Trade Prince of the Saheric
W.I.P
The paragraphs below are currently me doing world building for a few of my related pets, therefore some things may not make sense. Eventually these points will either be used in the final story, edited or cut completely.

First Light

Throughout the Saherimos desert lay many souks nestled within the nooks and crannies of the shifting sands. There were many great stories about the wealth of the many Trade Princes of the Saherimos Desert. About the many treasures sold in the crowded souks, to shady dealings in the shadows. The warm glow of multi colored lanterns stood out like beacons amongst the dunes. Though the desert itself seemed like a gloomy wasteland, the souks and temples nestled throughout the desert exuded the warmth of life. You let out a sigh before bracing yourself for the cold trek down the dunes. "This Trade Prince better be worth it" you murmur to yourself, your voice being carried off by the howling winds coming from the Arctic North.

~

Your first impression inside the souk is how the light changes. The numerous slats above your head filter the sunlight above, creating a cascade of shafts illuminating some goods, and obscuring others. The colorful lanterns catch your eyes, the light dancing from one latern to another as you make your way through the crowds. When you glance down, you see boxes near to overflowing with spices and sticky dates, and no one around to claim them as their own.

You turn down one of the many alleyways, running your fingertips along the surface of the paint on the walls, which has somehow retained its luster, despite flaking away as soon as you touch it. The hollers of the many merchants filled the air in unison with the sharp voices of potential customers. Slowly the scent of food both sweet and savory fills your nose as you make another turn. You pass on the many offerings of rose jellies and tagines, despite the alluring smells tempting you to stop awhile. There will be plenty of time after this little deal is settled to indulge in the finer things.

The walls are hung with carpets and bunches of coloured string. The mosaic-patterned steps leading through a doorway and up to a ladies hammam have been detailed with tiny wrought iron boxes.

Occasionally, you stop and wonder exactly what some of these objects are being sold for. And to whom.

Terminology used in the story:
Souk = Marketplace; bazaar.
Hammam = Public Spa Bath
