He was named Rodney because my mom wanted a clown name for him as he had white hair all around his mouth. After thinking it over and only coming up with Bozo and Homie the Clown I remembered Rodney McKay from Stargate Atlantis. He was not only smart but also the comic relief at times. The Sir Rodney the Rotten part came about because I named his sister Princess Butterball and needed a bit more to his name. He became a knight. The Rotten part was because he was spoiled rotten.

On the day of May 6th, 2007 in a small town on the Grand River in Missouri Sir Rodney along with his brother Prince and sister Princess were found on the side of the river. In fact for the past week the river had been flooding and was only five feet from a small back road.

Shay had that day been walking on this road with her parents. As they passed a bramble of small shrubs and weeds Shay heard kittens calling out. She followed the sound into the weeds and found three little kittens. Two were clinging to roots and half in the water while the third was a foot up on dry land. She quickly picked up the two and thought the third was dead as it wasn't moving. When she touched it though it started meowing. She picked this one up as well and looked around. It appeared that another kitten had already drowned and was floating farther out in the water. She didn't see any more kittens so she back out onto the road.

As Shay and her parents walked back home they stopped into the small store to see if they had kitten milk. They didn't and were told to check the dime store. They didn't have any either. When they reached home it was agreed they had to make an emergency run to the next large town north of them on Route 11 to get kitten milk at the Wal*Mart. A box was found and made as cozy as possible for the kittens to sleep in. It was late, getting dark fast and there was the issue of the flooding. No one could go west as the river was over the road blocking Highway 24. Further east outside the next town Highway 24 was flooded by a creek going over the road. South was the flooding Grand River and a bit farther from that was the flooding Missouri River. North was the only way anyone could go at that time.

As they drove along the road Shay could see at one low point where the road passed a creek and wet lands that the water was only a foot from the edge of the road. This worried everyone. When they reached the Wal*Mart they quickly found the powered kitten milk and bought two containers and two bottles along with quickly grabbing a few other things as they had no idea how long they would be cut off and stranded in town. When they were heading back and passed the wet lands the water had gone up even more and was now a few inches from the road.
When they got home Shay quickly mixed up the kitten milk and feed the three staving kittens until their little stomachs almost burst. They were that hungry.

Later that night Route 11 was closed as the water finally went over the road. That night the area where the kittens were found went under water as well. By the time the flooding ended it was around three weeks of the main roads being under water.

Shay determined that the kittens had to be no more than 10 days old. They didn't have their eyes open yet. Their weights were, Rodney: 8oz, Prince: 7oz, Princess: 6oz. When Prince was old enough he was adopted by one of Shay's mom's coworkers.

In 2013 Sir Rodney became very sick. He was rushed to the vet where they suspected he had something stuck in his small bowel. He had emergency surgery that day. A week later the results came back that he had cancer. He came home and was pampered and made comfortable. For his birthday he was give a water fountain, the one thing he always wanted as he loved flowing water. On the night of May 25th Shay noticed he was having trouble breathing. On the 26th he was rushed back to the vet were it was revealed he had double pneumonia, a collapsed lung, and his liver had shrunk. After determining that even with treatment the chance he'd make a full recovery was very slim Shay made the decision that it was time for him to go. He was put to sleep in Shay's arms. He was buried with his favorite wool balls, foam balls, along with a packet of his favorite treats and a can of catfood.
