Secret Santa
Throughout the month of December, you can head over to the Secret Santa event, and be given a random parnter to send items to!
It lasts for a day, and you can join again the next day!
And, please remember, do not post what you received or sent in the Shoutbox. It's supposed to be a secret. ;)

I understand where you are coming from but I think the point some of us are trying to make is this: How do you know they signed up "with no intention of returning the gesture"?<br />

Now if everyday you were signed up with the same person, but still had to opt in to participate for the day, and after a couple days nothing in return okay it is pretty obvious they are taking advantage of things. Everyday though they match you up with a person signing up right around the same time you did, chances are it is a diffrent person. Now how can a person sit and say well they have no intentions of returning the gesture when fact of the matter is this person is completely unknown to you, you can not possibly no their intentions. For all anyone know the person signed up and lost power. There have been storms all over the northern US lately often with highwinds knocking out power places. How does any one know that their secret santa is just taking advantage and not a victim of circumstance?<br />

Since it is all about the giving shouldn't that mean that everyone who signed up should be giving? In my opinion the ones that signed up with no intention of returning the gesture are the greedy ones not the other way around. Just a thought. One last time, defending all of the people (like myself) who aren't really getting anything.<br />

I give presents to people I know all of the time because I love to do it. <br />

I wish there was an item that we can send to let our SS know that we are heading to bed or work or school for a while so that they know we won't be on for a bit. Right now, I am putting together some Subeta sleepy/bedtime items and hope they will get the idea. LOL <br />
My last two Secret Santas didn't send anything, but unlike Lil'Devil, I didn't think they were 'stupid'. I also didn't see it as greedy...for all I know, they had computer trouble or Subeta server trouble or a power outage (where I live, if you sneeze too loud, the power goes out). Maybe they were a kid and their big brother made them get off the computer...etc etc. <br />
In spite of that, I still had no problem sending some things to my SS yesterday even when he/she was a 'no-show'. I don't think I sent any unbuyables, but I sent whatever struck my fancy or something cute I found in a shop. It feels nice to think that they will log on the next day and realize that I didn't forget about them while they were gone. And, maybe they will spread some of that cheer to their next Secret Santa....which might even be you! <img src=/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif border=0>

realy all my ss have gaven at least 7 things back to me.... i feel bad for one of my ss because they gve me a rare potion ub and i realy couldnt give them something of that value back so i sent back what i could but i still feel kind of bad i as trying to sell it so i could get a new iteam for my ss but it didnt happen in time..

i love the ideaa of the secret santa.. But it is kinda depressing when u dont get anything back.. i send out really nice gifts.. all of mine are UB and not even a random plush is sent back to me.. this happend with everyone of my ss! i will defnitly keep doing it but i mean if ur reading this and u do not intend to send something back, stop being stupid and dont enter .. it ruins the fun for everyone else who is excited to take part in this. So, are lots of people getting it where you only get one gift immediately and never hear from their SS again? Because (and this may be silly) but I wonder if there is a glitch maybe? With all the error messages and the "1 second refresh" thing going on...maybe something isn't working. I only say this because the past two days have been like that for me. And my mom. The first few days were fine, but yesterday and today seem to be like it. I dunno. *big shrugs* Just thought I'd check with everyone else. Either way, I think it's mean to assume that just because someone isn't sending a lot that it means they are greedy. Especially during the week - they day goes by so fast and I barely have time to log on for as long as I want to. Okeyss - that's all. :]

I've had two awesome SS's and an awful one <img src=/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_raspberry.gif border=0> I'm spending what I make in the day on my SS. It's really NOT about value, it's about the spirit of giving. Don't give to receive, give what YOU want to and what makes you feel good, not because you want something back, and if you DO get something back then it makes it even better <img src=/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif border=0>

People complaining about not getting anything in return should keep in mind that your ss can't be online 24/7 especially with the site going down every now then and they may be taking their time deciding on what to send you because I like to put some thought into what I buy and sometimes it takes a while.

So many people are so ungrateful. *sighs* Perhaps those who are complaining about what they are not getting and those suggesting banning members not sending a certain amount should be banned from participating for a few days. Perhaps not being able to give or receive anything will give them a chance to think about others feelings and the spirit of the season. A little forced break from the activity may just give them a push in the direction of thinking about someone besides themselves.

I found out if some won has to go to school or to work and you sent them loads of stuff and you dont get anything then they are maybe off line at work or at school.

elly: answering your question. I tend to like silly, amusing and odd items. Id always take interesting combos of items thoughtfully put together in a theme <br />
(like balloons and cake for instance ) I don't think the SS is about trying to impress anyone. And sending UBs isn't possible for everyone. Expecting them is a sure recipe for a let down. <br />
I think the thing is to have fun.. and try to make your gifts unique, fun and not worry if you are "spending enough"

I was happy to find I was partnered with a fairly new account that seemed to not have yet made many friends. I spent the day tracking down wishlist items for them. They in turn sent me thing that the were obviously earning from finishing quests. Values were no where near equivilent but I know I made someone happy.<br />

I happened to know who was on the other side and the pairing was definitely not one where monitary values could be reciprocated. Truthfully I am glad it couldn't be for me ss is about trying to bring some joy to someone else. I hope between now and the end of the event those who who never seem happy about what isn't being sent, figure out the true meaning of the holiday season. Seeing the behaviour of others not understanding the joy of giving for the sake of giving is saddening.

I have to agree with Jenflower. It shouldn't matter what you give but as long as you give something back because it's a nice thing to do. I can't remember who said it, but someone earlier posted something like you shouldn't be so quick to decide that your ss is cheap and rude or greedy because you really don't know what's happening on the other side. My ss today has sent me a couple random game items and toys that are only worth about 1k but I'm still showering them with items and they send me something back every time so I believe they're having fun and perhaps just can't afford to send something super pricey back to me and also it's not about what you get, as along as you're having fun doing it ^^;

I dunno... I want to believe in the good in everyone. Perhaps your SS is a child starting out, maybe they are in a sad situation and a touch of empathy and kindness can go a long way for them. It's the spirit of believing you are showing you care..Maybe your SS is in that awful storm power outage and can't get online..maybe they are having the worst day of their lives. It doesn't matter the reason.. I want to believe that I am making someone smile. Regardless of what they do or dont do for me.

I'm sorry, missatralissa, but it really sounds like you don't get it. My daughter's friend has nothing - she barely gets a chance to play unless she is at a friend's house. She was excited about the idea that she could send a gift to someone she didn't even know. She sent two free items to her Secret Santa yesterday because that was all she really had. But today she actually took one of the very nice gifts she got from her SS yesterday and gave it away to her SS today because she read all these messages and doesn't want to make her new SS partner mad. She gave what she could the day before, but I can't believe that she should be sent the message that she did something "cheap and rude". This is so sad...really. I guess her way of "participating" isn't quite up to your standards, missatralissa...does that mean she should sit out for the rest of the event? Is that how you think it should work? I honestly do not understand that way of thinking.

I think it would be nice if you could set a price range when entering the SS. They could use the same program that they use with the autopricer to get the value of a gift, then have an UB option. I think that would work better for the "complainers" *lacking a better term* and it would just be nice for those "stingy" people out there. *my mind is blank right now* But that's just my opinion. I'd rather give to someone I know though, as opposed to a stranger that I know NOTHING about. If I at least knew something about them, I'd like that better...

It really is embarrassing to read people complaining about not receiving a lot of gifts. I don't agree with missatralissa at all. No one should feel that they aren't rich enough to spread a little holiday cheer through the Secret Santa activity. <br />
I signed up for a Secret Santa yesterday and gave some very nice gifts in the morning. Then, I was unexpectedly out for the entire day and when I returned late last night, I gave a few more. For all I know, that person could have been posting here during the day to complain that I had "disappeared" during the day and that I didn't give enough. That would be really sad. Luckily, I have enough sP to send really expensive gifts, but it's incredibly tacky to complain because the sP amounts of our exchanged gifts weren't equal. To me, the fun is in getting that surprise message that someone sent something to me. It's also fun to think that one of these "Secret Santa" days I might actually be helping out a poorer Subeta player.

a couple of people ive spoken to mentioned they didn't like the "selection of gifts" to send to the SS. They didn't realize it was reading what they had in their own inventory. I think that MIGHT be why many people got their gifts back. I think I'll go broke if I do this everyday though, so I think I'll wait until closer to Christmas to do it daily.<br />
For the people not receiving gifts, try sending something small first, I'm not talking junk from random or the slots small, but maybe head over to the Candy Shack or Icy Goods and send some treats to see if they are alive and will respond. Well, I might be disappointed again. My first SS sent a couple fairly cheap items and disappeared, though I sent 6 or 8 very nice items, including an UB. For those who have not received anything do take into account the serious amount of lag, site errors and down time today. I signed up for this hours ago and then the server went down this is the first I have been able to get back and so I passed along gifts as soon as I could. In a secret santa situation you no nothing about what is happening on the other end. To assume the worst really says alot about a better person. I can't speak obviously for anyone else, but in true holiday spirit I signed up to give and not receive. If you can't handle the chance you may not get a gift in return perhaps you should stick to sending gifts to friends instead.
