Experiment Pet Poll Results

Well, future customers and most excellent funders of the One True Zapper. I have quite some news for you. Thanks to your generosity, I find myself practically

- Experiment #2759 with 870,500,000
- Experiment #5162 with 857,100,000
- Experiment #3485 with 302,100,000
- Experiment #0101 with 248,350,000
- Experiment #870 with 208,100,000
As you can see, there were two contenders that zapped into the lead and - to let you in on a little behind the scenes fun - remained very much neck and neck throughout the donation period. It was very tense.
The donations were so high, in fact, that I believe I may be able to turn BOTH of these top contenders into full pets. I know, I said I would only do one! But I’m Euclid, the all powerful scientist - do you really want me to hold back on my constant and changing whims? Plus, the blob will be easy. Nobody is going to be worried about if its legs look anatomically correct or if it has furboobs.
So look forward to your future pets! Now I just need to come up with a name for them. I’m currently leaning towards ‘peabomination' and ‘blobface' but who knows what will happen while I’m tweaking my zapper. That’s not a euphemism. Get your mind out of the gutter. Maybe if you shout some suggestions at me some of them will influence my decisions. I can’t do all the work, people.

@Burton "go outside or something. " lol lol love it! Personlly i didnt get my vote but this is awesome. Thx subeta!
I say again. I really don't like this making experiments full pets thing.
And I know I can't do anything about it except pretty much this, which is frustrating.

This reminds me of how Neopets introduced the Gnorbu... and for those who remember and think no one actually wanted one when it was made into a real pet, thats not true at all! I love my little Gnorbu. And I'll love my little Blob too

I'd call the peacock experiment "Peaony". It's not only a portmanteau of "peacock" and "pony", but also a pun on peony flowers (it looks a bit flower-like to me, and I just have a weakness for puns).

Congrats on the winners. I hope their will be a chance in the future for the other experiments. I was hoping #3485 I would win, I just love mine.

My vote was for the pangolin. :c oh well, I'm zapping for one now and I've made a cute overlay. Peacock was my other choice. I am also curious what the results would have been had it been actual voting... I mean I put 12mil down on the pangolin and to me that's a lot. I can't even imagine what it would be like to have 200mil to blow on an sp sink.
Very happy our little inkblot won. I already have a name picked out and a slot waiting...<3

the 2 I voted for won! wooooooooooo... for those hating on the blob I loved the idea that for the special pets it could form all sorts of things, like Sweetheart (heart), Steamwork (a cog), Graveyard (tombstone), Bloodred (pool of blood), Angelic (cloud)
Peacock name - Peaquine? Pavo? (from the genus name)
Blob name - Blob? Amorf? Morf? Morfus? (all from Amorphous - without form)

Glad the peacock thing is one of the winners, sad the rainbow squid isn't the other one. Not a fan of the blob thing. But, at least one of the experiments I voted for and wanted to see turn into a pet won! When it has a name and is made official, I'll get a peacock thing for sure!
HAHA oh man, this is giving me such fond Neopets flashbacks. The Gnorbu won their April Fool's pet poll due in large part to the popularity/meme status of Napoleon Dynamite, which had come out like a year prior - but then pretty much nobody actually wanted their super funny joke pet after it was made into a species.
Anyway, I never had any illusions that my favorite (sandcat) was gonna win, but I'm pleased runner-up peacockalope made the cut. Remember, kids: even if your favored pet didn't win, sP sinks are beneficial to all of us and help stabilize the economy!

:/ I was hoping the squid would win...
The blob is too simplistic to be interesting and the peacock thing has art that makes it hard to look at. :/ Boo.

While I am sad that the Experiment #0101 didn't win or get a change, I'll hope someday I'll get to see him in all the awesome colors like a real pet. Until then, Congratulations the winners :D Looking for to seeing the colors when the come out!! <3

Whoops, only gave a fraction for a day and then forgot about it after that. I forgot which one I voted for in the first place.

I personally think that the new Peacorn (name?) pet should be from Shengui Guo, and thus, have a name like the Legeica or and/or the Zentu. The scales on the head and blue coloring remind me of the Kappa from Japanese lore, and the Kirin (i.e. Legeica) from general Asian (Chinese) mythology. So, maybe Kapin (Kappa + Kirin) for the name?
Well I am glad that we are getting new pets but I will say the only people who truly won are the ones who didn't vote. I didn't vote and therefore I am not really upset at what we are getting. The only reason I would feel upset is if I think it's unfair which I am seeing the majority voice their anger on this section and agree that this should have been more thought out before doing this. I will admit that I still have my sp and happy that I did not waste it. Yay!! :)

Quote by @Greg:
Nah, it's just a ~joke~ pet. None of us really wanted this thing... right? ;)Ok, that's a pretty good explanation. You really thought of everything involving the blob, right? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
Seriously, all I can do is throw ideas out into the ether, see what sticks.
Speaking of sticking, let's say that they all come from massive, fruiting bodies called Mothers. Luna's called Mother for the kumos, right? And, while it's cute when a dog has lots of puppies, it's not so cute when a seething mass produces lots of little globs that seek out rot. hahaha.

I'm kind of glad 3485 didn't win - I love my squid and I think it would be strange to see it around in anything other than pink.
Hopefully the next new pet will be based on a cephalopod, given the clear amount of interest in having one. c: I think it would be great to have a brand-new design for one.

I'm not surprised Sandkitty failed to appeal to most though. Still, it at least does provide an idea for a new redraw colour in the future. Seeing pets partially made out of sand would be cool.

I'm a bit mixed on the results. I was fairly confident the squid was going to be either first or second. I knew the blob was gonna have a large audience of fans, but didn't realize that much! I actually look forward to seeing what the blob can be manipulated into with the special colours.
As for the peahorse, I dunno. I think it's a rather complicated design, and complex species designs tend to be released very slowly in special colours compared to the more simplistic designs. I'd have preferred seeing the squid win if only because it does look like like something that belongs with the other pets in the world. Peahorse really doesn't because of its complexity. And i don't even like the squid, but I know plenty of people have wanted it as a pet ever since it was first released.

I distinctly remember people being very unhappy at the idea that more than one would win, staff saying it wouldn't happen, and now they're going against that?

Ugh, really? Why didn't this super-cute-pink-experiment#3485 win? Do these subeta members have any problem? Argh

If the glade version of the precious little blob creature isn't a marimo i will have so many sads.

Ok so I said I didnt need a new pet from this but pictured the blob in pink and having a pet that resembles charlie kind of made my day. I cant wait to change the new petbro of mine in to his pink blobby self.
Its gonna be a hubba bubba nightmare 8U

Yeah I personally don't see the appeal of the blob, but I don't want to complain about it. We all expected only one experiment to win, and we ended up with two! And the news post implies that we probably wouldn't have gotten the second one if it hadn't been the blob anyway, because this one is "easy". And Rah said in a different thread that this one is going to be a collaborative effort among all the artists that they're all really going to enjoy doing. It sounds like the second place winner wouldn't have been made if it were any of the other experiments. Most of the complaints seem to be about the blob, so... Let's just be happy that we're getting double the fun?
I understand the complaints about the method (though it seems the peacock deer still would have won either way), but the complaints about the blob aren't seeing the forest for the trees, I think.

I'm super disappointed, but oh well. Grats to those who wanted these two, I guess? Guess I just have to keep zapping my Zapper pet till I get #870

T.T my pangolin baby. oh well.
Congrats to those why get to have official pets of those they like.

The blob got so much because people wanted it, otherwise it wouldn't have gotten that much.
I mean, that is literally how it works.
Oh, and yes, those that voted for it will own it. I already own one, dumped sP into it, and may own more than one. You wouldn't be complaining had your choice won and you know it.

Fuck. Yeah. Blob.
I'm so happy. I knew the peacock was going to win but I'm glad you saw potential in the blobber.
Also, more sP sinks please. They make me happy.

I'm really sad that I will not get a space sand cat which can travel through time BUT I'm really exited to see that little slime monster in different colours :)
Just joking .... THIS IS CORRUPTION!!! I WANT MY GALACTIC SAND CAT!!! GIVE ME MY SAND CAT!!!

half pout half woohoo (I love the sand cat T_T) but I'm not upset that blobby won (well tied) however I will be if it doesn't get special colors threatening fist shake I mean seriously can you imagine a blood red blob? OOoooh or a nightmare one... (no didn't vote for it but come on, think of the possibilities!) also make reborn peadeer a thing asap!

for those of you mad about "the blob" winning ...i voted for him, partly because I've had one of my pets as him before and he grows on you, also he feels like the most incomplete pet and I'm the most curious about, what is it? what will it become? i feel a lot of potential there because they can take it any direction they choose, think of him as a caterpillar turning into a butterfly :P the possibilities are endless...
i like the squid and the peacock , they are so cute
and I'm excited about experiment #870 , can't wait to see the complete version!
also i only voted 3 times and I'm happy with the final choices ;)

For the peacock-deer names: Pavolin, Peacora, Penna, or Peacorn (yes, all were suggested by others, but I thought these sounded best).
No offers on the blob, since I don't see myself ever wanting one, and I don't want to throw the votes for those who actually wanted it.
As for things not being fair (which they aren't, especially for people who are new users and have other things they need to use sP on first, like just getting the colors they want for their existing pets), I saw this option posted by Cullen:
"Just a thought on how we might be able to improve gold sinks like this for people to feel they're a bit more fair: maybe we could have public goals like x amount of sP is needed globally to unlock one species and x is needed for a second, etc... and then have just a regular poll to determine the most popular pets to figure out the order of what gets turned into a pet instead of an experiment."
Having everyone vote once (or vote the order of their favorites from 1-5 once) would determine an order for them--since Euclid said those were the top contenders of the experiments, that means he 'could' make them ALL into viable species, and it would really only be down to the most popular order. If two were very close, they could both be made at the same time (subject to Subeta staff decisions), but that would mean the collective amount of required sP needed to do so would have to go way up (at least double--say, 1,000,000,000 for one and 2,000,000,000 for 2). Once the order of the 5 is established, anytime they're looking at introducing a new experiment pet, they can create another sP sink to initiate said new pet. This can all easily also apply to user-suggested species, though not as zapper costs, but if their backstory was that they'd been trapped somewhere, that would be the cost to free and care for them.
