Magpie. An android with a human brain. Who’d’ve thought it?

M. Daniels, private eye. I still remember the first time I walked into his office. He stared at me like I was a radio—‘til I started talkin’. Told him all about my troubles and woes, how I was wanted by the authorities and the boss of a mega corporation for being a “top secret experiment.” I had run into some trouble with one of the local gangs, had them on my tail, too. Daniels jumped in to save me like he thought he was some kind of hero. And to me, he was.

Since my brain is entirely organic, I suppose I’d be better labeled a cyborg. Daniels still thinks of me as an android, though he tells me I’m more human than most people he’s met. That makes me feel happy.

I might be a machine, but I’ve got feelings. I’m not a toaster. I’m not a radio or a dishwasher or a microwave. I was engineered to feel human emotions, and throughout my life—if you could call it that—I’ve felt sadness, joy, anger. But the most powerful emotion I’ve ever felt has to be … love.
