...I have loved the stars too fondly

to be fearful of the night

The brothers surveyed the bedroom. The room was cold, dark and a red hue cast over the room due to the moonlight streaming in through the blood red sheer net curtains. Dust covered every surface in the small bedroom; however, unlike the rest of the decrepit, run down house, this bedroom was otherwise immaculate. Books, dolls and other trinkets befitting for an 8 year old girl were all neatly stored in a large wooden bookcase. The desk still held books in a pile - one open where the little girl was last reading. The little girl's hairbrush sat in-between the books.

The older brother strolled over to the desk and picked up the hairbrush perplexed. "It's gold," he mused looking at it while turning it all around to get a better look.

"You don't say," his younger brother remarked rolling his eyes walking over to him taking the hairbrush off him. "These upperclass families bought their children extravagant things like gold gilded hairbrushes anything to show off their wealth and social standing. We're talking about the early 1900s here."

"You don't say," the older brother quipped mimicking his brother's snarky response. He had read as much of the history of this old Victorian home as his brother had. "Ugh, let's get out of here. This room's not super creepy at all," he said eyeing the porcelain doll with curly chestnut blonde hair.

"Okay. We'll take these books and things back to the motel with us. We can have a better look there where the little girl's dolls can't scare you."

"The plan's finally working," Prudence squealed having transformed into flesh and blood. "We can finally track down the Gods and don't have to be worried about the curse turning us back into toys after two hours. I didn't think it would ever happen! We are so lucky they left when they did. A few more minutes and they would have seen it. How would we explain that to them! Finally Thomas, they finally took the book and the hairbrush! Thomas? Thomas, don't just stand there. Come on! Answer me," Prudence huffed.

"This is good. We can travel to Delphi tonight." she thought out loud.

Clearly Thomas wasn't paying any attention to her.

Thomas continued staring at the wooden desk in the corner of the room while Prudence nattered away. Not one thought stays in that girl's head, Thomas thought to himself. If she thinks it, out her mouth it comes. He chucked, thinking how polar opposites he and Prudence were. While Prudence could talk the hind legs off a donkey, he was reversed, shy. He didn't see the point in talking for the sake of it. If he had something to say, something to add to a conversation, he would say it. He wasn't one to talk for no reason.

Thomas's laughter caught Prudence's attention. "Good! You're with me. Let's get out of here, quick. We've got a lot of ground to cover. We should probably check in with that grumpy old sheeta while we're out too. He probably thinks we've deserted him, left him to face the consequences himself. Oh, Thomas, we have to fix this. We just have to."

"We will, Prue," Thomas said trying to reassure the worked up little kora. The last thing he wanted to deal with was her tears. "Let's be having us then, we'll head east to Delphi first like you said. I hear that water deity isn't too bad. They're having a nice summer out east, calm cool waters. That sounds nice to me. I'll be able to stretch my legs a bit on the sand." She's not doing that annoying breathing thing anymore, he thought to himself. It must have worked.
