person should ever have to experience; anything she did to him was under the guise of "love". Eventually, Shingles believed it. He grew dependent on it.
When Shingles was ten, he was freed from his situation when his mother left him with his uncle. It was hardly any better; he was ignored almost entirely and shortly after caused his uncle's prison sentence via all the animals he tortured in frustration. Being a child, Shingles was believed by authorities when he pinned the blame. He was then sent to live with his grandma.
From here his life was a steady, constant misery. An old friend hooked him back up with drugs and he made as many connections as he could. Shingles--already being somebody you'd be foolish not to despise--treats everybody the way he was treated growing up. And his venomous charisma lets him get away with it.
