Loppy here, I'm half rabbit half dog. At one point we were separate. The dog part of me is a Labrador Terrier mix who was named Sammy and the rabbit part of me is a Lop Ear who was named Peter.I guess that's why I have so much energy and love to talk a lot. Many who meet me say I can be quite hyper sometimes. We were both rescued when very young from a shelter by a small little girl with long, thick brown hair with beautiful hazel eyes and long eyelashes. She always smelled like coconut and an array of different flowers. Sammy was already in the picture when Peter was brought home. If I remember correctly, the little girl was seven when Peter was brought home from the shelter. Anyway, we lived in this big robin egg blue house with a big grassy front yard with little shrubs and flowers aligning the cement walkway where the little girl always liked to play hop scotch before watering the plants. On the front porch there was a brown wicker couch and on hot days we sat there with the little girl having a nice afternoon snack in the shade.
We lived there with the little girl's father who was a scientist and worked in a lab not far from the house. He was such a kind man. He was very peaceful and always thinking of others before himself. He wasn't one of those "mad" scientists just a tall, lean, green eyed man named Tom with a unique day job. Hey! That rhymes hehe aren't I a funny creature. Anyhow, it was pretty obvious that the little girl was the most important thing in this man's life. We were one happy family. One day Tom was working at home. It was weird because he never works from home. Maybe it was because of the weather. It was cold and pouring outside and it was probably too dangerous to be driving. I'm not really sure what the reason was. The little girl was in her room coloring, Sammy was sprawled out on the living room floor, and Peter was curled up in his little bed fast asleep in the den. Tom was heating up some vegetable soup on the stove and the whole house had this great smell where you just knew it was a hearty home cooked meal. Tom was also doing some work in the kitchen as well. He was working with some chemicals and whatever else scientists use. All of a sudden there was a loud crack of glass and Sammy ran into the kitchen as fast as lightning and noticed Tom was on the floor picking up bits and pieces of glass and throwing water over the fire that was slowly growing on the stove. He must have broke a container with some type of chemical in it because it had a smell similar to gas and household cleaners. Sammy ran to Peter and picked him up carrying him in his mouth and rushed back to the kitchen to go get Tom who was still trying to put the fire out. In a panic trying to make the fire go away more chemicals fell off the counter and splashed on the fire. I think some of the chemicals actually splashed on Sammy and Peter too. Everything happened so fast so I'm not all that sure.
The fire was spreading and Tom couldn't seem to put it out. It spread so much it burned to the floor and under the stove and then BOOM! We heard a loud bang. Tom freaked out and ran upstairs to get the little girl. I guess there were chemicals under the sink otherwise the bang would not have happened. Sammy was still holding Peter in his mouth as he lay there on the floor. They were in a huge cloud of smoke with the kitchen floor sopping wet with different chemicals and who knows what. Sammy had glass on his feet and a cut on his head and I think Peter was knocked out since he was pretty non responsive. When Tom came downstairs with the little girl she saw us in the kitchen and ran over to us and slipped on the floor. She broke quite a lot of bones and Tom had to carry her out. It was too dangerous for anyone to come into the house so I'm sure that's why Sammy and Peter weren't rescued. Plus, it was pretty late at night and too dark for anyone to see anything anyway. By the time Tom came back to the house the whole thing had burned to ashes. Tom sifted through the ashes and saw a bunny tail and dug it up from under the ashes. It turned out that that Sammy and Peter had morphed together and created a new character (me). Tom was too afraid to even touch me. He thought that all the chemicals had made me diseased or something and he couldn't believe his eyes. He bent down and told me that the little girl was in the hospital and is doing well and would be out soon. He also told me that he thought I was dangerous and that no one could have me as a pet and I would need to be disposed of. Tom told me he was sorry for what had happened and wished it didn't but, there was nothing else he could do. So, Tom said goodbye to me and got in his car and drove off.
That was the last I saw of Tom and the little girl. I'm not sure what he told her about what happened to Sammy and Peter but, I hope he left her with only good thoughts. The next few nights I slept outside in the cold and it even rained one night. I still had the glass in my foot and was limping pretty badly. One day a nice girl saw me hiding in an alley and she picked me up. I was surprised that she wasn't getting sick or wasn't even afraid of me. That's when I knew Tom was wrong. I was not diseased at all and I had just turned into a new creature. The girl nursed my wounds and loved me and she reminded me so much of the little girl. The girl who found me named me Loppy and this is who I am today. I am a happy, healthy, spunky little guy who is living life to the fullest because I am just glad to be alive and have someone to take care of me.
