The Traveling Mage

James Woodfield - better known by his childhood nickname Pecan - was born and raised in Goldcrest, a small town in Halaith Province. Even at a young age, he showed extraordinary magical prowess. He was a somewhat spoiled only child, and his parents were happy to provide him with ways to grow his skills - from private tutors to summers away at special classes in Llyn. By the time he was a teenager, he was considered one of the top mages in all of Halaith. This should have presented him with endless opportunities for greatness, but his parents decided to set him up with their own idea for his plans: they answered a request from Owen Fremont, current owner and president of Fremont Energies, looking for a magical tutor for his son and heir, Thatcher. When he was seventeen, Pecan's family relocated to Cydry for what his parents saw as the start of a prestigious - and lucrative - career.

Pecan and Thatcher were wary of each other at first, with Pecan finding Thatcher to be a rich, spoiled brat and Thatcher having never encountered someone with Pecan's boisterous personality before. However, after a rough start the two became rather inseparable. Pecan saw great potential in Thatcher, both as a mage and as an individual person that could stand apart from his family's name and history. Friendship turned into love, and the two spent many months in an attempt to keep their relationship a secret from Thatcher's overbearing, traditionalist father.

The longer Pecan worked with Thatcher, the more he learned about Fremont Energies and the profound effect it had on mages. He started off slow with presenting his reasonings to Thatcher, hoping he could convince him to take the company in a different direction - and maybe put more focus on his own magic as well. Just when he thought he had the last of Thatcher's doubts chipped away, Thatcher unexpectedly turned on him. They had a terrible fight about the entire situation that ended with Thatcher telling Pecan that he never wanted to see him again. In a fit of anger, Pecan took this rather literally: he packed his belongings and left Cydry, swearing he would never come back.

Pecan has spent the past ten years or so traveling all around Pridd, finding mages affected by their work at Fremont Energies. He teaches mages how to slowly build up their ability to draw magic and cast again. He also provides guidance and training for young mages, teaching them that there are opportunities for magic users out there besides working for Fremont Energies. He has earned a reputation not only for his incredible skill as a mage and teacher, but also for his rather long list of bedroom partners. He is also quite well known for his sharp tongue when it comes to speaking about his ex's ever-growing company - and as Thatcher takes over more and more company from his father, Pecan's words grow in bitterness.

He has no shortage of people requesting his help, but a letter from a man named Seth Hobbes catches his attention more than any others. Seth, after an extremely short employment at Fremont Energies, has burnt out his ability to use magic almost entirely. Curious about Seth and the quick, horrible toll filling mage cells took on his body and abilities, Pecan decides to cast aside his old promise to never return to Cydry and do just that. Here, not only is he reunited with his childhood best friend Walnut, but forced to face his old boyfriend - perhaps the only man he ever truly loved - and fight against him and everything Fremont Energies represents.
