Experimentation Log

: After years and years of research, planning, and creation, I finally laid down the finishing touches this night's prior on what I hope to be the most amazing development the world's magic has seen in centuries. The machine seemed to be in perfect working condition, with all its pieces in place, but when I went to run it this evening, it seems the conditions were not proper. The rotators whirred and whirred for long, endless minutes, but alas, nothing actually happened, and as the lights began to flicker, I was forced to shut it down. I believe this failure is due to the humidity that has collected from yesterday's storms, so perhaps I will attempt this experiment again when the climate is drier.

: Seeing as it hasn't rained in days, I felt it safe to repeat my previous experiment, and success ensued! It was only partial, however, for though the beam lurched from the machine's scope, I had miscalculated its projection rate. The energy is so volatile, that the beam, though guided by the machine's prongs, is hardly straight, and it missed my Flack subject entirely and struck one of my storage cabinets instead. The storage cabinet has been reduced to Dark Dust, and so I am only somewhat glad that it failed to strike my loyal Flack instead. I must make further adjustments.

: Having made the previously mentioned adjustments, I tried again on another night, but with similar results. The beam, still not straight, flung forward from the machine at shaky jerky angles, grazing across the Flack's side and hitting the wall. With the beam weakened by my calibrations, it was not able to penetrate the wall, but I was surprised when it instead bounced off the bricks! Grabbing the Flack, I dove beneath the desk, watching as the beam bounced back and forth like a ball in a tennis match before it at last escaped through an open window and disappeared into the night. Nothing was permanently damaged, though my Flack is growing more and more irritable with me by the day, but I hardly worry, as I have been nurturing the seeds of its brethren...Just in case.

Making more adjustments to the prongs of the machine, I made another attempt, and though the beam flew mostly true today, that pesky little Flack had had enough. It flattened itself against the container, dodging the beam entirely, which struck the wall once more only to fly back towards ME instead! I was alarmed and jerked back, but there was no time to react, and I took the blast to the face in full. Unharmed, but feeling ill, I feared for my health, so I retired early without documenting the night's research. I write to you now not as the Celinox I had been before, but instead as this bizarre...Magenta-colored creature. I feel no pain, but my appearance is so vastly different, and so alien that I cannot identify my species at all. These hands will take some getting used to, but I am uninjured and the research must continue. I will call myself Experiment #69012, in honor of the Flack, subject 69012, who escaped last night.

Seems that all good things must come to an end, right? Well, after another attempt to zap a freshly picked Flack from my garden, it seems that machine has tuckered itself out from the last experiments and nothing happened. It fizzled and buzzed at me, but did little else, leaving me scratching my head in confusion. After further investigation, it turns out that the cause is a handful of burned wires, and look at me, caught without any copper! I must make another trip to the cities to replenish my supplies. After that, I will repair the machine, and we will begin anew.
