GELATIN WAR IS OVER!

You did it, battlers! Together, you chipped away at Hydragellos so fiercely and relentlessly that it's decided to go back to whatever hellscape it hails from rather than deal with you anymore! With it have gone all of the smaller gelatins, including the new Gelatin Stompers (which, I discovered a little too late, have VERY sticky fingers -- I'm pretty sure they made off with half my stock).

As promised, I have personally retrieved a Hydragellos Maniacal Core for each and every battler who achieved at least 5 million damage against Hydragellos this past week -- no easy feat, as there were a lot of you! I've also collected some other rewards I think you'll enjoy. I'm in the process of double-checking my list now, and I'll get those prizes out to you within the next couple of days. Thank you again for helping keep Subeta safe!

It was posted in a thread about the battling UI changes rather than posted in the news so that it wouldn't immediately blow up. I got the link from the feedback thread.

If anyone was away for the battling, or preoccupied by questing and didn't manage to get
Gelatin Golem Beanbag

Gelatin Golem Beanbag, let me know and I'll send one to you for free (I have four of them left). You can also ask for a friend or whatever, although I do ask that you not grab one just to resell. Can't enforce it, of course, but I can ask!

I liked this new way to battle. It let us battlers get some proper rest and food and still get a nice reward, and not be 24 hours sitting in front of our computers battling non stop. Buuut I have to admit I kinda missed the expectation of guessing who did the last hit. May be we can find a way to combine those 2 aspects next time? Like, having Hydragellos stay for a week AND in the last day having his HP decrease like before? :)
2

StarShadow

Oh well, I was too busy questing to battle so only fought the big guy a couple times, not expecting any prizes. Maybe next time they can do this as a stand alone instead of at the same time as another time consuming event. Then I will do more. :) Looking forward to the next holidays.

Mackenzi

Yeoman has done a total of 11,360 damage to Hydragellos!
Kinesis has done a total of 517 damage to Hydragellos!
Septicæmia has done a total of 69 damage to Hydragellos!

With the time & no quest a thon I would have aimed for maybe 50k for Yeoman and at least 1k for my two baby battlers... well, I def left Sep's on that number on purpose this year, but next time I'll take it more seriously :P
2

Mackenzi

Woof... next year I'll do better... I definitely leaned more towards questing this time and I think I'm going to regret it once I see the prizes, I could have done another couple hours grinding against the big dude.

I have to say I really appreciate the way this boss battle was handled, I really liked knowing what the target goal was from thr beginning and knowing how long I had to get to it. ESPECIALLY with the new way battles are handled and that amaazinggg damage counter (can we all just say, above nothing else, Bug is a blessing to us all?!?).

I hope this kinda boss battle is used in the future, even if the target goals ends up being higher (or not, that's okay too |D). If it wasn't for a vacation & Harvey I definitely would have taken the opportunity to battle with more than one pet under this boss design! Maybe next time.

Squirrelish has done a total of 5,014,576 damage to Hydragellos!
Just made it last night, but so worth the effort (or was it? I'm not really sure yet xD It was a LOT of time sat at the PC)!

Thanks Bug for the change to the fight, the damage counter, and for the awesome improvements to the battle UI recently.
5

Hunger

Congrats everyone who managed the 5mil!
I couldn't spend that much time battling, I knew I would never reach that lofty goal, so ended up not trying very hard (I think I did a bit over 300k)
Anyway, it was a nice change and opportunity :)
0

Dreamcrystal

I didn't put my all into this so I'll understand why I won't get anything or at least anything good XD (still waiting for the quest-a-thon stuff lol)
I tried fighting one of the stronger guys and was taken out in one hit xD I basically said "Nope!"

Paddy

Whoo!! And huge thanks to staff for changing the boss battle style this year (and mega thanks to Bug for the damage counter!) :D

Yes I did battle a lot in the boss battles before, but I never seemed to have enough time online on that day to actually do enough damage (did a lot of battling in the morning before, went offline to get some RL stuff done, came back and realised the boss was defeated in that couple of hours I was off the computer :P). So, the "get 5 mill damage" goal was perfect for a week :D I needed just over a thousand battles, and it was really nice to be able to pace myself with those (especially with the quet-a-thon taking place too), instead of feeling I had a day or two at the most to get it all done.

Over kill much? Corvi has done a total of 8,853,573 damage to Hydragellos! :D

METROID

This was my favorite war/boss fight in probably a while. It felt more fair and having the boss arrive first was a smarter idea. It makes better sense lore-wise too (the other gelatins probably divide from Hydra's main body, then divide further from there). Giving us the damage tracker also helped greatly, I really do appreciate that.
I'm hoping if enough cores go out, there won't be a need for a Gelatin War til 2019, but we shall see!
7

bapkate

Yay I really liked this war! The improved UI made battling much more enjoyable (and quicker!). I also preferred having a set amount of damage to work toward: it was much less stressful. Looking forward to getting my mits on a Core ^_^
5

probabilistic

Thanks so much for the battle interface improvements. Finished my achievements and cracked 5m for the Hydragellos -- probably would not have had the will to grind as much under the old system with more clicks.
3

Jai

I really liked the set up for this challenger. Thanks for changing things up. I hope there will be more challengers that have damage goals for prizes in the future. :)
2

Keliora

I think Bear Head Bomb is better than Nachos Secret Stuff? But everyone has their own favourites.

The format on this one was pretty good, I think. I can see it being incredibly motivating for anyone with a good battle pet that isn't in the top 100 or has that small time frame available. Definitely more inclusive and welcoming as a community event, even without the competition aspect. It was just really nice to have set goalposts instead of the constantly moving ones of battling before.

More curious than ever to see how many Cores will be handed out though!

BoaConstrictor

@Quest
I wonder how you can do a battle in 30 secs. I already need at least 30 secs to get into a battle and then again to get back to the choose your set page. Not counting the odd delay happening during moves every now and then. I go for like 20 rounds on average per battle. Plus, you also need to heal inbetween. Granted, I am not fast myself and I cannot play with rushing it too much.
0

Thomas

@Quest
Yeah that makes sense, thanks for the write-up. :) I have a spare slot in my current boss battle line-up that's taken by the Phoenix Quill but it's filler, ultimately. I understand where you're coming from regarding efficiency as healing and prepping for the next fight are big time sinks, comparatively, so prolonging the current fight while dealing as much damage per turn is important.
0

Quest

@Thomas
There are multiple factors why:
1. It's a once per battle and banish. This are amazing for preselect fast battles because you will automatically switch into your main weapons.
2. It contains a nice damage above a regular weapon.
3. This is the most important, contains an ability which only lets your opponent choose 1 weapon for the next attack.
Practically, you start with a 100% freeze item + damage over time (Captured Eternal Flame). I recommend using a cheap once per battle defensive spell so you don't get KO on first round.
Now your opponent is frozen while you have your freeze scrolls ready. Freeze scrolls aren't 100% freeze (until strong stomper which seems to be) that means while you mass click you want to be the safest possible while dealing max damage possible using preselect weapons.
If you use a 100% icon defense items during that time of freeze just so you dont KO by missing a freeze, you will waste a turn and a weapon slot. If you use a heavy hitter like Ballista, you risk on getting KO.
With that item you can lower the chance of getting KO by a missing freeze and ultimate/crit by a 50%. Not only that but you are able to carry multiple of those to battle. You just got to rearrange everything so you end up with defensive healing weapons/scrolls at the end of your freeze.
Hopefully it makes sense. It's not overpower by ability or damage. It's the way it works with the preselect(spam) battling. Since you don't want to waste 3 seconds to select your equipments for that round. Those 3 seconds are damage you could be dealing.
This won't work on battles in which you have to cover icons to survive. Still, consider it as a 50% damage reduction for next turn while dealing above average damage. However, on those mass 1 hit damage bosses is consider a 50% to survive + 50% damage reduction + good damage.
2

BoaConstrictor

Oh, and a HUUUUGE thank you to Bug for the counter!!!
2

BoaConstrictor

Thank you for the war! That was a MUCH better setup than aimlessly battling against each other, which of course also holds some fun, if you have too much time on hand :-). I bought a Core and an Essence long ago anyway, but still went for the main prize. I was glad, you kept releasing new waves of all the challengers, but of course, like always, waaayyyy too few Minis. I wonder, if I'll see this Slayer ever in my life ;-) Maybe without the Questathon I could have gotten hold of more of them, but the double chore plus an extra pita top challenger kept me spending a lot of overtime here, anyway.

If I hadn't read the comments (yesterday only, though) I wouldn't have detected, that it wasn't cumulative among pets, but that basically each pet could have gone to the 5 mio, thus reassuring multiple prizes (bare the Core). From how the newspost sounded we should have accountwise aimed for 5 mio damage. Maybe make that clearer next time, please. I just hope, there won't be any books, which will make me regret that misunderstanding even more.
3

Thomas

@Quest
What makes the Nachos Secret Stuff stand out? Your comment made me curious haha, I can't see why it stands out against other bombs in these situations; average of 55 icons is decent but not far from god weapons, either.

I'm happy we had so much time. I'm home with mental health problems and I couldn't stay focussed for long so I battled until the last day to make it :) Losses: 463

I, for one, enjoyed having the boss battle set up this way. Not everyone has a ton of time in order to battle, especially in only one or two sittings. It was great being able to split up my time over several days to reach a specified amount, instead of battling all day and night for the chance at something I may not even get (I'm looking at you 2012 Lumi plot, where I battled a TON over the holidays to just barely missed top tier!!!!). Also since the quest-a-thon was right on top of this, this format definitely helped imo.
7

Julie

@Quest
Dont know how to reply. I hope the next battle event is to your liking. ^_^
0

Sketch

For a second I thought the prizes were already given, don't scare me like that Subeta.

In the end, for me, the true MVPs were those that battled an insane amount of times, regardless of the total damage, I would never have the will. Congratulations to all fighters
1

JuliaJ

Really enjoyed this even though I realised that I needed to up my game re battling etc, good incentive to keep improving my battle pet - wish I had known about the battle forum chat I could have done with that :/ ... Hope more events like this pop up its fun
0

Quest

@Julie
I mean you either battle or go to the forums (which I tend to stalk). I dont play much anymore since now I'm playing a different game.
Before you could feel a countdown. You play nonstop and destroy your mouse with clicks trying to reach those top ranks.
I try to play it old school and only attack the boss the last 48 hours (mostly because of work)
However, it's not the same when it shows the boss have 880M HP but when you enter you find out it was infinite/infinite.
Not only that but they practically gave out the core. 5M damage it's not a lot! In 48 hours while sleeping, taking breaks and sleeping.
I was able to rank about 2300 loses which each took about 30 second. Which is like about 19 hours nonstop.
From those 19 hours I made 197,384,118 damage. Lets say 10M damage per hour or a t13 pet can complete in 30minutes!
Sure, I prepare a bit and set up the best strategy for DPS. Which most people just don't do. (TIP: Nachos Secret Stuff is OP for this type of battles)
People had a week. Even if you had a pet that did 1k damage per battle. Thats 5k battles x 30 seconds = 41.6 hours dive that by 7 is about 6 hours per day.
That's only from a 1k PER battle (not attacks just battles).
Well, I went toooooo far from my point. In short, this was more like Morostide type of battle event. Which are coming very soon :/
Don't get me wrong, I love battle events but I just like the competition, which there was none.

Julie

@Quest
If they do this the next time, in this format, you should come hang out in the battle forum. We as a group talked, commiserated, strategized, lent weapons, cheered each other on, vented when the stomper took all our weapons. Every. Single. Weapon. Anyone who is interested in learning how to battle and weapons are all welcome to stay and get to know a group of like minded members.

That said. Great job everyone. Was a ton of fun.
5

LizBlackDog

congrats new core owners!

i hardly bothered with hydragellos this year and mostly concentrated on finally racking up enough mini jellies for a Slayer - without the battle UI updates and my new iphone I'd have probably taken another three years or so to get that.
0

BoneCollector

i liked this years format much more than the previous years !!! where all and one just slammed around to get that last and killing blast !!!!

now everyone that had enought time and "pet"-power could win/earn a core

it was good to see that battlers where helping and advicing the ones that are not so good in tactics - weapon choice and so on .................

i was not able to earn one myself this year but i do hope all next boss battles will be this way its as intensive as the other format but at the same time much more fun this way !!!! thanks subeta for this new system !!!!
6

KimC

@Erelyna Official calculator? WHERE? I saw no sign of one.
2

Erelyna

Journeyman has done a total of 5,021,309 damage to Hydragellos!

Would've done more if I had had to calculate it myself, since I'm sure I'd be off. Sooo thankful for the official calculator. :D
1

Morse

I for one think that this method of fighting was actually more collaborative than the traditional boss battle where people used to grind battles like crazy for hours on end without talking to anyone or doing anything else. Now there were a lot of advice given, annoyances shared and weapons lended on the battle forums, which made this event feel much more like a joint effort.

Great work, everyone! ^^
6

EagleWing

Five millions??? I did like 80,000. Oh my gosh.
0

archfey

GGs everybody! between this and the quest-a-thon, i was pretty busy and couldn't even come close to 5 mil... that said, i really REALLY hope that next year the hydragellos will be executed the same way it was this year: violently and with loads of fire... seriously though i like 'do this much damage, get coveted reward' thing because this is the first time i've had even a chance at the core, and i really appreciate just the opportunity even though i couldn't make it in the end.

I did 5mil+ damage all on my iPhone.
My fingers and hands hurt so bad but dang I did so good.
5

crashingnightingales

Prouf to say that for he first time I actually realized my goal of doing enough damage to earn a core. It never would've happened if not for the unconventional manner in which the gelatin war was conducted, but I'm thankful for the chance! I really look forward to seeing all the prizes this year!
2

Kamil

197 fights later: Maigrey has done a total of 6,871,001 damage to Hydragellos!

Between that and, god, waaay too many fights against the minis (so I could finally get that damn GS), and getting to 10 with that horrid new IMP jelly my fingers are about to fall off.

Had so much fun. =D Congrats to everyone who made it to 5000k!
