The story of a tiger...and his sad destiny.

I was born into the wild. I remember the smell of the wet morning air, play time with my siblings, learning to chase crickets and small birds with my Mom in the grass… I was always a very playful and curious cub. I tried learning everything I could from my Mom. I followed her quietly in her steps, careful not to rustle the dry leaves or branches below our feet. We crouched down, ears low, and finally, just when the time was right, I would watch her while she took down prey with a swift, fatal bite to the neck. I admired her and aspired to be as swift as she was when I grew up.

I remember every detail of the fateful day that took me forever away from home, away from my family, away from the wild. We had just woken up from an afternoon nap, that morning's meal still on my lips. I yawned and stretched my claws out in front of me, letting out a tired yawn. My Mom was standing over us, her ears perked, listening. I rubbed my head against her, but she made no acknowledgement of my presence, her focus was on something in the distance. I rolled over, playfully patting at her chin. She let out a low growl, pinning her ears close to her head. I perked up, knowing it meant danger. I heard my brother and sister cry, and before I could react, there was darkness. No matter how I fought I couldn't break free from the darkness. My Mother's growls and cries echoed in the distance before I could no longer hear her.

I was in the darkness for a very long time, it felt like an eternity...when suddenly a bright light burned into my eyes. I closed them, trying to take in the light. I growled in anger at it, as if it would stop the burning. I blinked, and froze when I was taken by the scruff of my neck. I could only go limp in the hands of these evil beings. My brother and sister were nowhere to be found...neither was Mother. I was passed around in that room, looked over from every side and then promptly stuffed back into the darkness. I cried out for my Mom, for my family, and for my freedom. No one listened, I was alone.

Who knows how long it's been since I lost them. I've grown from a tiny cub to a large "beast", or so these beings call me. I spend my days trapped behind these gray bars. The wind smells stale and the food is even worse. I can no longer stretch my legs in the open wild, and I have only this tiny cage and the bones of my prey to keep me company. Sometimes, they place other tigers in my territory. There's not even enough space for me, much less another, so I'm sure to let them know they're not welcome. They never stay long. If I ever manage to get a hold of these...beings, they're going to regret it. They're going to regret ever taking me away from my family, away from the wild. I will never give up, I refuse to be in this cage for the rest of my life, no matter the cost.
