INTERVIEW; CASE #2013-004: Jingfei Chao, SUSPECT

HLJ: Time of interview start 1213

HLJ: JC, you are here on counts of prostitution, illegal drug taking and selling and in connection with case 2013-001 [pause], how do you plead?

JC: I don't, I want my Lawyer.

HLJ: The information for the Lawyer you presented to us in inaccurate

JC: It's accurate, I talked to the [omitted] last weekend!

HLJ: Please refrain from using course language during the interview [pause] The Lawyer has made it clear that you are no longer his client and that he does not wish to represent you [pause] we could offer you alternative legal aid, or you could answer the questions I have for you and then you may leave. You are under caution, but not under arrest at this time

JC: For [omitted] sake [pause 2 seconds] what questions? I ain't done anything

HLJ: We believe you are involved in a case regarding [name omitted]. As said individual was murdered whilst he was visiting your establishment, the last time he was seen alive, we believe that you have something to do with this. We found hard evidence in the form of [omitted for records, please see report #213 for this case]. Why were you in posession of this evidence?

JC: I didn't kill [omitted], the [omitted] was a weirdo [pause] a freak! [omitted] punched me in the face so my natural reaction was to punch him back. Wouldn't you do the same?

HLJ: We found no evidence of bruising on his face or chest. In your original statement with officer [redacted] at the scene, you claimed to punch him in the face or chest, you couldn't remember which

JC: Truth was I punched him where it hurt the most, in his [omitted]

HLJ: Do you use the alternative name China Ling for your work?

JC: What? Never heard of an [omitted] stage name?

JC: I'm not saying a [omitted] thing more. Get my [omitted] lawyer!

CASE #2013-001: Jingfei Chao, REPORT NOTES

Victim 001 was reported missing originally by his wife, and a second time by his peers are work. Although they believed him to be on a work related trip, they had got word he was back in town. However, when he didn't arrive Victim 001's wife filed a missing person report. Although she followed procedures, this did not go into the system until 72 hours after he was missing, due to lack of evidence supporting the fact that Victim 001 was in town.

Jingfei Chao, alias China Ling, was apparently seen by an eye witness with Victim 001, in District 12. District 12 is well known for gambling, prostitution and drugs and it appeared that Victim 001 was under the influence of alcohol during the meeting. The eye witness also reported the two kissing, before he walked into a building with her.

The last known location Victim 001 was in was: District 12 in an unmarked building.

Victim 001 was recovered on the 2nd of January, 2013 and from wounds inflicted, it appears that the murderer tried to cut up the body. Please see case #2013-001-MER for the full report on wounds inflicted. Cause of death was asphyxiation. On his person he was carrying a wallet (no money or cards inside, only a picture of his wife), a bit of loose change and a train card for the subway between District 12 and District 23.

Current case status: Open

Police have issued a report asking for any information on this case. Jingfei Chao will be questioned a second time and provided with a Lawyer. Currently, she is the only suspect in this case.

Something about China Ling is appealing. It's not the bolshie way she carries herself, it's not the layers upon layers of makeup she swears by every single day. It's not even the smell of fried food and disinfectant, masked only slightly by a cheap, unbranded, knock-off perfume. No, it's none of those things.

China is a woman who you should find unappealing, ugly in a way.

She stomps on anyone to get her own way. A selfish woman. Someone you wouldn't want to associate with. Her selfish nature and her laziness, lead you to believe that she is the sort of woman who should not exist, let alone be living near you.

She will occasionally ask for some money from you, offer you a quick ride or a quick hit. She knows a guy she says. You shake your head no, you cross the street if you see her coming towards you. You look away; you pretend to talk on your phone. She doesn't get the message though- she whispers that you're handsome, or beautiful, and that nothing is out of bounds.

None of that is appealing, no. But to you, there is something. Something you simply cannot figure out. You see her in the same spot every single day, give or take a few. She smiles sometimes, but not often. Maybe what is appealing is the tragedy that this woman lives in. Poor, crippled with debts, you know the type. It's a shame, really. She could have been beautiful once, but not now.
