Stitched With Love

Bradley missed a lot of school while he was growing up, he caught just about every cold. The first few years he'd lay in bed with soup and watch television. As he got older, and still constantly sick, his parents wanted him to do something productive with all his down time. So he would scavenge for a bit of food one day, and mop the kitchen floor the next. During his rummaging one day, he got pricked by something sharp. Bradley turned around to see what had gotten him, and was entranced by the needle shining back at him. He plucked it up, placed it in his ruck-sack and trekked home.

On days where Bradley's siblings also stayed home with colds, Bradley was in charge of entertaining them. Their family didn't have much money to spread around, and certainly not on toys for the children. He and his siblings would gather scrap cardboard and paint themselves dolls. Many evenings were spent scripting shows they would present out of their cardboard box television.

While out one day, he found an old sock in a yard. He dragged it home; ideas bursting in his head. On Saturday, after breakfast, Bradley dashed out the door to the craft store. They threw away old supplies sometimes. He looked around the dumpster, and found scrap stuffing, and small bag of buttons. A few of them were cracked. "A silly reason to throw out such beautiful buttons", Bradley thought, "but now I get to use them!"

He skittered home and got to working on his crafts. A few hours later he had three toys lined up on the table before him. His sister, Tamar, walked up and inspected his creations.

"Those are so cute!" she exclaimed.
"Would you like one?"
Oh, yes yes yes!" Tamar responded as she hopped in place.

Bradley handed her a toy bunny. "I'm thinking, if I can find enough supplies, I might start making them for the pets at Adopt R Us. Do you think they would like them?"

"That's a splendid idea, Brad! They would love them!" Tamar skipped to a corner of the living room and started playing with her new doll. Bradley turned back to the toys on the table and said, "Yeah, that's what I'll do. Back to the craft store I go!"
