I come firstly with just Dorian idea, but something missed to undestand it was him.
So the "picture" idea snaped, and the mix of the drak background come to paint the truth behind his soul c:
This may represent the part where, when trying to destroy the picture, Dorian, in fact, killed himself and his essence.
