Brief History

Alastor comes from two families with long lineages. The Morelands, which is his namesake, held lordship over the Woodlands for hundreds of generations. This family is one of the oldest on the continent of Medias.
The Floraels, who claim lordship to a large island off of the continent Sinistra, called Florantine, are famous for their fine wine aged to perfection. They are a rich family from their winerys.
There are 3 main continents. Medias is the largest and it sits between the two others. There are some islands off the northern coast. This contenent is the only continent to have land that has all the seasons. Winter snows are the farthest north on the islands. Autumn is north of the main land. Spring is in the center. Summer is in the south.
Sinistra is to the west of Medias. The main land is smaller than Medias and there are many islands around it. It shares both spring and summer. Spring being in the northern most part and summer being in the south.
To the east is the continent, Edessa. It is mostly desert and only the coast is settled by people. It's resources are fishing and merchanting.

"I can prove my worth!"

Alastor rose each morning before the sun came up. Being younger than his brother, Lieam often made him feel as if he was not there. He felt the chill of being in his brother's shadow and refused to let himself remain there, in the darkness.

As soon as he woke he tossed off his blanket of furs, hopped out of bed and then put on his tunic and breeches. He laced his breeches up at the waist, then continued to where he left his boots by the chair next to the hearth. The fire had died down to embers. He threw a new log inside and prodded it with the poker until the embers became a small flame. His cat, Tiblin, came out from under the pile of furs and lay close to the hearth. Tiblin was an old man of a cat. His fur was always messy. Even in his old age he still proves to be one hell of a mouser.

Alastor left his bedroom and descended down the spiral stairs around the tower to head towards the small hall to break his fast. Two of his father's serving men opened the double doors when Alastor arrived. Inside he saw Lieam already starting to begin his meal.
The two boys greeted each other with a nod. A serving woman brought out his plate of honey ham, boiled eggs and orange slices.
"After we break our fast, father wants us to gear up at the armory and practice our bow and sword at the training ground." Lieam said breaking the silence.
"I need no practice with my bow." Al said while chewing his ham off his fork.
Lieam let out a condescending sigh and rolled his eyes before finishing his meal.

"Lacie!" Alastor called out as he saw his sister walk through the double doors into the small hall. Avilace was only a year younger than him. She shared the raspberry hair color and light brown eyes of their mother, Lady Areina Florael-Moreland. Where the eldest brother, Lieam, showed resemblance to their lord father, Willhem Moreland, by having black hair and blue eyes.
"Did you hear the wolves last night?" he asked as Avilace sat next to him. A servant brought over her plate of fried eggs, bacon and orange slices. Alastor had finished his last orange slice and discarded the rind on his plate with the others.

"Yes, I did hear them, brother." She answered while cutting herself a slice of bread. "I heard them in my dreams."
"Another wolf dream?" asked Lieam.
"You've been having them a lot lately. Perhaps you are becoming one, Lacie?" japed Alastor.
"Perhaps if I am then.... AWOOOO OOOOO!" she exclaimed. She and her brothers all laughed.

Lieam stood up and servants removed his plates from the table. Alastor quickly stood up after him. Lieam led the way out the double doors and Alastor waved to his sister before he left the small hall. The two boys walked together in silence to the stables. The stable boys had their horses sattled and ready for them to ride out to the training grounds.

In Florantine, where their mother was from is known for their sour grapes which is then turned to wine, is a large island and their primary defense is the rocky shoreline if an enemy manages to get around the rocks they have towers with archers. Their mother would get frequent head pains from the sounds of steel against steel in sword fights at Eastfront Castle, so their lord father moved the training grounds on the farthest end of the castle, closer to the woods, so that his wife could not hear the sounds of swordplay. Because of this one has to ride a horse or walk. Walking takes longer to arrive, of course going horseback is faster.

Lieam and Al dismounted their horses and handed the reigns to a stable boy who was tending to their father's horse. They had made it in time to see their father spar with some of the Moreland knights. Their lord father swung his blunt practice battle axe and hit one knight in the breast plate leaving a dent and swung it around again to hit the other knight who was trying to attack him from behind.

"My Lord Willhem, your sons have arrived." called out his squire.
"About time, my sons." he called out to them. He was still quite strong in his older age. He was not out of breath after fighting off a few of his own younger knights.

The smith came out with Lieam's long sword. And the eldest went to practice on straw dummies. Alastor's wepon of choice was the bow and arrow. The weapons the people where his mother was from used in battles. Alastor's skills were quite advanced that he is able to hit moving targets. One of his father's squires throws up rotten apples into the air and Al strikes them every time.

He let loose a few arrows to hit several apples thrown up into the air when a scream echoed from the road and broke his concentration. The apples crashed to the ground, all but one with an arrow through it.

Everyone at the training ground stopped what they were doing and fled to where the scream came from. Lieam was the first to mount his horse and lead the way. Al flipped his bow through his arm and over his shoulder, mounted his horse, and was right behind Lieam.
They got half way down the road when Alastor saw that his sister was laying still on the ground. He kicked his horse hard to have it run faster."Come quick, my lords!" one of Lacie's handmaids called out. "The young Lady wont move!"

Alastor jumped off his horse and ran over. His horse fled from the sight of blood on the ground coming from the dead squirrel.
"Someone go after that horse!" Called out their lord father. "What happened!" he finished in a shout.
"Not sure, m'lord... a wolf came out from the woods... and the young Lady fell to the ground!" a young handmaiden replied. She was shaking and terrified.

Lacie was brought into her bed chamber as the examiner looked her over. Al and Lieam waited outside her bed chamber door as the examiner sent servants back and fourth to fetch what he needed to figure out what would wake her up. Lord Moreland was inside holding his daughters hand as the examiner worked hard and to the best of his abilities.

"Do you think she changed into that wolf the women saw?" Al asked.
"I do not know... it is possible." Lieam replied.

As the hours passed their Lord father called a halt to the examiner's failed attempts at waking up his daughter.
"Come in my sons," he beckoned.
The boys came in and their father waved off all the serving men and women who were helping. He even dismissed Nelia who's been Avilace's milkmaid and handmaid since she was a babe. Nelia walked out trying hard not to sob.
As she left Lord Moreland made sure there were no other ears besides his sons' and the examiner's that could listen.

"We need to find that wolf." Lord Moreland began. "We all speculate that she has changed. She must have imprinted with that wolf as soon as she saw it. I tried my best to keep her away from any animal." He paused to wipe the sweat off his face and clear his throat before he went on.
"When her dreams began... I knew." he finished.
"Father, send Al and myself out to track the wolf." Lieam suggested.
Lord Moreland paused to think a moment.
"No, my son. If anything were to happen to the both of you I would have no heir. Lacie wouldn't be able to hold claim because she is not with us." their father said.
"Then send me!" Alastor exclaimed.
"Al, not so loud." Lieam said as he pinched the bridge of his nose.
Al ignored his brother, then with a hushed voice he said, "I can do it, father. I can find her. I can prove my worth!"
