Daniel is a popinjay, a fop, a dandy. Born into wealth, he had the privilege of an education some only dream of, yet never bothered to make something of himself as he was rich enough that he didn't have to. His teenage years and early twenties were marked by frivolous spending and cavorting, and he was often seen with a girl hanging from his arm (sometimes two).

Meaningless indulgences get boring after a while, however, and tired of his thin existence, Daniel longed to make something of himself after all. He started by leafing through the driest, most academic-looking publication he could get his hands on and stumbled upon the work of a certain professor Russell, who was conveniently in need of funding. Convinced this was the ticket, he vowed to prove he could do something significant without leaning too heavily on his stash. (Well, of course he needed to invest a little to do anything at all. And never mind the fact that even a beaten-up airship is a bit of a luxury. Oh and even the poor are willing to indulge in finery once in a while, right? ... right?)
