The young Kora's face was a mask, his cerulean eyes barely even seeming to register your entrance. His fur was pure white with stick-straight hair the color of snow clouds that hung just above his shoulders. The boy was slight, small in the dark wood chair on which he sat. Chin rested on folded hands as he studied the stack of papers on the ornate desk before him. When he finally looked up he regarded you briefly before settling straighter in his seat.
"You may sit," he said as he gestured airily to the chair positioned on the opposite side of the desk from which he sat. "Welcome to my home."
"You are most gracious young sir Jojeyn," you reply as you take the seat. A flicker of annoyance flashed across the Kora's face, disappearing almost as quickly as it had come. You took note to be more careful with your words, remembering that the boy disliked being reminded of his youth. Clearing your throat you continue, "I hope that you will look favorably on my modest business proposition."
"About that. I shall get straight to the point. I have found some...interesting things in the ledgers you had sent me. These numbers might lead one to think that there were some less than reputable practices in your company." As he spoke he steepled his fingers beneath his chin. His gaze was knowing and seemed to pierce into your mind.
Of course there had been some disreputable handling of money, at your hands in fact. You did not intend to let this boy know that, however, as you needed a business partnership with him very badly. The embezzlement you had indulged in was on the verge of bankrupting your company and you hoped that his influence would be the life line you needed to pull you from debt. He may not seem much, but the child was the owner of a very old, and very rich, family company. A sickness had taken the boys parents and they had left him as heir to their fortune. It seemed that the young orphan had also inherited his fathers savvy for business. Even so, you felt confident you could outwit such an inexperienced youth. "Bad numbers," you exclaim loudly, feigning surprise. "Why, I shall have the entirety of my records scoured until I find the thief who would discredit my company! Once found I will have them arrested myself!" The bluster sounded earnest, at least you hoped.
"Allow me to save you some time," returned the Kora coolly. "Get out of my office and turn yourself in. I'll not do business with fools."
You stare at him for a beat, registering what he had said. Anger began to flush in your cheeks, making them warm. "Rotten brat! How dare you call me fool! I will not forget this insult! Mark me, you'll regret this!" The words spat out viciously as you leaped to your feet, knocking the chair to the ground.
Jojeyn pays no heed to your tirade. "Byrella," he says simply, "Please show our guest out."
A tall Legeica stepped from her post at the Koras' side. She moved quickly and has your arm in an iron grip before you can blink. With resolute steps she leads you out of the room. This is not finished. That child will soon meet his parents again. I will see to it. you think bitterly as you are shoved gracelessly outside of the large estate with the slam of the door ringing in your ears.
