Darkmatter Dragarth and Montre Revamps

It looks like someone has been up to something. The darkmatter dragarth and montre both have new looks!

I like the revamps on the Dragarth, but for some reason the right eye on the Montre looks a bit wonky. I'm not saying it's bad, the eye just bugs me. LOL

I don't really care one way or the other, but there are two things I know for sure.
1.) Art is subjective. You can think the new montres better, or worse, or whatever. But if you've formulated an opinion on it and you have a reason for that opinion, you're not wrong. Different things entice different people in different ways. But if you don't like something, you at least need to have the decency to understand why you don't like it before calling it ugly. Which, everyone here seems to be doing. If they don't like the new montre its because they feel their perception of the montre was altered and it's not a true representation anymore. Which is a valid opinion. They gave it a chance, they didn't say it was bad, they just proclaimed the reason they didn't like it and it was perfectly valid. It's not trolling, it's not bashing. It's giving a critique and being an intelligent, good enough human to make a valid reason for that critique. Which is more than a LOT of people wil lever do.
2.) Not everything is perfect. The "if you don't have anything nice to say..." is a ridiculous standard to uphold. Oh, your paper is FULL of grammatical errors, but I shouldn't tell you you need to revise it, because "I don't have anything nice to say". Oh, your stick figure drawing looks like you gave a crayon to a five year old, spun them around and closed their eyes, but I shouldn't tell you to practice a little more before trying to send it to an art gallery because "I don't have anything nice to say". Pointing out flaws, inaccuracies, or just your own concerns with something is how YOU yourself learn more (maybe it didn't make sense to you, but when you point it out you get it explained), and also how you help fix flaws in something else and teach others. Maybe the artists had a reason for making the montre more masculine, more fluffy, whatever the point is. But if nobody ever says it and we all live in magical rainbow land, we would never know. And the artist would never know it mattered to people and that they wanted to know why it happened.
So yeah. Basically. That's my thoughts on everything.
I've always loved their poses so I'm kind of indifferent on it all :*

xD Good goddamn, some peeps have quite the attitude - god bless the artists for taking it all in stride. =P
I honestly think the new montre is more sleek than the old. Both images are definitely steps up from the old ones. xD
Keep up the good work!

Because there's a big difference between saying "I'm not too fond of the new montre, I think the wings are a bit off" or something and saying shit like "I NEED THE OLD ONE BECAUSE I LIKE HAVING _QUALITY_ ART." Constructive criticism is a lot different than flat out bashing an artist or new art. As an artist yourself, I'm surprised you don't know the difference.
I personally think both of these revamps are lovely, but THAT DRAGARTH omg. Blows me out of the water. I need one immediately if not sooner.

@kitsche
Sorry if you see it that way. I'm just defending my self. I'm also not telling people what to do, I'm telling them my opinion of what they are doing.
@syn
Never said that, if you look at my post again you will see that It was an example of what a disrespectful comment was. Wasn't saying that you said that.
@CallaSoreon
Again, Sorry if you saw it that way. I was just stating my opinion to the people who were being disrespectful.

I don't get why saying "it's ugly" is considered bashing already. If the artists cannot accept that users can be harsh, they shouldn't be artists on such a site.
But I can see the artists are perfectly fine dealing with critism, even if it sounds harsh. The positive opinions on he drawings should overweigh the negative ones.
I don't get why some users are so keen on keeping negative comments away by saying they are just bashing or being rude towards to the artist.
It's a matter of personal taste in the end, and while the art can be good as it is, they will be always things somebody will simply hate. And will say so.
No need to get so worked up about it every freaking time.

I miss the intense look on the original Montre's face.. :/ but it still looks good. It'll take some getting used to.

Also: If we keep having controversies about updating the art... how about we just stop updating the art? It isn't exactly improving. It's just becoming different. Some of the 'updates' from the past changed a pet COMPLETELY to the point of "Why isn't this a totally new color?" Others just mess with anatomy, make it look more cutesy, more cartoonish. All just different. Not better, not worse, just different. And different can be good, or different can be bad. Some people like different. I, personally, don't. And I'd love it if we could take a page from another pet site and either KEEP the old lineart OR convert to the new one.

In comparison new DM montre looks compact & softer almost like it got chibified .nLove the dragarth , waiting for it to stick out its tongue to blow a raspberry :P
@Kink
I assume you mean me when you refer to chubby.
I guess chubby isn't such the word for it as muscular? I dunno. It's mostly the front legs, chest and head that get me. I loved the long, thin look to the front legs of the old one, as well as the pointed tuft of fur on the chest that gave it a thinner feel. And the new head is definitely bigger and almost puffier (swollen?). Again, it seems feminine (old) vs. masculine (new) now and I preferred (and completely loved) the old version. (no, I wouldn't go as far as 'fat')

@MadiKate I didn't read it wrong you worded it badly.
And @Chrissacide Now THAT is a bash. Most of them I can swallow but saying the art isn't of quality, cause it very obviously is wether you like the new look or not, is NOT in ANYway okay.

@Sephy
I agree - the old Montre did look kinda off. The new one is true to the way the Montre should really look :P

If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all. If I was that artist (I'm not, but just saying), I'd be incredibly hurt.

The Montre was definitely due for a revamp, and the art is lovely. My only beef is that the shades have less contrast (markings don't really stand out). I can't believe a lot of people are for the old one, I think it's hideous. o.o The nose looks like it was jammed into it's face, there's an awkward chunk of chest fur buldging out and the Darkmatters don't look normal.

I kind of feel bad for the Kumos and Montre artists, especially. Since they're so popular, no matter how awesome whatever they come out with is, people will always complain and prefer the old versions.

NO. NO. NO YOU MAY NOT.
Montre. Fail. Can someone make an overlay with the old image? If I'm showing this site to new people, I'd like to trick them into thinking it has quality art.

I agree with what's being said by someone here about the bashing. There are some people who are putting the new artwork down (saying they need to repaint their pets or saying it's fat or it's ugly, etc). I must agree that that shouldn't happen. State your opinion, but don't bash the hard work the artists did. Saying it's ugly or fat are not opinions, but put-downs. Please don't put something down that someone else took the time to do. Think about it - would you want someone to do that to something you did? No, you wouldn't.

I really like the new montre's wings. The slight hint of purple on the upper feathers is pretty dang awesome!
And @MadiKate
You're coming off as being unnecessarily argumentative. People will always voice their opinions, and if the artist takes offence then I'm sure the moderators would intervene to stop the situation from getting out of control. It's not your job to tell people how to behave.

I had a DM Montre for a long time, and I have to say, I'm really loving this one. I'm almost sad I changed her into a Jollin. Almost.
I particularly love the Dragarth's face. <3

I knew this one would be controversial.
But I love it! I think the Montre was in desperate need of a lineart revamp, and I'm so glad the pose didn't change! Particularly love the wing to the right -- so much depth!
As for the Dragarth, love the facial expression and the lighting on the wings. Kudos to the artist(s).
And as for those who don't like the new art, remember: you can use the old art for an overlay if the new art isn't up your alley. :)

I like the new Dragarth, and the Montre is pretty cool, but I feel like his head/neck/chest area is a little off x:
@Syn: If you don't like the old Montre, you can just use the old one as an overlay. That's what I'm planning on doing :)

@MadiKate Then maybe you should watch the way you word things cause the way I read that you were pointing fingers at EVERYONE. Always remember that you can't convey tone through message on a screen.
@syn. I didn't put words in your mouth. That is exactly what you said. It was a quote, word for word. In my OPINION you seemed to be very rude and posting a lot of negative things that were not necessary to critique the artist.
@Edge
Are... are people really that... particular, for lack of a better word? I mean, I loved some of the old-old Keeto art, I still mourn the passing of the old Reborn Keeto (I was a mouthy defender of it, a bit tooo mouthy, I admit) but.... seeing the new one around the site or on my pet page doesn't send me into some sort of paralyzing rage/crying spell. Isn't the pet profile the most important part? Isn't that where you make the character your own, and show it as how you imagined it being to the rest of the site? I guess if it's that much of a problem to someone, then... okay, I guess. It just doesn't make sense to me, I just don't understand how seeing the new art in those other places is such a buzzkill. ?__?

@CallaSoreon
I did take my own advice, i am not being mean to anyone and i never once said EVERYONE was horrible, rude, or disrespectful. The people making rude comments are being those things. Just fact. Sorry.

@MadiKat Please stop putting words in my mouth. I do not like the new revamp, so I am taking the consequences aka changing my pets color. That is not bashing.
Jesus, look that word up and please stop trolling me. Thanks.
Jesus, look that word up and please stop trolling me. Thanks.
My only question is why the first letter of the Dragarth and Montre aren't being capitalized XD They ARE specie names, after all XD
@MadiKat I stopped taking you seriously when you pulled things out of your ass that no one said just to be 'witty'.
No ones life ended because of this, but my respect for you sure just did.
@Kink Ah I see, I thought you were talking to me only. I don't think it's the body that has me so cross with the new revamp, its the new head compared to the old one.
The old one had personality, it had attitude, the new one looks a little derpy.

Saying that the new montre is so terrible you have to change your pet's colour is pretty much bashing the artist.. Jus' sayin'
maybe you should stop talking about it, everything you say seems to be negative.

@MadiKate First of all there is a HUGE difference between bashing and a critique, and any REAL artist (which our site artist quite OBVIOUSLY are) always appreciate critiques on their art. Yeah there are some people bashing but most of us are giving critiques.
Also '...if you have nothing nice to say don't say anything,' as through your whole post your pretty much telling everyone they are horrible, rude, and disrespectful. Maybe you should take you own advice.

Syn: Well, I've seen more than one person say it's not sleek enough. And someone called it chubby so... shrug
Anyway, I still think it looks sleek. It just also looks like it's had something to eat. :D

People posting their opinions are the people Im fine with
Here is what you said: "The old Montre looked a LOT better than this new one. If someone had showed me them both side to side and made me guess which was the revamped version, I would have been wrong" Pretty disrespectful.
Also: "I don't like the new montre at all. I just painted my monte drark matter because it was thin and perfect.
Now I will have to repaint it.
What a bummer."
Then do it, don't announce it to the world pretty much saying the new revamp is so terrible you need a new colour for your pet. What a bummer.
Here is an opinion:
"Wow, Montre looks good, wings blah blah"
"I don't like the montre... Here is why."
Here is an insult:
"Omg the montre is so ugly"
"Don't fix things that don't need to be fixed"
"MY LIFE IS RUINED BECAUSE OF THIS"

Not loving the chest of the montre, the old one was more stylized but it's an okay revamp. As for the dragarth... Eh, I feel it could've shown a little more 'tude. It's expression is soft, more befitting of a Glacier pet but that's just my opinion.
@Syn
The current Montre looks just as sleek to me as the old one. I find the new one much more true to the way the Montre actually looks :P

Oh and NOWHERE was someone bashing the artist. Stop pulling shit out of your bum, seriously now.
@MadiKate
It's called opinion. I was not disprespectful when I said I do not like it at all because I don't. And as far as I am concerned we are allowed to state our opinion.
I did not say it was ugly, I said it doesn't look like a montre. It's stocky and thick, too furry. Montre's are a very sleek species, and the current revamp destroys that.
The art is lovely on itself but 1) It doesn't look like a montre anymore 2) The previous version was much more defined.
I am sorry for giving my honest opinion?
