The Scythe Project was a scientific experiment to create super-beings that were powerful beyond that of a normal human, and the team that lead it, Team 604, were ruthless in their endeavors, not caring for the patients or the materials they used. The project was shut down after two years of experimenting, due to a virus that the subjects were carrying. The virus was quickly eliminated, but the subjects were left in their horribly scarred state. They eventually drew together, and escaped from the facility.
Rush was Experiment #4 of Project Scythe. She and her friends originally infiltrated the testing facility to shut it down, being a group of activists from out of town, but once inside they were ambushed, and killed off. Rush, being the only one left alive, witnessed their last moments, soaked in their blood and holding their cold bodies in her hands. Because she was spared from this fate, the scientists decided they would use her in their recent project, as they needed one more subject. However, after witnessing her friends brutal deaths, she was in a state of shock, and wouldn't talk for months. The scientists attempted to alter her brain to understand computer code and program scripts- however, their attempts failed. In her shock, the rummaging they did inside her head gave her no immediate effect, though it was obvious her mind was changed. She began to have visions of her friends death, but instead of being a witness, she was killing them with her own hands. Her mind is warped beyond anything she can handle, and her brain can sometimes override her with these same visions. With the extent of her self-guilt, she created people in her head that would reassure her of being okay. But to counter these, she created another. His name was Chrome, and he was the tormented part of her mind, speaking to her and torturing her with the inevitable truth. Slowly, as Rush sank deeper into her insanity, Chrome began to become a physical being, separating from her mind to become his own being. Now two separate people, Chrome and Rush feud desperately to get the last laugh. Chrome, unseen, gathers nightmares to make himself stronger, while Rush tries to counter him with her own attacks, although her fears are too great for her to stand alone.
