Skits is a nervous, mute Kumos. He wound up on my Subetan home doorstep, after a heavy thunderstorm rolled through the area overnight. With no idea as to where he came from or if he belonged to anyone, we took the frightened pup into the family, hoping he'd relax and feel at ease.

If by relaxing, I meant that the anxiety-ridden Kumos only fell asleep after retching five times, an unfortunate reaction when he met Elfric's equally-bitter arctic chirrup, Jasper ("that bird minion is the devil', as Nanaba would put it).

Skits' anxiety disorder requires him to be on daily medication, which has alleviated most of his symptoms. Heâ€™s able to concentrate when he works on puzzles and games. Heâ€™s less flighty around the other two canines, and he even seems to have a budding romance with Nanaba especially.

The medication does have a couple of negative side effects, such as voracious, insatiable hunger. Subsequently, heâ€™s developed an addiction to apples. Yes, anything and everything related to apples.

But I suppose an apple addiction is far better than his anxiety attacks or the nervous puking spells.

The only other downside with the pills is that they provide little relief for Skits' fear of thunderstorms. He will sprint from room to room, in a rather spastic, unorthodox manner. When the thunder booms louder, he seeks refuge in the bathroom, cowering behind the toilet. And the pitiful, fearful on his face speaks louder than if he were to have an actual voice.
The only remedy Iâ€™ve discovered is to sing Art Garfunkelâ€™s folksong â€˜Bright Eyesâ€™ to him. He doesn't completely relax, but his shivering ceases.
