WHAT’S THIS?

Quentin has decided to bring a bit of Luminaire to Morostide this year! Do their quests and you’ll have the chance of getting an old Luminaire item as a reward.

These items will stop going out once Morostide ends.

I've been on this site for 14 years and I can't believe anyone is surprised anymore if promises are broken or staff is unprofessional. Just another day on Subeta lmao

Hey my only gripe is with how the tone Amber responded with. This is what I mean when it comes to my criticisms with staff as of late. The sarcasm and overall snarky tone is unacceptable behavior from the ones running this site.

Yes, the site is free to play, but staff also wants people to give money so the site can stay afloat. Their behavior as of late makes me not want to buy CSC with real money. I'd rather see the site die than support a bunch of silly adults still acting like they're teenagers.

And it doesn't matter if the site is free to play. They're relying on the CS and ad revenue from user activity. If staff had even an ounce of passion, they'd be throwing their all into this site with new content and actually try to get people to stick around. But it's always the excuse of 'not having enough money' as for why we don't have more new content, so nothing gets done unless we the users give them money with the promise of more new stuff.

Based on Amber's comment and how her wording makes it sound like they could have gone back on a promise that was made last month, I wouldn't trust them as far as I can spit. You reap what you sow.

The purpose of these events is less "fun gift for me in particular!" and more to reintroduce numbers of these items back into the economy, which can happen multiple ways. If the old retired Lumi stuff is still too inflated I'm sure we'll just get a higher proportion going out through the free shop at new year's or something.

Nibs

I must be unlucky since I got 4x limo items for 10x quests lol but I’m still happy to see some lumi in October!! Thank you! :$

Crow_914

To preface this: I'm not super invested in Lumi as a concept (I'm a bit of a scrooge, I'll be hella gifting people when the time comes, but grumbling about the irl holiday under my breath the whole time) so I don't have a super huge need to get these specific items. That said, the people who bring up that we're only getting 5 days of drops instead of 2.5 weeks have a really valid point. This was something we were already promised to get, not some sort of out of the blue gift, so the fact that we are getting a much smaller version of it than the rest of the drops during the anniversary event is something people have valid reason to be upset over.

People acting like anyone with a complaint is a bad person is a real good way to build a toxic community that self-polices anyone who wants improvements into leaving. That's not what we /have/ but it's not an impossibility considering I'm concerned I'll get blocked by strangers just for saying anything.

I feel like there's often a lot of controversy with any news post regarding changes/decisions. I don't have any strong feelings about these things, but I can see why some people feel upset. I think we should enjoy the things that staff gives us. For the most part, this site seems pretty okay.
For your own sake (anyone), it's better to not grow so attached to the idea of having items here that you become angry/frustrated over it. Take a step back and just go with the flow.
(I do understand if this message reads as extremely out of touch because I haven't yet been invested in this site for years like many users, but I want to bring some positivity here)

Hope to snag some old Lumi items i missed out. Thanks for the oppertunitititiii...

StarShadow

Honestly I don't really care about the Lumi items, if I get any I get them. OK. I just want to know when we will be getting the new skins since there's only a few days left and the timer to get one you don't already have is a day. Please new skins? ;)

@Sekhmet

For some reason this came to my mind after your professionalism comment and everyone's complaints...

I think we're all better off not having expectations and just be glad/appreciative when something does work.

I'mma go back to ToTing now.

Jamileigh17

I think some people are taking my comments as harsher than I think I phrased them, and definitely harsher than I meant (I could have phrased it better too, sorry!). i think everyone should be able to take feedback about choices they're making as part of their job. It's Amber's job, and as users, we're customers. I don't expect everything to work the way I want it to, that's nonsense, but I do feel it's reasonable to express when something's promised and what's delivered isn't up to the expectations the staff themselves set. I get being overworked and stressed, been there done that myself more times than I can count. If they're unhappy with their job, they need to address the issues with their boss or job hunt, not take it out in frustration on their users. That's unprofessional, and just makes the situation escalate. Walking away from the conversation though, cause I have work of my own to get done today.
23

Julia

Let's recap:

* Subeta is free to play
* The items are retired. Most places don't bring back retired items and certainly not as quest rewards. Usually you'd have to pay a premium.
* They didn't go out last event because something went wrong. They're out now.

If you're frustrated, get over it. It's free and it's a game. If you're taking it so seriously that you actually think you're in the right for making demands and chastising staff you need to take a break or something.
35

Suiicune

Not even sure what’s going on? But yayyyya Lumi items! :D thank you<3
3

Julia

Few things make my blood boil so much as people acting really entitled and trying to pretend that they're the reasonable ones. It's right up there with customers that ask how they'll be "compensated" because a sale item is sold out. You guys aren't owed anything.
28

Avel

Either way, I am glad that it wasn't forgotten. I was beginning to wonder.

I can understand this problem from both sides of the perspective. One the one hand, I totally get why users are frustrated. We had something promised to us that isn't happening in the way we were promised. However, on the other hand, I get that staff is really busy and this is just another task on top of an already toppling pile. With all the holidays coming up and the items they need to get out, staff has their hands full. Either way, neither group (users or staff) should be disrespectful or sarcastic to each other. Both groups have the right to express our opinions and concerns and try to work out a solution in a mature and civilized manner.

Overall, I think everyone needs to step back, take a deep breath, and try to approach this professionally. Did staff promise something and not deliver exactly was promised? Yes. Is it the end of the world? No. Are we getting a portion of what was promised? Yes. Does this fix the fact that staff went back on their promise? No, but it's a start. Do we have the right to express concerns and receive a professional response from staff? Yes. Does this mean we're allowed to immaturely complain without suggesting realistic solutions? Definitely not.

We all have flaws and not everything is going to work out exactly how we want it. That's okay--the point is to work together to find the best solution for the community as a whole. All of us (users AND staff) need to look at the other person's perspective and try to understand their situation. Once we do that, we'll be much better off as a site and a community.
19

Avel

That comment is a little yikes. Don't be sarcastic about possibly taking away something you promised. I get that Staff is up to their elbows in problems right now, but that is not a great look.
22

Alana

I got the
Book of Red Fairy Tales
on my first quest. It was the thing I was really hoping for, so thank you!! ^_^
2

Altruism

Honestly, it really is about the reaction here. Lumi items come and go, but I do find it kind of silly that the person's valid complaint was removed but staff were still allowed to knee-jerk react to it. Can't have it both ways, guys, at least not without expecting some kind of shitstorm. Obviously staff are probably overworked and stressed, but promising something and ripping it away (or threatening to) isn't the smartest idea in order to appease the situation. That just rubs people the wrong way.

In the end, people are valid to feel disappointed and the staff are valid to feel stressed.
19

Paradise_Lost

I wasn't using the site when the previous event was promised, but I can understand why some users are upset. When is it ever acceptable for a professional organization/semi-professional organization to promise something, not follow through, then give you half of what they promised after an extended period of time? But nonetheless, I really don't find it that big of a deal and I'm just happy with the chance to receive some Lumi items.
My REAL issue was with how the staff handled a comment that criticized/expressed concern over the event. Are we not allowed to have an opinion that the staff doesn't like? Why is it ok for a staff member to publicly humiliate/ostracize users? A user who puts their time and possibly money into the site. How the situation was handled seemed immature and unprofessional. I don't have a lot of opinions on the staff seeing I don't use this site regularly, but this left a bad taste in my mouth.
17

Altruism

bro I got like 3/10 Lumi items and they were all the cheap ones :(

Unfortunate
6

Rabbit

I'm just happy the Lumi items are getting released. lol

Well, I think we can look at it from this angle: You'll never please everybody.
Even if you try your darnest best, you won't ever please everybody. That's just a life fact, we can be happy for the people who enjoy what we do, pick out carefully the constructive criticism that hides among complaints sometimes, and let the rest just be it. We all have to learn how to live with this and just try to keep doing the best we can.

Surely it would be great to get gratitude all the time, and a lot of people are very happy to just have it, others will just speak out their frustrations, vent their thoughts, everybody has a different notion on things.

I appreciate what you guys are doing here, keeping the site up, working out things, making a lot of events lately, but a "Well, unfortunately, we won't be able to extend the event this time, sorry!" would have been quite enough I imagine. Everytime I see complaints it is easy to imagine how frustrating it gets too - but you should take those things into consideration, as well when adressing user frustrations.

@Jamileigh17 has the right to speak up what they wish they could have seen happening, but I'm also not going to crucify @Amber - all in all I think the issue doesn't need to explode really. :P

Everybody out here acting like this is the first and only time Lumi items will ever be given out by quests.

Disconcerting that staff would openly break promises and act like they owe us nothing. Now it feels like we're the burden for expecting staff to follow through on their word. Not a great reaction.

I agree with Frost.

That... that comment doesn't look right. It doesn't feel right. It doesn't sound right.
Personally it's not about the lumi items for me, it's the principle of the thing. Anyway I'll do my Quentin quests, thanks.

Disasters

IDK at this point I am beginning to really feel bad for staff. Let's be real, if people came to your job every single day and no matter what you did, complained every day all day about everything under the sun.... wouldn't you get tired of dealing with it too?

Staff tries new things? Gets flamed for it... Releases fun new items? Accused of trying to force people to buy GAs to use the new items... Doesn't start an event early enough? The SB fills with people whining about how its not fair it hasn't started yet... Not to mention the personal attacks that have been thrown at them lately on the forums...

No matter WHAT staff do, people are ALWAYS complaining even when they've really done nothing wrong. I don't think any of us would be willing to put up with that at our jobs every day, so why the hell is it okay to abuse and ridicule staff like this?

Are staff perfect? No. Do they piss me off sometimes? Yup! But I just can't imagine putting up with the amount of attacks and complaining they do on a daily basis and still be willing to do my job.

And before people accuse me of kissing staff's asses, far from it. I'm just honestly tired of the non stop negativity that's on here everyday.
43

Victoria

Thank you for working this in. I get the frustration on both sides of this. The users just want the time already promised them but the staff had problems with it and it just did not work out so they are trying to get it worked in to a very busy time of year.
7

Frost

I'm a little disappointed that it's a shorter period, but I'm glad to hear that we might have questgivers giving Lumi stuff out during December!

Quote by Amber:
Or I could just have not given you the opportunity to get luminaire items at all.
... :grimacing:
On one hand, you want people to play the site. On the other hand, considering how small of a thing this is, and taking into account all the circumstances and promises around these cursed Lumi items... That... that comment doesn't look right. It doesn't feel right. It doesn't sound right.

You can do better. I know you can.

There is nothing requiring the staff to apologise for a promise that wasn't fulfilled, or even sound like they were sorry.

1

Sigilmancy

@Sekhmet

Honestly, couldn't have said it better myself. People wonder why users have a problem with the staff.....this is why. We were promised Lumi items would go out some time in October since they couldn't get the Wizard to make it happen for one reason or another, fine. But to deliver on that midway through Morostide, giving 5 days instead of over 2 weeks for them to go out, the backlash is going to be there. To reply to that by saying, in effect, that because we *dare* to complain about it the staff aren't required to keep their promises to put these items out is just bullshit. The subtle implication of that, along with what could be taken as a threat to either not give us further time for these during Lumi or to take this opportunity away, is really unprofessional.

@Princezz

People are getting 'sarcastic' about this because it keeps happening. We keep being disappointed and let down by staff, and then when we raises our voices to say something we get responses like what Amber has already put out that was addressed above so there's that to consider as well. We began to point out that there was a lesser time frame only to get hit with a sarcastic comment and the subtle implication that staff are not required to keep their promises.

Sneaky

This is probably going to get me blocked by even more people because I complain a lot and it's very annoying, but @Jamileigh17 @MarissaUnderground and @Sekhmet all have a good point about the shorter time, unless you increase the number of items given out per quest to compensate, or have other quest givers join in too. Also, this makes me worried we'll have even less time to get the 2018 Morostide items unless they're given out another way (Someone guessed it might be the Free Shop but I'm not sure).

Anyway, as for my own opinion, if you really couldn't get the Wizard to do it (People said you managed to get him to do it before so I don't know why it's different this time) and had to resort to another quest giver, then it would have been nice if you did it sooner so there would be more time. It's good that you did finally release these items but I understand why people are upset. There's no need for them to be sarcastic about it though.
14

Sekhmet

"Or I could just have not given you the opportunity to get luminaire items at all, @Jamileigh17. There is nothing requiring these go out at any time." Whoa, hold up. You promised that they would, which is really two-faced to imply that it was all out of the goodness of your heart to finally deliver. And is that a subtle threat to take it away? Jesus. It's like someone promising you a banana split, giving you a plain vanilla baby cone months later, and then acting all insulted at your reaction. "Well if you're going to act like that then I'll take away the cone too!"

Thanks SO MUCH for the five days, when we should have gotten 2 1/2 weeks. And out of my 15 quests 9 have dropped Lumi items, all of them cheap shit. Could you at least weigh the ones worth 35 million to go out more often than the 500sp items?

@Amber Fair, but you can understand the frustration when something made you excited (cause there are a few things I'd be super excited to snag) when it 's a "oops, this didn't work, we'll get it out another way" and then it's shoehorned into a much shorter time frame than all the other equivalents were given. Would you rather have 255 changes to maybe get that item (15 quests per day with a gold you activated specifically FOR the events), or 75 chances (15*5)?
10

Merry Halloween :D
3

Glad to have them finally being given out, but I don't think 6 or 5 days is long enough...

Or I could just have not given you the opportunity to get luminaire items at all, @Jamileigh17. There is nothing requiring these go out at any time. Yes, Quentin is doing them now (because Wizard didn't earlier), but that isn't to say they won't pop up again during actual Luminaire. :P

Thanks staff.

Jamileigh17

LOL So when the Wizard can't do it, we'll have Quentin do it for a whole 5 days, expecting that to make up for 2 1/2 weeks of missed bonus items from the previous event. Come on, at least make it for a longer period of time! Or is the drop percentage high enough to compensate?
