She's spent decades of training and first hand experience memorizing the position of the stars. Wherever her ship takes her the sky is a map, a blueprint of information, each pinpoint of light was information, a code to be read in part of locational puzzle to be solved.

After years of reading the sky instead of gazing at it, it can be hard to remember the beauty of the cosmos. That's why she loves the paintings, sculptures, and other artworks that she collects in her personal quarters. The abstract nebulas and fictitious galaxies are pure beauty. They're a symbol of why she wanted to be a captain- in the swirls of color and darkness, she sees mystery and excitement. There is nothing like staring into the sky and knowing absolutely nothing about what you see.

The golden rose tattoos were a gift from her husband celebrating their twentiet anniversary, fifteen years of being a starship captain, and her 48th birthday. She's always loved and appreciated oddly colored roses, and keeps a few of them around her personal quarters to make them feel homey and comfortable.
