sMail Phishing

Please be careful if you receive any out of the ordinary sMails tonight (or ever, really). Someone is going around sending sMails with a phishing link in it posing as a giveaway forum topic (though I would not be surprised if they changed it up some after seeing this news post!). We are taking all the measures we can to keep this from happening and to remove the sMails before you even see them, but be cautious!

If you do click on any links that lead you to a page asking you to input your username and password, your first step should always be to check the URL in your address bar to make sure it is really Subeta! If it is not, do not enter any of your information!

If you think you may have been a victim of this phishing attack, please change your password as soon as possible, and think about setting up a PIN to protect your account!

I'm super grateful for the Subeta Staff about this. I have invested too much time into this account to let it go astray. Also, I buy a LOT of stuff with my actual money so I don't want that information taken.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing this with everyone!
I saw two notifications, one from nightsong4 and one from lilroboannie. The mails have already been deleted from my inbox though, and I am very glad about that.
My last computer completely crashed and died because of a virus, so nowadays I'm always being extra careful when it comes to clicking links and downloading things, especially if I don't completely trust them.

Oh crap that scared me, thank you so much guys for noticing us about that, you're awesome :). On my dashboard, it says I've received a smail from nightsong4, but, when I checked my inbox, there wasn't new messages there. Anyway I'll proctect myself, thanks again :)

A similar attempt happened recently at another pet site I go to and the site owner there protected all of us.
Thank you for protecting us ^_^. It means a lot to know all us members can stay here safely :).

I have an alert saying; You have a new message in your inbox from nightsong4! - but when I look in my sMail there isn't an sMail there by nghtsong4.

As for running scans, I use multiples Malwarebytes is good, so is Super Anti spyware even though it sounds dodgy. Avast is a great anti virus - it's free and it does a boot scan so will look for viruses before the OS is up and running. Those are just my personal anti-virus (free! on top of all it's laudable features), and only 2 of the stand alone malware programmes I use.
Besides you should run a virus/malware scan once a week and a full, deep scan 1- 3 months.
Oh and a firewall - comodo is good as you can open suspect items in sndboxmode hell you can surf the internet wholly in sandbox mode if you wanted to.
I got done by a virus - nasty little sod it was too - cost me a lot to have it removed. I really was clueless at the time.

And this is why I NEVER click links unless I check first to see if they are legit. Doesn't matter if they are normal email, PMs on FB, sMail here. If you send me a legit link even, I won't click it. 20-odd years on the 'net have taught me all too well to be overly cautious. And I live by the rule "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is".

I got one, and support was awesomesauce about quickly dealing with it. *gives staff a cookie*

@Wiccan
I don't think Subeta and really do anything about the malware that's already infiltrated one's computer. Personally after being a ditz enough to click it, I'm running my antivirus program which is usually pretty good at spotting malware.

SlayerWolf

which is why i never click links unless i know they are good & love my antispyware stuff Thanks for heads up

iconoclasm

@Extremis

already doing so.

Pin feature can be accessed through the user dashboard (formerly preferences). But if it's trojans and phishing, you should scan your computer with a trusted and secure antivirus program (google for reviews for one if youre not sure) and then change your password/pin

Nico

Thankyou for the warning! but what about the malware?
Changing your password wont work unless you remove that first.

I happened to check the link before clicking it /which I didn't/ but for the others who did?

Sopheroo

Nevermind, it already exists.

Can the information be added to the newspost?

Sopheroo

Staff, in the future, would it be possible to make it an option to only allow friends to send you sMails?

I feel like this could be another good line of defense against such mails

gemajgall

Thanks for letting us know.

stars_water

Yeah, I already got the phishing e-mail. Sadly I completely feel for it since I've never had trouble with that kind of thing before. Thank you guys for sending me the warning in my notifications and erasing the mail, though. I still think it would be troublesome to use the pin, but I suppose it's a good idea to play it safe for a bit.

@iconoclasm It might be a good idea to run a virus scan as well.

Thank you so much for the warning!!! I didn't get any, but I have ALWAYS been cautious on every site I go on. Just to be safe, I set my preference so only friends can message me X3. I'll keep it that way until this mess gets cleared up! I hope those who have been victims of this will be okay D;!

Thanks for the heads up. I didn't get a smail (sorry to the ones who did), but I've never been happier that I don't click on anything unless it's something I'm expecting or from a friend.

No mail for me so far, but *ugh* this is lame. Thanks so much for the warning!

amethyst227

Thank you for getting the word out!
0

Tribunal

The links contain MALWARE. If it has keylogging or cookie-grabbing capability, just changing your password is NOT ENOUGH. They can simply grab the new one. Users must remove the Malware if they clicked the link. It is REALLY REALLY irresponsible of the site to not share this information.

If the malware is malicious enough, it could compromise users IRL via online banking, email, etc.
