Not So Friendly Challenger: Noijatat
Me, I’ve half a mind to suspect one of those hornswagglin’ Islanders is tryin’ t’ sabotage our little shindig, but I’ll naught be able t’ afford the fallout if I’m wrong. Would ye mind a lil’ sojourn n’ reconnaissance so’s we can find th’ scurvy dog and cleave ‘em to the brisket for this offense?
Translation: Hello, friends! I wish I was announcing the start of Keel Hauliday, but unfortunately we’ve had trouble at the port! The buildings and the dock have been covered in paint! Babette’s inn sign has been vandalized with unkind words! There is even a crude caricature of myself and the crew painted on the deck of the lifeboat! We appear to be deceased! Carl has spoken of a suspicious individual with glowing eyes in the area, but that distinguished gentleman can be a little hard to understand sometimes, so we aren’t sure what he may have seen.
I believe an Islander may be responsible, perhaps trying to ruin Keel Hauliday. I would visit and ask myself, but they might take that the wrong way. Would you mind visiting the Islanders and clearing up this little misunderstanding?

I LOVE giving gifts and I don't do it often enough (low energy etc) but I have an idea of something I can do tonight to "pay it forward." My pets are new at battling and I'm new at understanding how to battle, and I was able to beat this new challenger 5 times with my strongest pet and I'm ecstatic!! I've only been battling for a little over a year, and I have one other pet who's possibly going to be able to endure 5 battles before she overtakes him. I am posting because I want to say how grateful I've been for all the help I've received from so many players here in explaining how things work, and everything!! I've been gifted with some expensive scrolls, I've had the AP explained, and I started battling with some very smart pets, but most of them didn't have their other stats built up. I now have 19 pets and they're all in training as often as I can be here to toss them back in. I can't afford the CSC to autotrain that often but that's fine.
I also want to thank everyone who posts the stats and the battle loot every time a new challenger comes along. That's VERY helpful. I don't know if anyone will read this, because it's old news now, but I finally got around to posting this and it feels good to do this even if it's just for me. And NOW, I'm about to swap the names of my two newest pets and get to the business of creating my Nostalgic Zentu. I just LOVE that little watering can!!
I also want to thank everyone who posts the stats and the battle loot every time a new challenger comes along. That's VERY helpful. I don't know if anyone will read this, because it's old news now, but I finally got around to posting this and it feels good to do this even if it's just for me. Took about 10 tries, but finally got her. Given the beginning stats, though, I think I'll hold off for a time. Now that she's in my list of Secret Challengers, she's not going anywhere.

That is what happened to me with Esther. Never got the event, but saw a mention of a similar situation for the next month's Not-so-friendly challenger and went to see if she was in the Secret tab for opponents. She was.

An old NPC, actually. From the first plot event from Subeta that I was here for. Has to be at least 10 years ago now; probably slightly longer than that. I had actually almost forgotten about her existence before today.

No, they haven't done super much with the Islanders as they've done with the Pirates since that plot so long ago. The 2016 plot was the first I'd seen them do more with them than just the game Matlal's Jewels.

Wait, I just had a thought. What if the possessor doesn't like pirates? I doubt it could be Merana because she doesn't talk the same way as her, but still, it's something to think about...
I'm also wondering which of the things Matteiu said that this is related to (the Floating Market incident has already happened, we know something will happen in Shadowglen at some point, and the stone pillars seem to imply something will also happen in Saherimos as well). Maybe we'll have more information when the CS challenger comes out.

@Dude And that's why I think the Islanders need more focus. Even if it's just items related to them, like the new loot.

I don't know enough about the Islanders to have predicted this. Maybe they need more focus, I don't think they've been featured much outside of the 2009 plot I wasn't there for (even the 2016 plot only really focused on 2 of them).
Anyway, I really like that border that's part of the loot. I also hope she'll be alright afterwards *Remembers what the mysterious possessor said when the last CS challenger was released*
