ISEUL

Morning dew, a cool breeze. Baek Iseul is content, walking along the Han River path with her beloved Pomeranian, Gom. It's early in the morning and school doesn't start for a couple of hours. In this moment, suspended in time, it felt like the world was hers alone.

The last thing she expected that morning was to run in to Kim Taewon. She supposed he would be the early bird type. Even in his Adidas sports clothes, he still looked neat and well-presented - just as he did when he wore his school uniform.

Iseul couldn't put her finger on exactly what it was that drew her to him. They weren't in the same classes, but they often saw each other between mathematics, Korean, art. He would usually be with Minjun, his best friend. Where Taewon was traditional, Minjun was rebellious. Unlike Taewon's unblemished face, Minjun always had dark circles under his eyes from late night shifts at the convenience store his parents owned.

All the same, the pair were as close as brothers. The only thing they didn't agree on was tennis, in which Minjun was a sore loser and Taewon was an effortless professional. Why Iseul had observed all of this, she couldn't say; nonetheless, she would soon find herself far more involved with the two boys than she could have imagined when she daydreamed, like an astronomer whose sky was the school corridors.

One minute, Taewon was jogging towards Iseul. In an instant, he vanished. Iseul blinked before searching for his figure. Kim Taewon was nowhere to be seen. Did she dream it? No, she wasn't the type. She would have to challenge him at school. What magic, what science was this?
