June 28th || Unusual Gems

Shining, shimmering, splendid... cursed, stolen, magic? Bugs, fruit, eyeballs? Your pet has stolen, discovered, inherited, crafted, or otherwise come into the possession of some unusual gemstones. Was this a grand heist or happenstance? Are they going to pawn them off asap or use it for power? Is the gem worthless to most but something precious to your character? Is it magic or mundane? A diamond ring dropped to the bottom of the ocean, or the delicate natural shell of an extinct species of snails? Maybe it's not a precious gem at all, but something small and beautiful your character values higher than any rubies and sapphires. Tell me what they're going to do with these Unusual gems.

June 21st || The Sun

Today in the northern hemisphere is the Summer Solstice, the longest day of sunshine all year and the official start of summer! What are your characters up to on this sunny day? Do they celebrate the sun or do they have to hide from it? Do they like their sun in the beach, garden, or desert varieties? Are harsh burns their usual or do they only get a tiny peek of it behind the storm clouds? Tell me about a time your character was out in the sun.

June 14th || Glow

A single star peaking through the clouds, or the glow-in-the-dark plastic stars you stick to your bedroom ceiling. The rhythmic bobbing and spinning of raver glowsticks. A dark room lit only by the LEDs of the electronics, or a single computer monitor. The wavey crackle of a distant campfire, or the signal flare of the stranded hiking party you're out to rescue. A fairy ring, a UFO hovering above that farmer's field, or a strange colorful rock that fell from the sky- do you dare approach? Tonight is dim, no moon and pretty cloudy, and the surrounding night makes it very easy for you to see this luminous glow.

June 7th || Scattered Paper

The gentle sound of pen or pencil scribbling away is the only sound for several minutes- until there is a slight bump and the slightly less gentle sound of a small stack of paper flipping onto the floor. What was this paper- freshly written letters, maybe, or important forms? Where they mundane or filled with magic sigils? Beautiful drawings or photographs? Student's final exams? Scraps for origami or paper airplanes? Where you rushing down the hall and just stumble into your true love, accidentally swapping manila folders with them? Did someone knock the stack over to distract you, or did something startle you as you where writing? Tell me how your pet is going to clean up these scattered papers.

May 31st || Red

From love to danger, red has many symbolic meanings. Culturally it can symbolize luck, trust, beauty, and wealth. It can signify importance for everything from a graded essay to a security system's red alert. Its vibrancy makes it stand out compared to the modest colors of the world- unless of course the viewer is color blind. In nature it's the color of blood (for most creatures), gorgeous flowers and stunning sunsets. This week tell me what this color means to your pet- do they where rose-colored glasses or are they always seeing red?

May 24th || Homemade Meal

We often have specific memories attached to certain foods- maybe a parent, grandparent, or mentor made us lunch in a way no restaurant has ever been able to rival. Maybe we learned how to cook from a loved one who is no longer with us, or teaching a child to cook is a memory you cherish. Preparing food can be an important step for coming of age ceremonies, mourning rituals, birthdays, grand feasts. Maybe the struggle of learning to cook on our own is one of the ongoing challenges in our lives, and the transition from poptarts to a basic homemade turkey sandwich was a big milestone. This week tell me what your pets consider a memorable homemade meal, and why it is important to them.

May 17 || Pins and Needles

Ooh, careful with those- did you already poke yourself? It's surprisingly easy. Do you know what you're doing? I'm on pins and needles watching you. It's a permanent tattoo, or the prick of a spindle and the spell is cast, or getting some stitches after an accident, or an agitated state of suspense. Whatever it is it's got me nervous. Or perhaps your pet is already a professional knitter or poison-needle assassin and they are perfectly comfortable with these pins and needles.

May 10 || Thunderstorms

April showers bring May flowers... or just more showers, and not the cute drizzles but the kind that boom and flash throughout the night. I am sitting through one of those right now, so this first week's prompt is thunderstorms! Summer monsoons? Capturing lightning elementals in a jar? A rainsoaked final showdown with your nemesis? A dark and stormy night in a spooky mansion? Cuddling up with a friend to watch movies? Oggling hunky Norse gods? Taking care of the pets who are scared of the loud noise? Let your creative side come out and tell me what your pets think of thunderstorms.
