"Boat!" he would declare, pointing to a tree. "Airplane!" he would say, pointing at another.
His poor parents thought he was simply delusional, until one day, when Chompsticks took a giant bite out of the maple tree in their front yard.
"Man!" he yelled excitedly as the tree came tumbling down, luckily missing their humble abode. His parents rushed to his side, hoping that their son had not been hurt. To their complete surprise however, not only was their son completely unharmed, but he was busy playing war with a wooden toy soldier.
"Where did you get that?" demanded his astonished parents. Chomp simply pointed towards the tree now settled sideways across their driveway.
Flabbergasted, they dragged him to the backyard and asked him to show them what he did. Three times he declared an object: "Bracelet! Bowl! Mask!" and three times he chomped his jaws around a tree. The three trees fell in turn, and in their places were the objects Chompsticks had described.
Chompsticks had a gift. He could "see" an item in each and every tree; all it took was a quick bite for his jaws to create the unique wooden item hidden inside (leveling the tree in the process). Thus began Chomp's very lucrative career as a lumberjack. Each chomp left him with a distinctive item that he could sell on the side, as well as with a downed tree that could be sent to the lumber mill for processing. The only downside was that Chomp could only make one small item from each tree, and he was quickly running out of lumber to bite.
Until one day, Chomp got the call. Explorers in a remote mountain range had come across gigantic trees, and they needed Chompsticks help! Some little creatures called Woeismes had made the area their home, but unfortunately, pesticides in the soil had caused the trees to grow at an exponential rate. The gigantic trees were blocking all sunlight from reaching the little monsters! Other lumberjacks had tried and failed to level the trees in an attempt to get sunlight to the Woeismes to stop the race from dying out.
Chomp flew to the scene, desperate to bite some new wood. What he saw when he arrived however, was a huge surprise! Tables, everywhere! Chomp began to salivate with excitement. These trees were so big that he could make tables out of them! Immediately Chomp got to work, biting the trees down, creating marvelous tables, and saving the Woeismes from absolute destruction.
Chompsticks had a gift. And the little Woeismes were so very grateful.
