Once upon a time

They seemed like the perfect match. She a beautiful gentlewoman, he a talented scholar. She aspired to be the perfect wife, he wanted someone to dote on him. Her family is rich, he needed money. She was born into nobility, he desperately wanted to climb the social ladder. She finds pleasure in being courted, he had no reason not to court her. He got her pregnant and they got married - much to her family's displeasure. Everything went according to (his) plan. He treated her well, and her family got him into the high society. Everything seemed perfect. Yin and Yang, her and him.

Things goes south

There was no happy ever after for her. Soon after their hasty marriage, her parents was caught up in a political scandal, and were executed without trial. Then his true colours started to show. Merely one month after her parent's passing, he brought home the other woman - and their son. Unbeknown to her, he married that woman in his home town. Three years before they met. His true love. Grieving and heartbroken, she kept her posture straight, walked out of the room and jumped off the well in the courtyard. Afraid that Marcia's spirit will haunt them, he and his true love fished her body out and disposed of her at a mass grave.

New beginning

Her body may be dead, but her unreconciled negative emotions stopped her from passing on to the afterlife. All her life she has tried her best to be the perfect daughter, perfect wife. Never once was she allowed to let her guard down. There were countless things she wanted to do but never did. Oh regrets, regrets.
Conveniently, when her body was dumped at the mass grave, an injured fox laid close by, breathing its last breath. As its soul exited, hers drifted in, its memories slowly replacing hers. And her new life begun.

Living dead

This is the story of Marcia. Neither fully dead nor alive, fox nor human. She lost most of her human memories, all she have left is a strong desire to be free. There is this strong desire to live outside societal rules, to be able to do anything she wants, anytime. She is going to be happy, even if it means that everyone else isn't. Oh, the joy of that.
