The Swampie has gotten a revamp, and hopes to win a place in your home. It is also now available in Marsh.

Love the revamp but it looks a bit TOO spiky. Not much change though and I love the pose. Still I'm glad Monoko is galactic.

sort of liked swampies before...
simply loved the galactic one and wanted Kouhai to be one (too bad it came out a day after i colored Kouhai already... had to wait for the next chance... wich i missed second times due to problems of the site <img src=http://75.126.226.189/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_sweatdrop.gif border=0> )

like the new art...
though something is wrong in my eyes.
the frot fin looks a little weird attached.
but more important the point where belly changes into tail... it's too stiff
for the neck being bend so proudly.

in the end it makes me not liking the revamp. :/
my eyes always wander to that part.

Is there anyway to know which species will change in the near future? Obviously you can't predict what may change in the future, but us there a list you could put on the site somewhere, the forums perhaps, of species and/or colors that are actually in the process of being re-done? I think that would take away the shock factor and also keep people from changing a pet one day and coming on to see that their brand new potion they bought was for nothing. You don't even have to allow debate. Just a heads up would be helpful.

Nestly: (( And wow, pardon me for typing your name wrong there. Dx ))
0

Nestly

Nestly: Wow... it just, amazes me how hard the staff tries (especially Debiless here) to explain and listen to the users here, though stuborn and selfish sounding they seem. (I use the word 'selfish' because the art is better. The revamps are better. And just because you're not used to it, doesn't mean an entire community is going to change it just for you. The nicer art makes the site as a whole look much more appealing. I just don't know why practically ALL the comments here are whiners.) <br />
The staff are staff for a reason. They decide how something ends up, and it's remarkable just how much they do consider everyone's comments and points. I wish all sites were like that.<br /><br />
And to Debilee... no offence but you're really going in circles with these answers. You've explained the best you can and despite being considerably reasonable, some people just don't want to listen until they get their way. Yar. 8| ...I'ma stop budding in now. *needs to mind her own beezwax*

And, sophiten, I believe that the artists have said that, in some cases, the Galactics had been used as sort of previews to potential revamps. There is nothing unfair about it, it is simply a more efficient use of time. See? There you go assuming things with no basis again. No, I didn't say the same for the Dragon, and wouldn't have, actually. But I do know that there were multiple requests for wings. I was never discussing that particular revamp, as, quite honestly, I'm not sure how a poll on that one would have gone. But on this revamp, which is the actual topic, it is quite clear that this version would have won. People are actually changing their pets into Swampies now; that was practically unheard of before. And, yes, some people do love some of the pets as they are; I have one particular one that I'm that way about myself. But I know that the good of the art on the site as a whole overrides my personal preferences, so I can't expect it not to change. In all honesty, I can't think of any other site on which the users get as much input as they do on this one. We have a solid Art Department that does amazing work, all I'm saying is give them a vote of confidence every now and again, as well as not taking time away that could be much better spent on other site issues to do something that isn't really a necessity.
0

DebiLee

Excitement, I'm sorry, but you clearly have no concept of what is actually going on. First off, a revamp of a pet is quite a long process; these have been worked on for quite some time now. Second, the site isn't really down, there are now 500+ users on again at peak points. Third, we have hardly not been hearing complaining. Also, everyone has said I would have liked to have had a vote... I would have voted yes. Which shows it would have won a poll. Setting up polls for every revamp just wastes time that really can be better spent elsewhere at the moment; there are things on the site that need to be done, rather than a redundant poll that, regardless of what anyone is saying, would have come out with this version as the clear winner, most likely by a fairly large majority. And therein lies the problem, users wanting something unnecessary done just for the sake of having "a sense of power". As has been said over and over, the users do have a say, just not necessarily in poll form. The artists do read the forums and take note of comments and suggestions, which is one of the reasons that the Swampie was revamped in the first place, it has been requested over and over.
0

Sophiten

I'm tired of hearing 'it would have been voted for, so why bother?'. Why bother? Because how can you be sure? I'm sure you would have said the same for the Dragon, and look how much people hate the wings and the loss of whiskers. It's a whole new type of pet.

It's just frustrating that some pets are polled when others aren't. It's not fair. There are people on the site that love each and every pet as they are. They got them because of how they looked. How rude is it to assume they'd love any change just because staff does. They should get in their opinion before its released, that way if its minor changes they can be done BEFORE it's released so EVERYONE can be happy.

It doesn't seem like much to ask.
0

Excitement

I'm starting to agree with everyone else on here whos saying stuff about us not having an opinion. From my view it looks like you guys tried to do all these revamps while the site happened to be down so you wouldn't have to deal with users complaining. I'm not saying thats true, but it sure does look like it.

Bleh, I wish we could have voted on this. I would have voted yes for this, but it would give users a sense of power and like they had a say.

<b>Quote:</b><blockquote style="padding:5px; line-height:15px; background-color: #FAFFFF; border: 1px solid #000000; font-family: georgia; font-size: 10;">also users don't necessarily know where Subeta style is heading, while the artists/art directors can see all versions of all pets being worked on by the artists and see which need revamped in what way to be consistent. This particular pet has been consistently requested to be revamped.</blockquote>

I would comment on that but, eh..nvm...i think I would be going to far.

Please excuse the typos. *desperately needs a new keyboard but keeps forgetting to actually buy one* XD
0

DebiLee

SlainBySpike, if the old versions were "perfectly fine", then they would not be changed. Yes, that has been suggested before, but it would defeat the purpose of the revamps if something were available to revert pets to the old inconsistent or... artistically challenged, in some cases (read: Unibrow Swampie XD) versions.
0

DebiLee

Sophiten, that is exactly the problem. People have somehow come to believe that poll News comments are free-for-all critiquing grounds. This was never the intent of the polls; a poll is merely a device used to judge which of two (or more) things is preferred. Which is exactly the point; this version would have been chosen over the previous version, hence no poll required. I also cannot comprehend how people seem to think that everything on the site shoulf just sit on idle because the site has a few issues, when there were just under 500 peopl on earlier today. My point is that this revamp could be added now, because no poll was necessary, so users who were unable to get on and vote would not present a problem. Polls were always used only when deemed necessary, and never for every species revamp.

minno150

Was there this much fuss over the lack of polls before the dragon? :/ I think we should just have polls for what staff is undecided on and what turns out to be a major change (such as the torrent and the dragon).
0

Sophiten

If that's the case, the it seems as if the users opinions really don't matter. Shouldn't we get a say in all cases, not just one staff can't seem to decide on? We're the ones the pets are for, not just staff.
0

Luxe

I think it's been said repeatedly that polls are used when staff is undecided on a particular revamp and needs an extra set of opinions to sway them in one direction or another. Being that we're not always undecided, polls are not always necessary.
0

minno150

SlainBySpike, I think that would be impractical as some people prefer a specific color over others as well, and the staff may as well just make new pets that looks like old ones under that basis. And then we'd have fifty thousand different elixirs, many of which would go to old, unupdated art. That's not fun, especially if you have a potion/elixir gallery.
0

minno150

o.o So the Dragon was under appreciated? ;_; What's wrong with people? That was a great pet before.

I really like this new Swampie compared to the old one. But I agree with a bunch of people who are against the revamps. Not saying the revamps are all bad or anything, but I think it would be really great if there could be a middle ground. Okay, Subeta team and all the people who just love the revamps... get them. Now, as for all those people who are die-hard fans of the old and perfectly fine versions of the pets... Couldn't you make them a potion/elixir that could be purchased by anyone to transform them back to their old selves? Of course, the potion should be fairly common and not too expensive, because that would just fuel comments like "Well, I get to have my beloved pet back, but I have to pay an arm and a leg for it!" I don't know. Just an idea. Don't know if anyone else has suggested this, either.
0

Sophiten

The point is not that it WOULD have won in a poll (and how would you know that, really?), but the fact that we would have had a choice. In all honesty, I would have voted yes for this one, but I still would have critiqued the tail. I hate the tail, even though the art is a big improvement over the old swampie. Also, why DID you put this up when you know so many people haven't been able to access the site? You brought it up yourself, seems ridiculous to do these kinds of things when there are so many problems. Item adds and pet revamps are no where near the same. But, back to my point, polls should be used for ALL, not just for the ones you think need it. It's not fair to give it to some and not others when there ARE people out there that LOVE species you think are unloved.
0

Squid

... Keith is right. NO ONE seemed to like the swampie (Except me -waves Swampie flag- xD). Majority of the people want it gone, forget about just a revamp. And while the poll thing is good, think about it. A ton of people who have voted yes to the change, so why is everyone complaining? Because you didn't get to vote? Is this really the place for that?

But while we have people joining on the swampie front... When is my tee shirt going to be made wearable? xD

I still think the tail is weird. And the more I look, the less I like the back spikes. I DO like the face though. I think it's cute.
0

Keith

We care about what the users think - And we usually poll species.

The species we don't are so under appreciated that we don't put it up.

Opinions are still being considered; there is a board for suggesting which pets need revamps, which is checked by the art staff. Also, there is the Bragging and Complaining board as well. I never said that user opinions don't matter, only that polls on each and every revamp are totally unnecessary and superfluous, especially on this particular species of pet, where this version would very clearly have won, even just judging by the comments alone. Polls generally just end up being a mass of complaints and very little actual constructive criticism, not to mention actual attacks on the artists and their abilitites, which I, for one, quite frankly am extremely tired of. Keith hires the art staff; I trust their abilities. Also, the comments on revamps almost always involve people saying opposite things about the same aspect of a drawing. It is the job of the art staff to decide which best suits the pet and Subeta style overall. The problem is that, since polls were done on revamps where there actually was more than one possible option (sometimes more than one artist used to tackle the same pet before the more practical solution of the artists mainly drawing the types of pets that they happen to excel at was implemented), users started to demand polls on every single revamp being considered, even individual items, not just pets! There were never polls on every single pet revamp; that was never the point, nor the intention of polls, they were merely a tool used when input was requested, if options were available. User opinions matter, just not necessarily in a poll form at all times. Noir, I think you misunderstood me. I meant that there were people critiquing anatomical points who clearly had no real understanding of anatomy. I meant that those criticisms were invalid, not the opinions on a more general level. Haha, now that amused me! I've noticed a few complaints recently concerning how kelpie is in no position to judge Subeta art, since she's not an actual artist. Thank you very much for also validating her. But an art critic (by the way, I'm not sure I believe your 90% of art critics can't draw theory, as the ones that I know were actually artists prior to becoming critics, one for many years quite successfully as a matter of fact, although I'm quite sure that some can't, I just question that 90% figure) wouldn't criticize anatomy with no concept of how it actually is and works. And... some art critics ARE in the wrong profession, from some of what I've seen... but that's neither here nor there. My point was merely that every single revamp doesn't require the unnecessary time and effort of setting up a poll. Also, had this one been polled, then there would have been an OMG that's so unfair when some users can't even access the site outcry. And if you think that our art department all draws the same then clearly you haven't been paying attention. I said stylistically match the overall Subeta style in shading, lineart, etc., but the pets still reflect the individuality of the artists. Noir, in your case especially, I think you can tell the difference readily between say... Arbor art and Rah art. Our artists most definitely do not all draw the same.

i do like the swampie much, i think it looks a LOT better. but what im not liking is the fact that we cant vote. i agree with Noir and Angelembryo completely. voting gave us the feeling that our opinions mattered and that we could decide/suggest on the revamps and feel a lot happier with it. with everything being revamped without our say, its really getting on my nerves, and im sure others feel the same way. theres more of a chance that people wont cause a whole riot because they dont like the revamp if there were polls, you know? now the Chai and the Swampie, beautiful. but the Dragon and the Dragarth, as everyone says, they arent what we expected (seriously, no disrespect)
0

AdiGallia

Of the past four revamps (Dragarth, Dragon, Chai and Swampie) I have been extremely happy with two and disappointed with two. I like the Chai and Swampie, I think even with polls they would win by a vast majority.

I think Dragon would still win the poll, but my a smaller amount, same with Dragarth. Thing is, has a pet ever 'lost' in a poll?
0

I still hate swampies but this one is like .00001 % better. What are the point of having them? They're really ugly and I don't get how some of you like it! EWWWWWWWWWWW
0

TheseHeights

Agreed, angelembryo.
0

angelembryo

I agree with Noir 100%. It's not necessarily about the polls themselves; it's about what they represented. Namely, the notion that user opinions mattered and steered the growth of the site. But when everything starts to look the same because everyone on art staff seems to think the same, and art staff is a VERY tiny percentage of the user base... how is that positive evolution? Difference of opinion is what causes things to change for the better. Who was it that said "I never learned anything in my life from a man who agreed with me"?

Maybe with these last few unpopular revamps, any polls still would've ended in a majority "yes" vote (I doubt that, but speaking hypothetically here). But that's not the entire point of polls. Polls gave users a chance to critique revamps and see changes made where necessary before the final release. Polls gave ALL users, not just the ones who frequent the SB and IRC and suggestion forums, a chance to participate. Look how much critique the Torrent, Demi, and Escalade polls received, and how different their revamps turned out, even though the "yes" votes were winning. And look how much happier people were with those final versions than they have been with the Dragon, Dragarth, etc.

I think the anatomy and everything is quite fine; I just dislike the revamps in general. They're being made to look "cool" and I'm not into that.

And I'd adopt them out because they wouldn't suit the name anymore. I make pets based off my characters, and if I have a pet who is nothing like my character but named after my character, it's stupid. I go by what suits the pet's look; I don't go and choose names I just like and assign them to random pets.

I don't want to complain, anyway, so you guys don't have to reply to anything I say. I'm not going to get a swampie, chai, dragon, etc. so whatever. xD

I don't like the spikes.

This one is an improvement in ways, and I like the look of it. I'm not exactly sure about if it changed but I think I might have prefered the old Chibi Swampie, but otherwise i like the change. <img src=http://75.126.226.189/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif border=0> If I had to put my money on it I'd say umm... Serpenths basic colours could do with revamps, if they ain't already in the planning <img src=http://75.126.226.189/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_raspberry.gif border=0>

I am actually enjoying this revamp, though the eyes bug me, the way the white part (whatever it is called) is like.. maroon. Also the right eye (furest away) seems at a wrong angle though it may just be me XD
Also i think its a bit odd that the highlight on its side is right above the shadow and touching it (as many of the other highlights are but this one sticks out). I can't wait to see some of the colour revamps for the swampie!
0

Jasper

When I first saw this update I went "EW!" but after taking some time to look at it... I don't know what to think... The long outstretched tail seems wrong to me... I liked it more when the tail was curled under. Especially with it's head raised like that. With the tail the way it is, I feel that the head should've been downwards, turning towards the user for that would definitely look like a more realistic pose.
<br /><br />
As for it's spikes... Eh, I think it makes the Swampie look like a reptilian version of Sonic the Hedgehog but I don't necessarily hate 'em either.
<br /><br />
The only other thing that's bugging me is the tail. It's plain, and boring. Maybe you should add some spikes down it's tail to make it look more crocodilian and or fins to make it more aquatic? :/
<br /><br />
As for us not getting a chance to vote on this... This is becoming a trend that I really dislike. One of the first reasons why I prefered Subeta over else where, is because they actually gave a damn about our opinions and actually gave users a say about what happened with the pets.
<br /><br />
Oh and Debilee, I have to disagree with you on the whole anatomy thing. Sure, most of these kids don't know how to properly draw someone's head or their body for that matter but that doesn't mean their opinions are any less valid than those that do.<br />
Take a look at art critics. I guarantee you that 9/10 of them can't draw a stick figure but they get paid to judge art, what's it worth, etc. And people listen to these critics. Now according to you, they're in the wrong profession and shouldn't have any opinion at all. :/
<br /><br />
It doesn't take an artist to decide what looks good or not. And besides, when you have an art department who all draws the same and has the same idea of what looks good, it defeats the purpose, don't you think?
0

Scy64

I love the new swampie too! It seems to have more of a personality attached to it, like the other pets do. It also looks more like a graceful sea dragon rather then a pudgy ocean dinosaur. <img src=http://75.126.226.189/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_wink.gif border=0>
0

luffle

Wow, personally I think the new Swampie is gogeous. (:
0

DebiLee

No, we don't "NEED" to have polls for every revamp.. or any, really, to be honest; that's why we have an Art Department. Not all users have a good understanding of anatomy (granted, some do, but definitely not all, as was very clearly evidenced in some past revamp comments); also users don't necessarily know where Subeta style is heading, while the artists/art directors can see all versions of all pets being worked on by the artists and see which need revamped in what way to be consistent. This particular pet has been consistently requested to be revamped. Why adopt them out if you dislike a particular revamp but like the name? Why not just elixir or zap? Art on any site is not static; it needs to change and evolve and be dynamic, not just sit and stagnate. How boring would that be?
0

Poet

Oh, WinterFae, I absolutely agree with you. We NEED to have polls to prepare us and let us actually have a decision with the damn thing. I, personally, have disliked every single new revamp you guys have come out with lately, and I can just see my other pets are going to be screwed up soon. I really wish there was a delete feature for pets so I don't have to adopt them out and watch other people get my names that I've used since I was a kid. Ugh.
0

Ugh. Ok, then. I can just see the Torreys are going to be next. I better save the picture before it changes so I won't forget its look.

I love this revamp. Now my (galactic) Swampie doesn't look so drastically different from the other coloured Swampies. I think that, had the common and other basic-posed Swampies looked like this before, I'd not have been so quick to use a morphing potion on Alaena when she changed into one from the Pet Zapper. <img src=http://75.126.226.189/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif border=0>

I do appreciate the polls, it makes me feel like the admin values the users opinions, so wish there had been a chance to vote (It would have atleast prepared everyone for change. I think thats the big problem. Users get up in arms cause they dont expect it).

That being said
I love the redraw!
(I would have voted for it).
0

Squid

I don't know. It's not bad or anything, but I'm pretty glad that none of my swampies are effected.

Something about the back end of it seems weird to me.
0

DebiLee

This pet hasn't been "drastically changed". As I said before, it is the job of the head artists, with Keith, to decide on revamps, and they have been critiqued by the art staff as well. Polls aren't really necessary any longer at this point, especially not on this particular revamp, which isn't a particularly radical change at all. This version would clearly have been favored over the former version. The idea is to get fresher, more consistent with the current Subeta style, art; the artist of the former version of the Swampie hasn't been on Staff for quite some time now. And the version prior to that one was the dread unibrow Swampie; anyone remember him? XD

I didn't like the dragon revamp and some of the more recent ones...but I think this one turned out quite nicely! The shading is really nice...it looks really sleek and shiny like a water creature should.

I don't think staff should have to poll us on everything, but if it's a major change (dragon) or something they're unsure of then they should. This is really a minor change to the design with updated art, so it can't really be all that necessary, can it? But I guess for the people who loved their swampies for their vacant look and puny spikes then it probably is... mm.
0

Jessi

While I do think Aqua did a lovely job and it's a wonderful revamp, I don't think it's very.. .logical to use REDRAW pet colors as a basis for how the basic pet should look. Kinda takes the fun away out of being a redraw <img src=http://75.126.226.189/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_happy_sweatdrop.gif border=0>

I prefer the old Swampie, and the shorter spines, I think I'll be morphing my pet again (Will wait until the next month to make Misty another pet) and the shorter tail.
I wish the staff learned from the Dragon revamp to please poll us.

Update the pose without drastically changing the pet. I've already bounced from <img src=http://75.126.226.189/images/icons/fileico.gif><b>Help</b>: <a href="/help/index.php?act=search&search=Other Pet Sites" title="Articles related to Other Pet Sites"><u>Other Pet Sites</u></a> to this site, and I'm tempted to leave again if my reasons for choosing this pet species change so quickly!

GameCubeGirl

btw what happened about the feli revamp? there was a poll for it ages ago, has it been scrapped? o.o
0

minno150

Maybe they need a new color... something light that they can use to test revamps with? Maybe a new color called Snow or Cloud or... just something. I'm thinking something white and light blue, seeing as Arid is white and pink/red (with some black).
0

User not found:

I did love the old Swampies, but the new ones are pretty snazzy, and hopefully more people will like them. Though I am a bit sad about the coloring of my Dawn Swampie - she used to have cute little pink frosting toes, but now they are a weird orange.
0

Shae

I have to agree that I wish they would stop using the galactics as a preface to revamps as the shading is sometimes rather dark and hard to see the details as well as the galactics being in a different pose than the common versions of the species. I just don't feel it is a fair comparison because of that. Can I say again how much I like the new version of the swampies...especially the marsh one?
0

GameCubeGirl

oooo sounds really good, might be worth checking it out XD

0

AdiGallia

"I just hope the Galactic Swampie does not change."

...the new Swampie was made to look like the Galactic Swampie. Aqua drew the Galactic Swampie as her first Swampie colour and now she has revamped most of the rest. Honestly, there is hardly any difference between the Galactic and common Swampie.
0

minno150

The Galactic Swampie won't be changed because it was basically the test run for the revamp. I really wish they'd stop using galactics for that... I can't see the lineart without squinting.
0

GameCubeGirl

certainly sounds like an interesting encyclopaedia you have there <img src=http://75.126.226.189/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_whatthe.gif border=0> but still...maybe they just stretched the facts a little to suit nessie? oh well ^^

"I don't know why they had to be revamped, people picked their pets because they like the way it looks. Now the future of my swampie seems uncertain. I hope I get use to it eventually"

Ummm..you have a Galactic Swampie, that was the first revamp of the Swampie, they have the longer spikes on their backs and the face on the Galactic Swampie looks more like the new one.

Basically how can you bad mouth this revamp when one of your pets has been made since Aqua took over.

It looks like it should be older than the art it replaced. =

Well, my magical creature encyclopedia says kelpies are "The classic water horse in Celtic, and especially Scottish, tradition. The Kelpie haunted rivers rather than lochs or the sea." So, I guess they might not be demons... I swear they were.
0

Burro

Wow. o_O I'm actually really impressed with this one. :3 Kudos, Aqua, on restoring dignity to the swampy.

well ive definitely heard nessie referred to as water kelpie, maybe it was kelpy* then? either way sounds the same XD i think in the movie Loch Ness where it was called kelpy at one point too

minno150

Hopefully something that needs it. (ie: Not Paralix). There are pets that haven't been updated once that need one. Paralix was updated, and he's grand looking. The pose is great and elegant and the face is angry yet the most adorable... hee, well, I want to avoid saying that -I- love it, because personal opinion doesn't seem to account for anything at all, but I do. It's a lovely face. Unlike the galactic, whose face I can see. Eck. I'd originally made a Paralix because I loved the revamp. I think Fire Lady was one, but I wanted her reborn and didn't like the reborn paralix. So I made another paralix and looked for a color that I liked.

I love the new swampie! It's so much more graceful and elegant!

And I wanted shed some light on the nessie debate: I think why people think the swampie needs dolphinesque fins is because for a long time (and probably still) people believed Nessie to be an ancient plesiosaur, which looked like this: http://www.uh.edu/engines/plesiosaur.jpg
They have back flippers, but it's not a dolphin tail. Although some scientists claim that nessie is not a pleiosaur (http://www.uh.edu/engines/plesiosaur.jpg), which would make it more of a snake-eel creature.

Finally, a swampie revamp! 8D ONLY issue I have is that the swampie's nose looks a bit like it was smoonched against a window, but, hey! I can live with that. c: I dunno about all the naysayers, but I think this was the best revamp so far. *applauds* Thank you for making the swampie beautiful! *leaps about happily*
0

minno150

Well Nessie lives in a lake. Dolphins live in the sea. Dolphins' tails are more equipped for swimming fast or far distances. Eels don't need to go far. Even the ones living in a lake. They're usually around the sea floor or a reef. Nessie, most likely the biggest thing in the lake, doesn't need to flee far from anything.

Common belief is "Nessie" is/looks like a plesiosaur. Plesiosaurs were reptiles, dolphins are mammals. I, too, find it difficult to believe "Nessie" would have a dolphine tail. Shark tail, possibly, but a dolphin... nah. xD Just my opinion, though. <img src=http://75.126.226.189/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_raspberry.gif border=0>

Honestly? There is not criteria as far as "well we're just changing a pose, or a color, or the whole pet". The criteria is really whether or not we're personally decided upon this revamp. If we need some extra opinions to tilt the scales one way or another, you'll usually see a poll. We also make polls at the specific artists request, should they want one.

I can't imagine Nessie with a dolphin tail at all... dolphins don't really live in lakes anyway, not like eels do. It makes no sense for any creature in a lake to have a dolphin tail.
0

angelembryo

Sailor Mini Moon, try not to generalize too much. There are thousands of users on the site. Those who called the Swampie ugly before and those who now say they liked the old one better don't have to be the same people.

Ooh, this is great! I love it way more than the other version. Especially the fins, the lighter green spots.... :3 I just think the spikes on the head are a little big. Other than that, I love it.
0

Phil_299

It's okay... The only thing I really don't like is the tail. Maybe if you gave it a dolphin-esque tail, it's have looked better. It looks too much like an eel and not enough like Nessie. Otherwise it's not bad.

0

Truthfully, I don't see a problem with the revamp, I think that it is a good touchup from the old swampie. I don't mind that the tail may be longer and looks eelish, but when you look at it, most sea serpents, eels, certain species of mud fish, salamanders and even tadpoles have angular tails that help them to swim better underwater, so really what's the issue if the new swampie is a little more realistic? It just reminds me more of good 'ol Nessie.

Oh, and. I forgot to say it in my previous comment.

Please release the angelic celinox. :3 But again, I like this revamp. bye.

Rainbow_Muffin

Personally, I think the artist redrew the Swampies because they really didn't get that much attention. From what I've seen, not many people had Swampies because they thought they were ugly, or whatever.
<br />But now, I think that this re-draw is absoultly amazing. I actualy /like/ the long, eel-like tail. For an under-water type creature, I think it's fitting.
<br />
<br />So, I love this re-vamp. Maybe now, hopefully, some people will like the Swampie (considering I didn't like them before either, now I really like them). I'd get one, if I had the space. ]=

Absolutely. I *adore* the new Torrent, and I can't wait to see the rest of the redraw colors. Not to put Arbor under the pressure cooker or anything. *lalala* =D I'm anxious to see the Paralix revamp; another species with very dated art that has so much potential. Serenity

I think this is very well done, I always liked swampies, they just didn't fit any of my pet personailities. I don't see where people think this is so drastically diffrent from the old. The tail was always longer then the body and eel like it just curled up around the body and extended past the chest. The fins are the same basic shape/size just slightly diffrent positioning. They seem to be a bit slimmer, but that I attribute mostly to positioning.

The dorsal fins/spikes have got signifigicantly longer but in my opinion that is an improvement as they always looked too small compared to the body before. The addition of a visible mouth is nice as well never understood how a creature could get that big if it couldn't open it's mouth to eat :p

The face, the body, the spikes and the tail are completely different. I don't understand why it has been redrawn, I think, it had been better if they made just a new coloring, because the old one was really ugly. I have a flatscreen, Shadow, so I think I know what you're talking about. At certain angles, the monitor seems brighter or darker than at others, and it really makes a huge difference at times.
<br /><br />So that, and just monitor differences in general, might have something to do with it--because all the galactic pets, and the palette we use for them, has the base color show up as a deep (but not almost black by any means) blue. <img src=http://75.126.226.189/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif border=0>
0

I have to agree. How are we supposed to take the galactic pets as example for basic colors? From what I see, the Galactic Swampie doesn't have an eel like tail. It seems much rounder, this one looks like an eels. It's not the same. I had a G.Swampie before, and I never would have had it if I thought it was eel like. The Chibi is adorable too, but I was hoping for a color update. Chibi's aren't babies, so choosing the ambiguous lilac color much like how it's done in the real world when a baby's gender has yet to be defined doesn't really fit to me. I was glad to see the Chibi Malticorn lose the lilac and I'm not sure why the Swampie is any different?

Galactic Serpenth is a perfect example of the point Chimaera is trying to make.

My monitor brightness is up as far as it goes. I think part of the difference is that it's a laptop screen, which doesn't get as bright as a regular screen, and is also affected by the angle at which the screen is tilted. So maybe some of the people complaining about darkness are using laptops? The pets that are too dark for me to see clearly, I just chalk it up to my screen. <img src=http://75.126.226.189/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif border=0>

No, you're misunderstanding. What I meant was, we're not about to start polling users to say "Would you like us to attempt a revamp of the _____? Yes or No." as then the debate process would be very lengthy, only to post ANOTHER poll once something is drawn up and say "Do you like this revamp of the ____? Yes or No."<br /><br /><br />That was my meaning. <img src=http://75.126.226.189/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif border=0>

I had a swampie, it was the darkmatter swampie, then I made it galactic, and now it's a serpenth because.. well... I liked the galactic serpenth a LOT and Nostalica was supposed to be a snakelike pet anyway. lol

Pose doesn't change the general structure or appearance of a pet other than in color, save for special colors such as hydrus that actually add extra features to a pet.
<br /><br />In addition, I've seen several people say Galactic is particularly dark; it isn't a bright color by any means, but it's on the same level as dark matter and bloodred in those respects. Have you considered adjusting your monitor setting and seeing if it helps?

0

Kamil

As far as me loving the revamp but not owning a Swampie - the old pet was far, far too oogly for me to be willing to own one for any longer than it took for me to get from the fairground zapper to my vault for a Fester or Keeto elixir; I finally gave up the fairground zapper entirely, because I couldn't bear owning Swampies and I was tired of using an elixir every four hours when the zapper gave me a new one. Now, if I go back to zapping Maigrey, I'd be quite willing to use the fairground zapper again - this pet wouldn't make me wince every time I saw my lookup. ^^
0

SHiVA

Well the tail is rather eel-like, and there's something about the expression/face I don't like (can't put my finger on it though..), but otherwise, it's definately an improvement <img src=http://75.126.226.189/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif border=0>
0

minno150

...Chim, galactic pets aren't a good way to test out future revamps with people. They're in a different pose and are incredibly dark. You can barely see them, and if you can see them and do like them, they're in a different pose so it's assumed that it's different for the reason of its color, not the reason of what its species will become. And again, the different pose that the galactics have compared to their general species makes them appear differently. So it's not really fair.

We watch the forums--many times, users have made boards asking for opinions on what pets most needed revamps, in addition to when staff have done so.
<br />Every time, the swampie was one of the first pets to be named, and was repeatedly agreed upon.
<br /><br />And we are in the process of updating our old art, so there's your heads up, should you all require one. <img src=http://75.126.226.189/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif border=0>
0

The comments so far have been overwhelmingly supportive. So the users may or may not own a swampie.

Those same users would vote in a poll, and in the same way. So... what difference would a poll make?

Most dynamic poses, Takkeh, keep the same characteristics of the common pet. So while you may not disagree, the galactic was an example of things to come with the swampie. Likewise other galactic pets...

"(which was another user request, by the way)"

i curious, what is called "user request" in cases like this <img src=http://75.126.226.189/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_whatthe.gif border=0> 50 people are crying "redo the swampie" and you do? how many percent of the users do have to submit such an idea?

im not a big fan of this. i think its too different from the original, all the things i liked about it have changed. i agree that a poll should have been taken to get the perspective of users who actually care about this site. it seems like a lot of the people with positive comments dont currently have a swampie. so maybe this 'new' pet appeals to them, but current owners enjoyed the old look...

It could use shortening. The spikes do look a bit too "spikey" as it was put, but I find it tolerable. Maybe others don't... the mouth, however, I like. It needed a mouth. Now it doesn't look so stupid. I could totally have gone out Swampie tipping with the dumb look it had on its face before, now I'd go out to swim with or ride a Swampie. Major major improvement.

hm. my resumee:
the art is great - it's much too different to mess with the old swampie - good decision to impress new users, bad decision for the old users who liked them.
0

hollo

Holy moly that's freaking awesome! Dood, its totally more anatomically correct than the old one... XD Yes, I'm the weirdo who likes some pets to be anatomically correct. This Swampie looks like it could live in water and actually survive. More like a Plesiosaur. I always thought the old one was a bit too bulky, and didn't have the necessary equipment (ie good tail and fins) to be able to survive in a water state. This Swampie looks sleek like a torpedo, you could definitely see it giving chase or just shooting around underwater... And yes, I love that tail. Underwater, once it started coasting, it wouldn't be using it flippers for any sort of propulsion, it would use them for steering, and then the tail, with its undulating-ness, would be able to keep its constant speed without losing any due to drag created by having to push its fins out.
Definitely more, um... aquadynamic? I don't think its a word, but aerodynamic wasn't right for something that lives underwater... XD
ANYWAYS: FIVE BIGASS FREAKING STARS

I have to agree with karamell. :B

There is no REAL swampie. Who knows, maybe the first time it was draw, they had WANTED to make it look more eel-y, but ...failed in that aspect? The only one who can say for sure what a swampie is is the artist.

Haha shoot me for agreeing with her. But whatevrrr.

No matter how many times you change something, there will always be people that dislike it/something about it. It's only natural. :3
0

Kamil

Unless I am very much mistaken, the new Swampie was done by the same artist who did galactic.

Guess that just goes to show, doesn't it?

I'd say the comment thread is showing that this new pet would've won any poll by a mile - possibly more. =D
0

Dominic

I think it's great. One thing though: Shouldn't the chibi be the same color as the common? Or wasthe last version of chibi purple to begin with?

I don't really care, it's looks great, either way. And I like how the swampie's length has increased. It actually looks capable of swimming, now.
0

JESSYTA

As explained in other news post comments, revamp polls are not always needed, nor should users expected to be polled on EVERY revamp.
0

Dokuja

Takkeh, that sort of tirade is NOT acceptable on News comments posts concerning revamps - as an older member, you should know by now what our policy is concerning constructive comments.

I find it particularly interesting that you are so blindingly enraged when you yourself own a Galactic Swampie, which IS one of the revamped Swampies.
0

exquisite

Takkeh// you are way overreacting. if you think that this site is turning into "that other site" then leave. even though it's not. and saying "loving" in placement of a curse word just proves that your vocabulary is miniscule. and even though i myself don't particuarly care for the revamp, i have to admit that it's better art. and face it- things are going to change, and you're not always going to like it. so deal with it.
0

Luxe

Takkeh, irregardless of whether or not you like it, language like that is not allowed on the site, and we'd appreciate it in the future if you could tactfully word your distaste instead of being so rude. You're welcome to hate it. You're even welcome to explain why. But language like that is unacceptable, and as a user who has been here for two years, you might know that already.

I think we should have been able to vote on this as well...... The tail is FAR too long in my opinion.... the euespikes are rather.... off. They should have been kept lighter........ I actualy liked the way it looked like without a mouth and a rounded muzzle... x: The rest of the body is pretty good, though.... Save for the chibi. -0 It looks to.... square, like the neck is not attached properly. With the way it's attached to the shouders, it looks like it's a highly overweight tadpole, especialy in comparision to the tail.
0

User not found:

It's really different and that's cool! It's nice to see that when you go to make a change you make a real change - despite the naysayers which are inherent with the process. It's ok to like AND dislike a change, we need people on both sides or we'd all end up sheeple. The thing is we've just got to be helpful with our criticism AND our praise. So, I liked the old one better because of the pose and because it reminded me of a character in a childrens Serendipity book; however, the new one has undeniably cute button eyes and seems to be a content subeta resident!
0

Aicona

i think a poll would definitely say people like this one more. but i have to admit it's really different from the old one. i wonder why so many pets are revamped now? in every case there will be people who don't like it.
people chose thier pets because they liked them the way they were, i don't really find it right to change pets so very much =/
even if the new art is definitely well done.

And as for Takkeh: If you can't get your point across without cursing, then no one is really going to take you seriously. As you can see from the comments, most people are seeming to LIKE the redraw. Sure, you can't please everyone, but look at myself... I've never wanted a swampie before, but with this redraw, I do. Just an example. If you think this site is all about the money, you're crazy. If you think it's like that "other" site, you're even more crazy. This site is more of a tight-knit community than any I've ever been a part of.

Takkeh, you can't say what a Swampie is or what it isn't, it should be what the artist decides it is. I personally like the long tail and the neck and stuff. Just, the Chibi swampie looks a little bit block-ey, but again, that's my own opinion.
0

Scera

No, I don't want the DM Swampie to be revamped. It looks so cute without its mouth (that's the reason why I love Harvester- they don't have a mouth), looking at the single dark matter bubble. I can't imagine of a revamp that could look better than this.

No.

I'm sorry, but no.

This new..."Swampie" looks more like an eel than a Swampie. It doesn't have that cute innocence the real Swampie has. It's body is far too long to be a Swampie. It's tail is too flat. The spikes on the back and head are way too spiky. Everything's all wrong about it.

And don't even get me started on the Chibi Swampie.

No.

I always though "Oh my freaking god! The Swampie is adorable! Fave pet immediately!"

Keith, Kelpie, Chim, whoever else was involved with drawing this...monstrosity.

Thank you. This was the last love ing straw for me.

I sure hope all of you are happy.

What ever happened to the polls when there were new revamps planned? Why don't we get to do those anymore? Isn't Subeta supposed to be about what the community wants?

Apparently not.

But who cares right? This site isn't about the people anymore. It's about the love ing money. That's right. It is. It's not about the community or what the people think anymore.

This site's turned into "that other pet site". It has.

If you don't see that, you're in love ing denial.

Gosh... I want one. The long, snake-like tail, and gorgeous body detail looks lovely. I think I may want one now! <img src=http://75.126.226.189/images/smilies/smiley_xface.gif border=0>

Ohwow, those eyes are so pretty. *___* And I love how sleek and flowing it looks. And the lack of massive eyebrow-things is awesome too. XDD
I can't wait to see the really cool special colors like Reborn and Spectrum.

I never used to like Swampies until my zapping pet became Reborn <img src=http://75.126.226.189/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif border=0> I decided to keep him that way. I bet more people will want Swampie's now ... kudos to the artist!

I think its a great improvement. The swampie wasnt exactly a popular pet before, and I think this revamp keeps the same feel the swampie had before, but with nicer art. <img src=http://75.126.226.189/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif border=0> Kudos to the artist.

If the swampie looked like that back when I use to use the zapper, I wouldn't have minded ending up with it <img src=http://75.126.226.189/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_happy.gif border=0> Very nicely done. Who is the artist of this one? Aqua?
