Design Oatmeal a Home: Voting!

Oatmeal in a Raincoat Plushie

Voting is officially open for Design Oatmeal A Home! We’re trying a new voting system for user contests where you have a few choices. You can vote VOTE UP or VOTE DOWN for as many entries as you want or skip an entry to come back to later! Voting up is like casting a vote for an entry like previous entries while voting down is just you not voting for that particular entry.

Voting will end on November 15th at 11:59pm!

Prizes will be available at the end, this includes prizes for submitting an entry and voting!

You've voted on every single entry, good job!

Whew.. took me 2 days but I wanted to actually take my time reading everything this time <3 Good luck people

You've voted on every single entry, good job!

Phew finally finished. :) There were some awesome entries in this contest! Great job to everyone and good luck!

PopCornea

were names not allowed on entries? some submitted works have been edited.

I gave upvotes to creative effort and time put into it. It might've been because of your concept (both drawn and worded, not just how pretty it turned out) or your medium.
There were entries that looked like the first page of goat shelters on google images. Logomeal, tents, boxes with windows got real old. I picked the ones that considered Oatmeal's location and lifestyle. Things like fireplaces and doorknobs certain furniture are human access.

Maeow

ow i forgot about these ugly smileys >:/
0

Maeow

why y'all hate ms paint :'(

finally finished voting o/ it was hard to only upvote my favorites because a lot of entry was super cute

You've voted on every single entry, good job!

Woot! Good luck all ^_^
0

CakeMoose

I'm just sitting here, after going through all of those entries, hoping something actually suitable for a goat will actually win. So many of these (that weren't junky images already mentioned) look like play houses for humans or toy dolls :(
2

Reaper

"Your design can be drawn traditionally, digitally, or you can build a 3-D model."

Man...had I known that was not at all the truth about entries, I'd have entered too. I assumed that the stated conditions were requirements - but clearly not. I could've slapped in any screenshot of any image and gotten the contest entry prize /sigh
6

omnibless

that's odd, voted another day and today there was more but only 2?

@Amber - I was just pulling your leg ;) So didn't realise we were getting an item for voting though, don't know where my head is at lately ^_^;
1

Amber

@lull omg you're going to get a cool item for voting THAT IS ENOUGH gosh
0

Tserel

oh boy here we go again
0

Deja

Kind of wished I entered. Just didn't have the time.

That was a lot of clicking and slow page loading to get through all of those whooh!

@Amber - "You've voted on every single entry, good job!" No title achievement for community spirit?! ;P

Those of you talking about copyright law -- it's sad that you've been conditioned to think that just copying an image off of Google for a Subeta contest is a violation of copyright. Our corporate overlords want you to THINK that everything's copyrighted and you can't do or use anything, ever, but it's not true.

These "copyrighted" photos of oatmeal canisters are protected by Fair Use because they are not being used to make money or sell anything or to rip off art. They're being used as, well, basically satire. If you wanted to take the images and sell your own oatmeal with them, you obviously couldn't. But to submit them to a dumb contest? It's fine.

People are so tragically cautious and terrified nowadays, it's so sad. DX

@Holden

Oatmeal is a boy per the description of several of his items
Deluxe Oatmeal Beanbag
Oatmeal Approves Sticker
Thank You Note From Oatmeal
and the contest announcement (probably among other places).

I was a little surprised more people didn't realize already or at least double check too.
1

Holden

A lot of incongruency to oatmeal's gender! What is it? Are there clues? Does it matter?

Anyway looking forward to the results ?
1

Stiles

The way I'm voting is the obv ones that have like a block or a couple lines/google photo, I downvote and the ones that even if they don't necessarily have the drawing or crafting skills (this is me personally, though I didn't enter), if their description seems well thought out/thoughtful, they get an upvote. For those I see as neither here nor there, I skip. I like that we have options this time.
2

Tribunal

@Jonquil

There were some entries with problems (images that staff couldn't load, for example) that have been fixed. I voted pretty early and I've only had 2 extra, both popped up yesterday.

I can't say for sure no more will pop up, obviously, but I wouldn't expect too many more if any. I'm personally going to check again when we get the reminder that voting is closing, and that'll be it.
0

egg

The amount of oatmeal jokes tho please settle

But wow some of the architectural drawings were outstanding like I seriously am impressed
you go, glen cocos
2

Ravel

Way too many google pictures in there.
2

lull

@Amber - I'm sure your right and it'll all work out ^_^ I just wish I had made more effort to enter but I didn't have time :(
0

Jonquil

I'm a bit confused about voting. Yesterday I voted for every single entry, because I received the message: You've voted on every single entry, good job!

Today, I selected the Oatmeal vote tab. Now I see new pictures and entries that are new today. I didn't see these yesterday (when I thought I was finished because I got the above congratulations message). Are new entries being added everyday? Were there entries that didn't make it into the queue system yesterday? Do we check back each day to vote in case the system is broken?
0

Shiny

You've voted on every single entry, good job!

Whew, that was more entries than I expected. I voted up a lot based on creativity/effort and not solely art skill, but dang there were around ten/twelve entries that were beautiful and I hope we can find out who submitted what when this is over!
1

Michelle

You've voted on every single entry, good job!
Phew!! I thought that was never going to end :
1

Virago

After reading through all the comments here, man, I hope my image wasn't downvoted due to size. It looked to have been resized as soon as I entered it... and looking at it now appears that way still.. ahwell, there was more than 5 i adored that I think should win anyway. I hope they do take elements from the top 5s cause there were definitely some nice ideas for tiny little details...

is there no way to review all the ones you have voted up?
0

Paddy

Quote:
You've voted on every single entry, good job!
That was actually quite refreshing to see some entries that appeared to have lower artistic "skill" than my own (in)ability *grins* I made a point of voting for the ones that had a great concept (going on the image and description), regardless of how it was drawn - some of those ideas are amazing!

Good luck everyone :)
0

Kupy

As many others have said, I voted for those that looked like they actually tried. Some of these are just... well, I bet the users are glad their names aren't attached.
4

Sue

I've voted on effort rather than artistic ability. Many have obviously taken a very short amount of time to complete (or not complete), and others have very obviously put a good amount of time and effort into their depicitions. Good luck everyone who made a good effort! :)
2

Virago

i'm finding it impossible to downvote ANY of them. I simply skip the ones I'm not in love with...and i'm in love with quite a few...
1

Ekocoon

i'm really anxious now because when i submitted the picture didnt show up so i put a link in the description i really hope mine is in there ;-; i worked 4 days on it
0

Cobaltbluetoo

Good luck to all who submitted. Some were really magnificent with fabulous creativity. It's a shame others, who were clearly only in it for the prize, were not weeded out before voting began. As someone else mentioned that pic of an oatmeal can clearly broke copy write laws. I'm amazed that wasn't disqualified by staff. I up voted all that showed effort and originality. I'd love to see the winning entry be uploaded to the site as Oatmeal's actual home.
3

ren

some of these are just uncreative. this has nothing to do with artistic ability, but absolutely no thought was put into some of these. I think I only voted for a handful of people. thank you to those who actually tried.
9

Nova

Voted for all of them, upped 3-5 I think? Those few just blew me away. Also went with good plans, not necessarily art. Some gorgeous art there or projects I knew took ages, but... still, went with things that made sense. Glad to see those who put thought into what a goat needs for happiness. Oatmeal is going to be one excited goat to get out of the rain.
2

Amme

It was really hard to choose! I wish I could vote "Cast" or "Pass" instead since voting down tends to be something that is done when you DISLIKE something, but I didn't truly dislike any of these lovely houses. I tried to vote based on concept and originality, because some people are GREAT at design but not necessarily drawing out houses, etc.! I myself hate drawing architecture and I'm also not too good at design so I was very impressed by these.
0

Chopstick

They're all so cute so far, I just keep voting up. Good luck everyone!
0

Amber

Oh, there will for sure be one to remind people to vote @Tribunal!
0

Tribunal

@Amber

That for sure wouldn't hurt (since some people are apparently having issues), but I meant a reminder to check for any 'new' entries you haven't voted on (like how I just found this one!) Say when/if you guys remind people voting is closing soon on like the 10th or 12th :p
0

Ramby

Good luck everyone
0

humorless

Everyone did so great on their entries! I hate voting some of these down because I love little things about almost every one. But I'm trying to only upvote my absolute favorites so I don't get carried away. I like not having to narrow my selections down to a specific number though.
0

Cream

I feel like the one where someone drew some oatmeal in a bowl was completely against the point of the contest since we were supposed to be drawing a home for a goat not bowls of food.

Idk if it was a lame attempt at being funny or what but yeah....The rest of the entries were what we were asked to do so I don't see why folks are having issues. I'd be more upset that they allowed a drawing of a bowl of oatmeal in over a entry that lacked thought...-cough- cardboard and duct tape for example -cough-
13

Rookie

i get being miffed that random google images have been submitted and made it through to voting, but to be upset cause you think some people's entries aren't drawn well enough/creative enough and so they shouldn't be able to participate? ridiculous. move on. you don't need to vote for the ones you don't like! it's easy.
6

Amber

@lull There are a lot of people voting! I’m sure we’ll have a top winner, and if we end up having a tie we’ll figure something out (even if it means what some people have suggested, which is taking a few elements from the winners). I personally kind of like it this way because you don’t have to narrow your votes to 5-10 like we’ve done for previous things when we’ve had a lot of entries.
1

lull

@Amber - because there is no scale for liking. Some of them I can see have tried hard but don't have skills and others have skills but aren't necessarily what I could pick for oatmeal's home. Plus if I had realised I might have been a bit more choosey. Plus surely there will be lots of entries with the same number of votes.
0

Reykur

Wow. I almost forgot about the contest and then had not much time, so I quickly did something to enter at least something. And still I feel like I did quite well now. o.0

Whatever there are some really nice entries. I don't care for stick figure houses or paint doodles if you can see that there went some effort and actual DESIGN into it. It was a design contest, not a drawing contest after all. A bit of sorting beforehand would have been nice though, especially for things that give away who the artist is, also stock images or unrelated stuff. As for quality I guess just don't vote if you don't like it
2

Life

They are all so sweet ;.;

you are all so sweet
3

Amber

@Tribunal We did have a reminder earlier this week that the contest was closing! I should’ve put a note about double checking your entry, which I’ll keep in mind for the future for sure.
0

Tribunal

@Amber
I didn't think it was their fault once I figured it out/you explained c: That's part of why it would be good to remind people, so the fixed entries don't miss out on any votes from those who've already finished voting. Reminding people later just gives time for any other entries in 'limbo' to be fixed too so there can be just 1 reminder.
0

Wesker

I'm surprised there were no Goaty McGoatface entries
1

stars_water

Voted on every single one. Quite a few of those were less of "This is a design for Oatmeal's house," and more of "Hey, look what I can do!" There were a few designs I really liked, though. ^^ I was surprised to see how many of them were made by artistic novices too, I expected more practiced artists to enter.

That being said, I'd thought about entering a number of times.... It would help if I could stop preemptively upsetting myself by expecting to fail, though. I'm not very good at doing this stuff just for the sport of it when it's my art being judged.
1

Amber

@lull Why?
0

lull

@Amber - that's a real shame.
2

Amber

@Tribunal This wasn’t really their fault! It was an issue with the provider they used. We’re getting it sorted, though! (also did not look at the time stamp, I have quite a few pings about the contest so i’m like ANSWER ALL THE THINGS)
@lull Nope, just go through them all till you run out!
@ney if you didn’t see yours and went through all of them, I’d suggest making a ticket just in case so we can get things sorted out for you (just to be safe)!
0

Tribunal

@ney - I could see my own, and others have reported being able to see their own as well. I would probably check on yours.

@Amber - That was like 10 minutes, not late :p
I was just coming back here to say I figured it out, and yeah, it does look like an entry there was previously an issue with. If there's a reminder closer to the voting deadline it might mention for people to double check for any 'extras' they might want to vote on (that way there's time for any other problem ones to get fixed).
0

Amber

@Tribunal That’s likely one we had to unhide once we got the image resubmitted by a user. We had two or three entries that they provided an image but photo bucket wouldn’t load for us to update the image on site. I’ll look in to it though! (Sorry for late reply, just getting back from making dinner etc)
0

lull

@SubetaTeam - Will there be rounds to the voting? I hope so.
1

ney

does anyone know if we are able to see our own entries? just asking because i didnt see mine and i was worried something happened to it :K
0

Stiles

I'm having so much fun looking at these entries because while some you can tell no effort went into them, the majority you can tell are heartfelt (and adorable) and the voting system IK I said this before, but so much easier and more fun to use.
1

Tribunal

Appears to have just been the one, but it 100% for sure wasn't there before when I went through.
0

Tribunal

Umm...

I just went back to the voting page after having previously voted for everything and there's a new entry there? @Amber ?
0

Paradise

There is absolutely no reason to tell anyone not to enter a contest if they want to. Maybe there should have been pre-vetting but as it is now, if staff accepted an entry into this contest, then it is a valid entry. Everyone is equally allowed to enter. There will be good entries, meh entries and bad entries. That is why we have the voting system. Vote for the ones you like and move on. It's so mean-spirited to tell people not to even bother to enter just because you don't like their entry. If voting feels like you're wasting your time, then don't vote! Do something more productive instead.
13

Stiles

@Laurey Ah okay ty! :)
0

Laurey

@Stiles
I'm pretty sure you can vote up or down as many times as you want.
0

MistressMurder

I love so many of them! Good luck to everyone who entered.
0

ney

if anyone is having trouble, what i did was i voted for ones i LOVED and ones i hated, then saved every one that i wasnt sure of and went back for a second round of voting :D that helped me narrow down the entries !
0

Stiles

Do we have to limit our votes? Or can we go through them all and vote up as many times as we want?
0

Stiles

The skipping and the one per page tysm for that it makes it easier! <3
0

Tinkerbell

I love this new voting system! Everyone has been doing a great job :) One thing though: Would it be possible in the future to list say 1/2000 or 1 of 2,000 etc. I feel like I am clicking and choosing, but have no idea how much further I have to go.
3

MerlinPendragon

I want to congratulate everyone that did a real effort on this, there are many beautiful work that was simply amazing and clever. Yet I would like to say something for those who didn't put enough effort. I voted for each entry even when it took me a while, and I don't mean to sound mean but there were way too many entries that put absolutely no effort on it and I'm not saying for those that did a drawing in pencil only, that is fine as long as you did a good job, I am talking about those that put two sticks together and call it a home or anything else that was obviously just an entry to make us waste time. If you know you don't have the time to do something nice, don't bother it will save everyone time. I'm sorry if this upset many of you but it took me so long to look at the entries that I almost gave up and that would only mean missing good entries and not giving them the vote they deserved.
8

Britney

aw man i wish I entered
0

Mabon

Wow there's some clever ideas in here. Everything from tree houses to hobbit holes, from castles to lean-tos. Oatmeal is one spoiled little goaty :D
2

LilyValentine

I'm pretty sure I upvoted about 90% of these. Drawing with clearly a crapton of effort? Meh product but terrific description? Creative execution? One little unique detail I liked? Maybe I'm too easily pleased but I think Oatmeal will love most of these ideas!
2

Radi0rulz

good luck everyone! some are really good. :)
0

Frankenchokies

Must resist urge to up-vote good art with crap idea...

>.<
4

Frankenchokies

@Laurey

Ah, thanks.
0

Laurey

@Frankenchokies
Yes, they show up in a random order for everyone.
0

Frankenchokies

Also, why are so many people calling Oatmeal a she? XD
9

Frankenchokies

Are these randomized as you view them, or is everyone seeing them in the same order?

If so, then all the entries that show up last will get fewer votes. <.<
0

tendril

Aw heyyy, "Tempest has descended from above in order to play! You receive a storm item so she can get close enough to give you a MIGHTY BEAR HUG." while I was voting!
So many of these entries are amazing! Good luck everyone. :)
0

AnnVolans

Man, I wish I hadn't procrastinated for fear of failure. There were some really good ones in this, though a little sad no one made a goat tower/clock tower fusion.
2

Julie

You've voted on every single entry, good job!
That wasn't too bad. I voted up on a few of them. I wish I could see which ones I voted up. Which ones I voted down so I can make final votes on the ones I liked.
I thoroughly enjoy entering these contests.
3

Snuggle

I went through and voted for all of the ones that I liked, giving no thought to effort, ability, or creativity. My entire judgement for each entry was based on personal preference. Thumbs up and thumbs down works great because either you like it, or you don't. I really enjoyed voting in this contest and seeing all the interesting entries. I think it's great that everyone was allowed to participate to get the thank you note from oatmeal, there was probably a lot of people that had no interest in designing a house but still made a entry just to participate in this site contest. I love how great these people are for choosing to participate!

PS - Please be respectful. Don't call out entries, belittle people who drew in MS Paint, call people you don't even know lazy, or outright suggest that someone didn't put any thought into their entry. Remember that there is a real, living person behind each of those entries that is likely to see your comment. Those words are hurtful to somebody, you can live on without sharing them.
14

Mayumi

"You've voted on every single entry, good job!"
And yes, I'm going to say mea culpa, it is the first time that I entered a contest here and I didn't read that it had to be anonymous, so I signed my drawing and I am truly sorry.
(Even if it shows on my profile that I'm here for like 10 years, I just came back this year after maybe 3 or 4 years out. Some girl even stole my pet's name.)

But you know, I put *a lot* of effort on my drawing, spent days drawing/painting it, so I just hope that if I'll be declassified, 5 AMAZING entries win. Good luck for everyone tho <3

SPEAKING OF GNOMES

(ps this is actually an anteater i think you don't have to have nightmares)
0

omnibless

"You've voted on every single entry, good job!"

the skip button helped. I thought it would be more of a "thumbnail tabletop" pick-out-what-catches-your-eye voting system.
0

Jai

I'm not ashamed to admit that I entered a stick figure drawing. It was fun and who cares if I win? And for what it's worth, I spent the better part of an hour on it, even though it looks like shit. LOL
4

Ferinsy

You've voted on every single entry, good job!

YAY!
0

Ferinsy

@Shay oh my! I'm also glad! My image was 2k px wide, and I'm glad it was resized.

I just saw one image blowing the page... It was put as the img and /img sCode in the text, that's why it was too large. The body of the voting page resizes the image, but not the text area.
1

Mars

Now that I've gone through and seen all the entries, I think it'd be really cool if the final design that actually goes on-site could combine different elements from the top 5. Some designs had really cool bits like a unique shape, a great roof, or little homey touches like gardens, weathervanes, gnomes. Lots of things that would look adorable blended together!
10

FCoD

Voted on all entries and there were some truly beautiful ones. Heck, I wouldn't mind living in some of them! :)

Thanks for a fun contest.
2

Tribunal

Oh, and I at least got a different order when I went thru on my 2nd pass to actually vote, so I'm sure it is randomized. To reassure those (rightfully) concerned.
1

Tribunal

There are 199 entries by my count, jic that helps anybody! Might be off by a few, but ought to be very close.
6

Laurey

I guess it would be kind of hard for staff to filter the entries, because art quality alone isn't a great thing to judge on.

However, they could at least try to remove entries that are literally just a stock image from Google. Or entries that break the rules by having usernames or something in them when they're meant to be anonymous.
17

Song_745

I agree with @Ambition. Filtering out based solely on "quality" can accidentally weed out genuine entries, which wouldn't be fair. But anyone who is entering solely for a participation prize would be put off and not enter, and we'd only be left with entries by people who are trying to win.
7

Ambition

oh this was so much fun! :D I voted for my favs and I noticed that there were at least 5-8 that were unique/well thought out.
:cookie: :cookie: :cookie: :cookie: *shares cookies with all.*

I think the way to get rid of all the extra entries is to stop giving out exclusive "participation prizes" to whoever participates. The participants should get something, but IDK how to stop all the people who want a consolation prize from entering with non-serious entries too. It seems like not giving a consolation prize would stop all of that; then you would only get honest entries.
18

Pirate

I am voting based on the idea behind the house and not based on skill. Found some really great entries already (:
5

Song_745

@McKay Not if you put thought into the design! :) I upvoted creative or unique ones, even if the art skills wouldn't be earning them an animation job at Disney any time soon.
7

RNA

Voted on every entry, would like to redo some votes to be consistent. I voted depending on effort and how suitable each design was for a goat, not a human. I think a voting system where we are given two entries at a time and voting off the entry we like less until one entry remsins would have been good.
10

rhino_loupe

Come on, Subeta. Some quality control please. At least with the old voting system, we could scroll past the shitty no-effort entries.
7

Fray

Oh my, so much complaining about quality here

Hope my messy sketch didn't get y'all too mad...
7

Song_745

Sorry sorry I was too specific in my last post! :(
0

beinagrind

@Tris
a goat would eat 98% of these homes :p
7

Tris

@Dryad

I did the same thing. There were quite a few "scribbly" ones that I upvoted because the concept was good. I also downvoted some (a lot) that would be considered esthetically pleasing, but the effort wasn't more than a basic square and a triangle.
8

you

Just voted on them all! I love seeing the variety of art styles and the creativity. c:
There are some really cute entries in there!! I really hope the order of the entries was switched up for everyone, because I definitely became harsher as I got through more and more entries.
3

grace

Even in anonymous contests, please remember to follow the community guidelines and our no targeting rule! Please don't call out specific entries as bad or lazy, think of how you'd feel if you read that about your own.
8

Tris

You've voted on every single entry, good job! Seems as though there aren't that many entries after all.

However, SO MANY CASTLES. Why would a goat want to live in a castle? I just ????????
7

Song_745

@Lirikai I can't speak for others, but if it was poorly drawn but still had a good concept or looked well thought out, I still voted it up. But if it was JUST a stick house, or a photo of an oatmeal canister, or a photo of someone's rabbit hutch or whatever, it got a thumbs down. I want to vote for effort and concept, not "oop, got 3 minutes before the deadline, better whip up a square with a triangle on top"
18

erynamrod

Woo! I voted for them all. In the end it's not too incredibly long and there were some really cute entries. I worry about having entries cut based on "effort" because that's a hard thing to judge...I think it's totally fair to cut entries that don't meet the contest rules or are completely unrelated though.
0

Laurey

Maybe another system to try would be something kind of like this one, except instead of just voting up or down we could give a rating of like 1-10 or 1-5 or something. That way people who put in effort could still get some votes, and people who went above and beyond could get like max votes. IDK but I think it would be better than just a yes or no for each one.
11

Lirikai

Full disclosure, I'm one of the stick-house people. I'm kind of overjoyed to see so many other crappy stick figure houses, because I figure I can vote on the kind of house I really want Oatmeal to have based on the description and the general idea, not the quality of the art, because I really want Oatmeal to have an awesome place but don't have the skills to show it properly and others obviously don't either.

I could simply choose not to participate in any art-based contest ever, since people clearly don't want to see art like mine ever, but I like to participate sometimes.

I mean, judge on art quality if you want, that's fine, but I thought some of the previous contest complaints were precisely because it was all about art quality and people felt that was unfair. I'm just really liking all the variation in art styles and the ideas people have. This is pretty fun.
9

Toccata

Certainly a range of ideas. A few I saw I wanted to share with Oatmeal. Computer was acting up and multi errors kept appearing. I think there should have been some elimination of entries by staff tho.
1

Song_745

I'm voting up things that took actual effort but I wish I could give a double thumbs up to my favorites
9

Song_745

I vastly overestimated the amount of effort the average entry would take. I wish I hadn't been so intimidated - I should have entered.
11

Efferd

I agree that there should have been some sorting done by staff in the beginning because there were lots of half-heartedly done entries and I'd love an option to re-view all entries (and maybe also change votes).
3

Yumei

I feel like there needs to be a 'back' button~
1

Laurey

@METROID
I've already voted on all of the entries (or so it says) and it didn't even feel like it was as many as 200. It's probably a lot, I didn't count. But not that many I think.
2

Tucker

Two more things I need to say:

1: Is there any reason why our own entry shows up? Wasn't expecting mine to show up there but I guess I should have expected from the last contest.
2: Oh, thank goodness! At least I now know my entry isn't the one blowing up the page.

lmao
1

ashleigh

Ok wow, so a lot of clip art images. I didn't think that was allowed? I feel like my actual drawing can't compete/get voted on fairly. Not that I'm already being a sore-loser, but as an artist (photography and art historian) this is just sad. Ack. Voting for who I think deserves it at this point. Found 3 fairly AMAZING drawings that have taken the time to draw Oatmeal a beautiful house.

@Galaxia some people signed, some sent images from the internet...

And we can see the same entry more than once O_o This new system is a bit messy
5

METROID

Man there's way too many entries to sift through and vote on. Should be just the best 200.
0

horizon

I like them all so far! My favorite is the upside down yellow bowl. So cute! I don't know if I'll be able to downvote...we'll see. Sowwy!
0

Galaxia

Apparently some people signed their entries? Aren't all pieces supposed to be anonymized? A 'report' button would be good for next time, or I hope staff at least scrutinizes what wins to find such details and disqualify.
7

Bug

Hey everyone...

Reminder to vote for who you think should win - Don't just upvote entries for being legitimate entries.
I know it feels like you should upvote anything where the person put in effort just because of all the less serious entries that are showing up.
But, if we all do that, it kinda defeats the purpose of voting at all - where the point of voting is to try and see which one is the best, not just sort serious entries from nonserious ones.
7

Delirium

I really should have entered with my idea. Better than a goddamn bowl of oatmeal or a flower. >.>
I'm not judging anyone for their drawing skills. Just put in some thought and effort holy crap.
"Here's my entry. It's a square." Next time, please don't.
22

Crane

Man, a surprising number of these really do have signatures or links to personal blogs. Some real cute ones in there though!
2

twocents

I liked this set up more. I hope the order is random for everyone, because NGL, the oatmeal jokes, endless plain barns, and Hobbit holes I saw first benefited from not being the tenth one.

I did very much enjoy the amount of effort people put into them, though. I think my favorite is the one that outlined a whole water heating system, just because the effort was A+. :D
4

Julie

I haven't looked at the entries, just reading comments. We'll see how this voting system goes. Good luck everyone!
0

Cresenta

You've voted on every single entry, good job!

*feels like a responsible Subeta citizen* :D
5

Laurey

Although I do agree it would have been nice to take out some of the ones that aren't even art. My attempt was pretty bad and kind of just for the participation, but at least it was a drawing and not just a stock image. lol
6

usagi

"You've voted on every single entry, good job!"
lol I never knew it would happen so fast

I saw a couple of really good ones in there, good luck to everyone! :3 no doubt Oatmeal will get a great home!
4

Laurey

Some of these are really cute! Good job to everyone who came up with the really detailed and pretty things.

I actually like this system, it's kind of nice to be looking through the pictures and suddenly get one that is super good. Like a surprise in the middle of all of the "meh" kind of ones.

There are a lot to go through though, but at least we have two weeks to vote. I can probably get through them all if I do a bit each day.
2

far

Way too many ridiculous entries.

Good luck to all tho.
12

Sovereign

its kinda sad im finding myself downvoting more than i am upvoting.
i feel like with the sheer amount of time everyone's had there shouldve been, idk, more substance to a good 75% of these than just 'lol quaker oats '[which i found amusing but after like 4 it lost its charm, and just sorta started feeling like it was the 'go to' entry lmao.... ] and 'gimmie participation prize plz and thank'
like.
yikes?
19

Tucker

Oh my. I agree with the others, there really needs to be a vetting before we can vote. I was going to ask if we were going to get a gallery (still haven't for the last contest unless I missed it) but after seeing a few "in for the entry prize" and a couple of copy /paste of (stolen) stock images, maybe we don't need a gallery. :|
8

ashleigh

I'm in a college level drawing course and my teacher doesn't teach us how to draw so I had to wing it and go with my old drawing skills to enter for cute little Oatmeal <3 This was a fun event! I'm going to start looking at images now!
0

Tribunal

Found the stretched one. Ticketing it. I should have started counting when I started skipping, but I didn't :/ There are a LOT for anyone asking.
1

Maleria

I really don't like this system which is just boring at possible and I think a pre-selection should have been done. Five seconds flat scribble sketches or lazy photoshop shouldn't be valable entries. My entry is humble but I still spend some hours on it, like other people did and seeing this really turn me off to even try to browse among these entries.
6

beinagrind

holy heck some of these are super lazy/completely unrelated
furiously upvoting everyone who actually designed a home and not a rectangle with stock photos scattered on it
concept: give us a "flag entry as unrelated" button so the staff don't have to sift through them all
27

usagi

picture of a flower? hey at least it's not a picture of a copyrighted quaker oats, I mean is that entry for real?
while I wish there was a vetting process, I'm getting a good amount of laughs in, so I guess I'm not too bothered
7

Sovereign

i love how theres a dozen quaker oats container entries
2

Tribunal

I skipped all of them (to get a sense of what all there was to pick from) at first and def saw 1 duplicate. Were those checked for? It was hand drawn, not a coincidence. Picture identical, description slightly different.
4

Quentin

Loving a lot of these entries! Unfortunately, like Tonks said, there are a lot of ones that you can tell people didn't put effort in...at all. I've seen a lot of clip art, sketch-overs, unrelated images, stolen art, things like that. I'm voting for the ones that I know people put time and effort in, having nothing to do with artistic ability.
12

FCoD

I am loving this contest and while my entry may appear to some as though I didn't try, trust me it was the best I could do while feeling ill.

For me it was just the fact that I had a good time, and I wanted to pay tribute to out beloved Oatmeal as best I could.

Good luck to everyone, there are some lovely entries.
4

serinde

Gave up after few dozens. Some sign we're getting close to seeing all of them would be appreciated. And agreeing with some opinions here - few lines and a slab of color done in MS Paint in 30 seconds shouldn't count as valid entry.
4

Hamda

ok I know the prizes for this one is "meh" but can I ask for a pre-vote round before the finalist are voted for?

You don't have to be an artist but come one, some of these are just ridiculous! I came across not one but THREE that looked like a house stick figure.... IN PENCIL!!!! you couldn't even be bothered to draw a tree with that?! seriously?

Also the bowl of oatmeal house was cute the first time I saw it. not so much the second time and as I write this here comes a third....
15

skellahton

Really agree that there should be a vetting process and/or stricter guidelines next time a contest like this happens. I imagine a lot of people aren't even going through all the entries because there are SO many that are stock images, halfhearted rectangles, or just completely unrelated
14

erynamrod

I agree that entries that aren't on topic shouldn't be accepted. Other than that I find even the ones with little effort amusing, sometimes they make some humorous quips.
9

Bug

While it's amusing to see things like the stock photo of a flower, it really isn't fair at all if those submitters get the same participation prize. It's not fair to those of us who put time and effort into our entries. I second that staff should go through the entries and remove the ones that show obvious lack of effort or are completely off-topic (like the flower photo). I don't think the badly drawn ones should be removed because it was a design contest, and not everyone can draw well. But I really don't understand how that flower photo is even here, or things like the poorly drawn entry with absolutely no design to it that just says "Goat House".
30

feral

Really wish staff had at least gone through and rejected the ones that are literally just images from google and stuff like that. =/ There is a LOT of them.

Other than that, I'm glad to see so many entries on this! So many artists I've never seen before, which makes me happy!
19

Tonks

Please staff review the rule of this contest and don't give a rewards to everyone that submitted.
Oh so many aren't even 'home' like that picture of a flower and nothing else.
I mean they didn't even try... they didn't even care for the contest.

If I had know that I could submit ANYTHING, not even something that look like a home or sort, I would have.
26

JAY

I guess I'll be "that guy", but I'm really disappointed in the lack of creativity and effort in most of these. I've gone through at least 25, and I've seen only a couple that looked like any thought was given. And the ones I voted for weren't even that good from an artistic standpoint - but clearly the users spent time on it and it showed. Copy+pasting, MS paint, line drawings? I wish I had the time to enter, because this was a really fun topic. I was expecting more from the entries :(
But kudos to the people who really tried!
27

Marlboro

Can we have a pre-voting that the stuff is going entry by entry and eliminating the entries that are just -there- for the prize?

I can actually just upload a blank photo and it'll count....
17

Samwise

could we get some sort of status bar/counter, how many you've seen vs. how many left/total?
15

tighnari

Yeah there are a couple that are incredibly huge and don't really let me see the whole image.
3

Malevolent

Oatmeal and this contest make me so happy. *dies of cute*
2

Diane

This was cute, good luck people.
1

Skylar

What will happen if the Quaker Oats package wins? XD

By the way, I like this voting process a lot better than the last contests'. It doesn't take forever to load a page. But yeah, I think a image size limit could be helpful.
6

Mars

Aww there's so many really cute and unique entries, I bet Oatmeal would love all of them :D Good luck everyone!
0

Tris

Gonna sound like an old grump, but can there please be a vetting process? I get that there's a participation trophy, but really. A bowl? 100 copy/paste standard MS Paint block houses with zero effort? Kind of a slap in the face to the people who actually took their time to create a real entry...
39

skellahton

why is one of the entries a stock photo of a chrysanthemum lmao
27

ScissorCrow

Do we have unlimited votes?
1

Draken

honestly why were image sizes not required? first image I get was effing massive and voided everything else out.
2

chris

some of the images blew up for me too. and i saw some usernames on the images (not sure if that is ok or not... :O ! )
6

Wesker

Some of y'all are so cheeky with these entries :p lol I love it
4

Dracona

yeah the images are massive and hard to see :-/
1

Amber

@serinde If an image took up your whole screen, please do a ticket about it! Nothing did that for me when I checked everything.
1

Karasu

Whoever submitted the quaker oats for oatmeals home is my hero. Lmao
9

Ferinsy

LOL someone sent a Quaker Oats package
7

serinde

Would be nice to make sure all images are proper size and not blowing up the whole layout...
11

Ferinsy

@Amber the order of entries shown is random for everybody, right?
1

Snoopy

I'm so excited to see all the lovely entries!!
0

Amber

you are the worst @kbbob
9

Kevin

votes up for everything
12

lost

good luck everyone! some of these are lovely!
0

sassysubsis
