information

Horatius was born as a unicorn in the magical land of the Feywilds where magic and life are one. His eyes were immediately graced with the beauty and wonder of the world, and he soon grew attached to all things beautiful. As a being of power and grace, he was rather fond of himself and would often tend to himself to keep up his self perceived charm. As a colt he would constantly bathe to keep his coat shiny and soft and he would add flowers to his hair. If he were to find a pool of water, he would gaze and marvel at himself for hours on end.His mother tried her best to teach him the ways of unicorns and the world, despite his distractions. Unicorns were proud and intelligent creatures tasked to become guardians of certain areas of importance to the Summer Court. When he was old enough, he was to fulfill that role and serve Queen Titania herself. It was a honorable role to the unicorns, who call Queen Titania the mother of the Feywilds and who would protect them should they ever need her powers. Horatius listened and learned, but still he found his focus lacking. He dare not say it out loud for word against the Queen is unorthodox at best, but he believes he were the most beautiful being in all of the Feywild... nay, the entire universe.

It became time when Horatius was given the land he was to become guardian of. It was an attractive area of forest with a lake in the middle. When the sun sets, the trees are painted in pinks and the water becomes iridescent. Horatius was elated that his territory was so beautiful, and even more so that it would accentuate his own beauty should any creature stumble upon it. It was also an easy job, where Horatius only had to ward off malicious creatures should they come to the area. Other unicorns had much higher priority occupations guarding powerful places of worth to the Queen. Perhaps they saw him inept to do such a thing, but it mattered not to Horatius.

One day, while Horatius was resting amongst the bank of the river, he heard laughter. Curious, he walked over to find two young Eladrins playfully swimming and splashing in the water. They didn't seem to have malicious intent, so Horatius simply observed them. Other than the common fey creatures who live in the forest, he doesn't come by company frequently. It did not take long for the Eladrins to notice they had company. Curious themselves, they crept closer to the unicorn and introduced themselves.

They were sisters. The older one was named Eimhir, and the younger was named Ceana. Horatius gave his own name, and the three of them spent the rest of the day chatting away, as if they were friends for a long time. The Eladrins would gush at him about his beauty, and he became so charmed that he would return the compliments, which he had never done before. He allowed them to comb through his mane and play with it with braids and flowers while they gossiped about the latest news among the Feywild. By nighttime, the Eladrins had to return home, so they said their goodbyes.

Every now and again, the Eladrins would return, and Horatius would welcome them. Like before, they would spend the day gossiping and playing, and when the day retired they would leave. Horatius found himself enjoying their company and would wonder when they would return from day to day. Every time they visited, they were older, but they never stopped acting like they always did with Horatius.

One day, only one of the sisters came. Eimhir walked slowly toward the lake. Horatius thought she looked different, as if she were an entirely different person. Despite that, he was eager for her return and greeted her warmly, asking where her sister was. Her expression darkened, and Horatius's stomach pitted when he realized something was very wrong.

Eimhir admitted that her sister was very sick. Ceana was tricked by a Hag who had deceived her into thinking she could win another's heart. The Hag's words would ring true, but only if Eimhir brought over what the Hag really wanted in the exchange: a unicorn's horn. Until then, Ceana would stay in a deep sleep and slowly deteriorate. Horatius slowly moved back once what Eimhir said sunk in, and he realized why she was there.

Horatius ran, but Eimhir knew magic of her own and was able to entrap him. He used all his strength and magic against her, but to no avail. Horatius was just not as strong of a unicorn as the others were, and Eimhir's determination outmatched his strength. With a remorseful cry, Eimhir removed the horn from Horatius's head. The magic that dripped and spewed from his head tainted her arms and skin where it touched, turning it black. After all, those who take a unicorn's life become cursed. With a blurried gaze, he watched as she ran off, his horn clenched in her arms. His power was waning, and the damage done to his skull was far too great. Horatius did what many fey did on their last breath. He prayed to Queen Titania.

The Queen heard his plea and considered Horatius 's life as it lay in her hands. She asked the court for guidance, as they knew the unicorn better than her. They all agreed that they never quite liked Horatius. He was a poor excuse of a unicorn who didn't take his responsibilities very seriously. He was also vain, mostly focusing on himself rather than the good of the others. However, they also expressed condolences, as Horatius did not deserve the wrongful death he was inflicted. The Queen took all of this into account, and blessed Horatius with the second chance of life. On one condition, however...

Horatius awakened suddenly. He was in a forest, but it lacked the magical wonder and prowess he was used to. He also realized that he was no longer a unicorn. He was filled with anguish and shame, grieving for what was once his beautiful body. He also noticed that magic rang in his body, and he was able to transform into a multitude of critters. This gave him hope that he could regain his magic back, and thus vowed that he would find a way to become a unicorn once again and then return to the Feywild.

Horatius, plan in tow, was oblivious to the Queen's wishes. She had turned him into a human and sent him to the Material plane to teach him a couple of lessons, including humbleness and empathy. Whatever Horatius does with his second chance, however, is up to him.
