BIPOLAR DISORDER
A disorder associated with episodes of mood swings ranging from depressive lows to manic highs. Manic episodes may include symptoms such as high energy, reduced need for sleep, and loss of touch with reality. Depressive episodes may include symptoms such as low energy, low motivation, and loss of interest in daily activities. Mood episodes last days to months at a time and may also be associated with suicidal thoughts. There are some that may only ever experience manic episodes.

Treatments include therapy and medication. Recent cases have reported that a stable sleep/wake cycle also plays a major part in recovery, to the point where some could stop taking medication.

Due to it's rarity, bipolar is often misdiagnosed as clinical depression, (Or unipolar depression) and prescribed medications are thus ineffective since the two need vastly different treatments. It is also often miss-characterized by society as being similar to personality disorders, such as split personality (Dissociative identity disorder) and BPD. (Borderline Personality Disorder) While the similarities are there; such as manic episodes being similar to the risky behaviors of BPD, and the swapping of two extremes could seem similar to the swapping of personalities, it is important to note that bipolar is the changing of moods as opposed to core personality traits. (Someone can still remain optimistic and friendly through manic and depressive episodes) Furthermore, bipolar is a continued cycle between only two moods (mania and depression) while BPD can swiftly shuffle between many different, intense emotions either unprompted or in response to events. (Mainly anxiety and anger, with some sadness and depression) It is possible for someone to have both BPD and bipolar.

Like all disorders, the first step to getting better is admitting the problem exists. You are not a burden, nor are you invincible. You can't weather a storm that never ends. If you are suffering, please... break that cycle. Brighter days and a peaceful mind are waiting for you ahead.
