Like all African Wild Dog pups, Rachael was born with both ears flopped forwards. This was nothing unusual. What was unusual was the colour of her eyes. While all other dogs in the pack had brown or golden eyes, Rachael was born with ice blue-coloured eyes. Having been born to the two most omega dogs (lowest possible rank) in the pack, her unique eyes were only going to make life on the African Savanna more difficult for her as she grew older.

When the pups were 12 weeks old, all of their ears were standing erect. All except for Rachael. Only one of her ears stood erect while the top half of her right ear remained flopped forward. Rachael's further divergence from normalcy within the pack only solidified her place as an omega dog by the time she reached her first year.

As an omega, Rachael was always being picked on by her superiors. She was the last to eat, even behind the new generation of pups. By the time the rest of her pack had finished their meal, usually just the prey's skeleton was all that was left behind or if she was lucky, a chunk of meat that she had to share with the flies.

Rachael was also left to stay behind when the pack members were off hunting. Often clumsy and not very coordinated, the rest of her pack thought it would be best to ban her from participating in the hunt. This didn't bother Rachael though, during this time, she would wander away from the den in search of companions to play with who wouldn't nip at her ear or poke fun at her eyes.

One day, Rachael wandered further away from her den than usual and just as she realized that she was lost, a blue butterfly flew above her head and landed on her ear. Startled and having never seen a butterfly before, she frantically tried to swat it away with her paws. However, when she realized that the butterfly was harmless, she couldn't help but notice that the butterfly was very blue, similar to the colour of her eyes.

So she began chasing the butterfly playfully until it lead her to a seemingly empty campsite. Unaware of this campsite and intently focused on the butterfly, she climbed onto a table to gain access to her new friend. Just as she was about to make contact with the butterfly, Rachael tripped and fell off the table and landed in an open trunk filled with soft clothing, which braced her fall. However, the momentum of her fall rattled the trunk and the lid fell shut before she could get out.

Rachael waited for what seemed like hours before she finally saw sunlight again. As the light shone brightly into the trunk, it took a while for her pupils to adjust to the incoming light. By the time she could see clearly again, there were two faces looking down at her. One of the individuals was a canine like Rachael, except she had pink fur and wings. The other one was very different. She had golden hair coming out of the top of her head but the rest of her body was hairless. She too was covered in pink and looked very confused to find Rachael in her trunk. Rachael soon learned that she was considered to be a "human".

"What do we have here, Chrystal?" she asked her companion.

The Jollin said nothing but continued to stare curiously at Rachael. The human picked Rachael up and placed her on the ground and grinned.

"It's so cute. I've never seen one before. Oh well, you're free to go. Don't get stuck in other people's belongings again!"

Frightened and confused, Rachael immediately darted off in the opposite direction and hid behind a rock. She watched them from behind the rock until the human and Chrystal had packed up and started to depart. Just as she was about to head back to the den, the same blue butterfly she had met earlier trailed by and landed on Chrystal's tail. Rachael desperately wanted to chase after it again, but instinct told her to be wary of the outsiders.

"You're free to come along if you want." the human called after Rachael.

So she did.

Life after the Savanna has proven to be quite a change for Rachael. Wary of her new pack at first, Rachael stuck close to the human for almost a month, much to Chrystal's dismay. She is still used to eating only raw meat and likes to sleep outside. Although Rachael misses her pack and the warm scorching sun beaming down on her, the changes in her life have been somewhat of a comfort to her when she becomes lonely.

Loneliness, however, is a rare thing for Rachael. The butterfly that started this adventure has now become her best friend and she now has a new set of friends that she enjoys terrorizing. Things she likes to do to terrorize her new pack includes: giving noogies, biting at their legs, ears, and tails, stealing their shiny objects and chasing them like they're her prey. Still very wild, most of them don't know how to handle her mischievous nature.

It's hard to say if Rachael will ever return to the wild. There are too many new things to see and explore and it seems like for now, she's perfectly content with her life away from the African Savanna. Which basically means: getting into trouble and being very naughty.
