Wow, that's nice. This overlay with pets and minions is just adorable. They are fantastic.

@JUNGLE So, your logic is that, if you can't fix it, you don't feel guilty about it? That's not the point of guilt. Most people feel guilty when they do something wrong just because they feel bad that they've done something wrong, whether they can fix it or not. Duh. It's wrong to shit on the owner of the pet who won the pet spotlight in the comments below the post announcing their win. Simple as that. Yes, everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but there are times when you should voice it and times when you shouldn't. Most people understand that this is not the time to voice it, unless it's congratulatory. It's a very simple concept.

Excuse my lack of knowledge, but if negative comments or just any small bit of saying something "bad" (assumed or not) is not allowed, then why is there a comment option here? o3o

Valid points, Darling and FAKE, but still, it does not justify that at the moment, you can make such comments... And as for Darling, as for stating your opinion, whether it hurts others or not, is part of human nature. Common sense is subjective. A human does not always act logically or has their brain 'on' so to say, every second of the day. This is evident in my judgment, and again, admitting my mistake, which, by the way, I am tired of typing over and over again. :P If anyone has followed this entire thing, I have apologized for my rash decision PROFUSELY. Anyway, back to it. Usually I don't comment just because, I don't know, I just don't. But today this one caught my eye and completely confused me. I thought that a pet had to have a TC or story, or both. I realize now that that is not the case, so yes. I am done saying this to everyone, seriously. You know, I can't believe anyone could say that there is no work put into this pet. As someone who pixels, I know how long a decent pixel can take to do. That whole profile probably took hours, possibly days of spread out work in careful, piece by piece, mind blowingly irritating work to create something amazing. This pet has a very obvious story if you just look. The viewer shouldn't need to be guided with words, because the viewer is guided with imagery. Every inch of the profile and overlay gives you hints as to who this character is! AMAZING job. This pet deserves the win beyond belief! This to me is amazing creativity and I know the hard work that went into this. It is not an every day skill.

Feeling guilty is quite a waste of time considering that whatever you feel guilty about is probably something that can't be taken back anyway. Backpedaling is my favourite part of every time I call people out for being douches in PS comments (along with people telling me that I'm mean and terrible when I'm not the one who ever comments negatively on wins.) I am most amused that my statement was a blanket statement but JUNGLE immediately pigeonholed herself into thinking it was specifically aimed at her. Feeling guilty?
I think it's lovely though that so many people do appreciate this profile! It's not that you can't disagree or dislike aspects (or lack thereof) of a pet spotlight winner but it is extremely tactless to write them on a winning post.

I actually love that there is no TC or story, then again I don't really pay much mind to them when a pet wins Pet Spotlight. I go for how well the layout looks and it's overlay. So I'm all for this pet and its well deserved win. Congrats!!

I agree with everyone who says this profile doesn't really even NEED a story. I like the lack of a story- it leaves me wondering and wanting to know more about this character. The artwork is beautiful and I can't even imagine how much time and work it took to make such an amazing profile. I've never seen another profile like this anywhere on Subeta so I can whole-heartedly say that I'm SO glad this pet won. It's a really well-deserved win and a million times more interesting than most pets. Sure, it doesn't have a story or treasure chest, but it's unique and un-expected.

Maybe this is because I have a massive boner for pixel art (and I can't actually make pixel art to save the life of me so I really respect the people who can pull it off), but I fully support this pet winning the spotlight. I personally don't give a fuck about the lack of story or treasure chest, the pure amount of effort that's gone into the layout is enough for me. If I were to make something like this, the effort that's put into the art/overlay would far outweigh how much effort I'd put into a story/treasure chest, so I really don't understand why people are complaining about the lack of effort. I am also drunk.

And I figured what I meant by "no work". It was a gut reaction when I first saw this pet. I was shocked at the lack of a TC or story. I was incredibly confused... I have never seen a pet that was not a TC or story pet, or both, so I thought you had to have one or the other or both. I know I was wrong, but I must admit, no one would think this if more pets like this one didn't break the standards, and I know I was not the only one who was confused.
@Slavic - Yeah, it was a silly mistake to say it that why now, and I see that. xD I really do love this pet now. It certainly makes me rethink everything I ever thought about the Pet Spotlight. :)

Try spending 10, 20 hours agonising over your own hand drawn pet art and layouts - drawing, painting, working with colour and light to achieve the kind of 'mood' this profile does. Try spending even more time fiddling with code to get the elements on the page looking just right, the same way they look in your imagination. If you achieve this, only then do you have the right to call this profile lazy. Because it it is not lazy. It's a work of art. It does not need any more then what is already there. A story, a treasure chest, they would simply add needless clutter to an already complete canvas.

I happen to enjoy writing stories for my pets in addition to creating their art and code but I don't expect everyone to do the same, nor does every pet even need a story. This profile tells a story without words. Some people excel at story writing and have that as the main focus of their pet, commissioning art and layouts from others. This is also fine. Play to your strengths. Just because a page focusses on one element does not make it any worse then the profiles I've seen that clutter 10 different elements into one crowded page, achieving nothing but mediocrity in all of them.

Not everyone goes the "easy way" and buys them, I know a few of my own pets have an overlay or profile, or even both made by myself. I plan to do this with many more. So don't go assuming no work was put into this just because someone didn't arrange a few icons and write some cheap ass story.
This pet is beautiful, I think a TC would ruin the bookshelf layout and plus as mentioned those are just GUIDELINES. A picture can say 1000 words, use your imaginations maybe.

the Spotlight criterias should be changed, seriously. Of course this pet is beautiful and nobody should say it doesn't deserve the Spotlight,
but considering the Spotlight criterias, it shouldn't even be allowed in the winning queue, no matter how pretty it is.
How about changing the criterias a bit? We had several pets already with a missing story/TC and every time people ask for these or state the pet wouldn't be worth a Spotlight Win, since there's "no effort" put into these, which is in most case never true.
But the criterias made up by the staff alone are already enough to block people from "thinkin outside the box". Most are always worried about fitting TCs and awesome stories
and in the end they probably ruined a part of theit pet, just because they feel forced to meet these four criterias. How about adding one or two sentences to these criterias, like "the pet doesn't have to meet all criterias, as long as it's outstanding in the other criterias it would meet" or something like that?

I wish more of these would win so that people can actually get it into their heads that their pets do not necessarily have to fit into certain guidelines. I thought that was the appeal of pets on Subeta! You have more freedom to do what you want with your pets, or freedom to not do what other people want you to do. Think outside of the box, people!

Who ever said that a story had to be put into words? :| I get a lot of feeling and ideas from the art on this profile, and I'm actually excited to not know the pet's entire life story/his favorite color/what he had for breakfast/who he's sleeping with; I feel that this sort of profile gives the reader/viewer more freedom to decide and try to figure out the tale behind Germain. That's why it fascinates me so much, and this is one of my all-time favorite winners.

If you prefer story over art, that's fine, I'm sure a lot of people agree with you but why not go make a board and debate about it there, rather than leaving comments here implying (or outright stating in some cases) that no effort was put into this because it's based on art rather than writing? It was drawn and coded by Tombie herself, who no doubt put a lot of thought and effort into this (If you were an artist / profile maker you would understand how long that actually takes), and to say that she put "no work" into it at all is just plain rude. Have some manners, my goodness.

This is an absolutely beautiful pet. For people who seem to be completely unaware of how gorgeous this profile is and how much it deserved to win, let me point out a few things for you: the profile is absolutely beautiful. The way it is set out obviously had a lot of forethought into it because it's like an interactive scene. I want you to look at all the pieces of artwork that actually make up the profile; the pattern of the background that make up a seamless bookshelf and make it look as if it is a room. The detail in the overlay, the slight animations (the bat that glows, the tail twitch) that make it seem as if it's alive. It's also clever coding that when you hover over the overlay, the stats are shown.
This pet doesn't NEED a treasure chest or a story; honestly what do you think a row or two of 64 x 64 items are actually going to contribute to this pet? Or a few lines of text?

Hmm... guess it's just me but I don't think this warranted a win. It's so easy to get a profile and an overlay... Sorry, just the way I see it. Don't get me wrong, the profile and overlay are fantastic, but, where's the work? There's no story, and I know there doesn't always have to be, and there's no TC. There's nothing. There's no work. No work. :S I'm probably gonna get a lot of crap for this comment, but whatever. It's just the way I see it. :P

This is awesome! The overlay for the pet is incredibly detail, and the lack of a written story/character details is more than made up for with the kind of expressions one can see with trained eyes (that I lack) on the overlay and animation.

Also to all those people asking, what you see is what you get. After looking at the source there is no treasure and no extra content to be seen.
