Plot Summary:

Protector is a young woman who (unbeknownst to her) is destined to be the life-long protector of a man who is constantly on the run from various types of monsters and generally horrible people looking to kill him in order to seize the power that is inside of him. His power comes from the fact that he is a reincarnation of a goddess, and Protector, likewise, is a reincarnation of a god-like warrior who was always there to protect said goddess.

You're being watched...

"What in the world?"

A young woman stood in the middle of a birch forest. It was the middle of autumn and the pale-trunked trees seemed to flaunt their stunningly red leaves. It was quiet. Calm.

The woman, Claire, looked up at the overcast sky. She then twirled around slowly, trying to take in her surroundings, stumbling slightly from the disorientation. She found herself there alone, with no explanation as to how she got there. She was out in her pajamas -- she wasn't even wearing any type of footwear.

"I didn't sleepwalk, did I?" she wondered to herself. She was unaware of the time, but it didn't feel like morning. She couldn't remember the time she went to bed, either.

Claire kept looking around. She was utterly confused, but still a bit too dazed to panic. She felt like she needed to find something.

Looking at the ground just in front of her, she spotted a gold handle. She bent down and picked it up, and with it, a long black blade was lifted out of the leaf-litter. It was a black sword.

The sword was clean and shiny, as she gazed at it she could see her reflection. It seemed familiar somehow.

"Oh dear, this looks expensive," she thought to herself. "I wonder who this belongs to."

Claire was never one to think that simply because she found something, that it was "finders keepers" for her. She never thought of herself as deserving of anything nice without earning it. The thought of keeping someone else's belongings made her feel a weird sense of guilt. This particular object though...it was as if she was entitled to it.

"YOU THERE. GIRL." a raspy male voice boomed seemingly out of no where. Startled Claire immediately dropped the sword on the ground and froze, only looking over with her eyes, then she turned her head slowly toward the direction from which the voice came.

Two men stood there. One was an stout old man with a grey beard, the other a tall younger man with short black hair and a clean-shaven face with a rather dubious expression on it.

"Is she it? She can't be it." said the younger male, in a doubtful, almost frustrated tone.

"Silence! Don't question the Warrior God's reincarnation choices!" the old man with the raspy voice snarled.

"...What?" Claire stared at them perplexed, terribly confused by both the whole situation.

"Oh please, it's bad enough my guardian is a woman but she..." the younger male paused, looking at her.

"What?" Claire repeated, bemusedly. Her eyes darted from one man to the other, silently seeking answers.

"Mm... perhaps you should explain, Reginald," said the young man to the old one.

"Yes," the old man concurred.

****************************************************
CLAIRE IS THE REINCARNATION of a warrior-demon god, simply referred to as the "Warrior God," a powerful being whose very body is built for battling.

Description:

Human-like. Very masculine. Charcoal black skin all over. Very muscular, "buff." He has six arms with blades coming out of his forearms, skull-like face, large curved horns, and crocodilian-like tale, with wide feet, short spikes for toes. Ribs look prominent, stomach rather sunken in. Again, legs are muscular. Does have hidden bat/demonic wings that can burst out of back.

"...And my friend here, Luke, is the reincarnation of a goddess, whose abilities are mainly of magic and healing. Her magic is very powerful though, and unfortunately, can be obtained by killing her in a certain way. Er...him, in this case," Reginald explained.

Annoyed, Luke grumbled, feeling rather emasculated by everything.

"Your inner soul is the Warrior God himself, Claire. You are, in fact, him. And that's why you've come here, unconsciously -- you see, it was calling you in your sleep. It was finally time for you to get your sword back," Reginald stated, smiling kindly.

"So this sword IS mine?" Claire asked.

:Yes."

"And..." Reginald paused. He took a deep breath, and hesitated a bit.

"You have a role to play," he added.

"Evil beings are after Luke. It's not uncommon for other beings to try and kill her...or him, rather.

"It's generally been your role to protect the Goddess, you see...you two have basically been involved with each other time and time again for over a thousand years. It was a vow made by the Warrior God, and that's why you're both destined to be around each other," Reginald explained.

"Um..." Claire looked over at Luke. Luke looked almost twice her size. At about 6'2" he was not a small man. Claire on the other hand was a small woman...at 4'11"

"I feel like a mistake was made here..." Claire said, timidly.

"You're not the only one." Luke replied, almost grumpily.

Claire turned to Luke.

"I'm so terribly sorry, Luke. You and I both know I'm not capable of accomplishing what's needed of me. Given the circumstances of how we met, I think I must be the Warrior God incarnate, but I didn't choose to be. I hope you'll be okay where ever you go, but I think I should leave..."

A slight feeling of guilt came over Luke. His doubts over her were not to put her down -- he didn't want to HAVE to be protected, and life had been frustrating, running away from demons. And what if she got hurt for him? He couldn't handle that guilt.

Claire put the sword down and walked away.

This is what they were waiting for...

"NOW! GRAB THE GODDESS' REINCARNATION!" a very deep, rather un-human voice shouted from the forest.

At first, no one could quite tell where it came from, but then the trees rustled violently and two massive, pale-bodied monsters leapt out of the trees and landed with a loud, earth-shaking thump. One landed near Luke and thwacked him with its arm as it hit the ground.

"PICK HIM UP!" yelled the other monster. The first monster that hit Luke threw him over its shoulder and ran.

"LUKE!" Claire screamed. Claire, without even thinking, picked up the sword and chased after it, frantically.

The second monster stopped her, whacking her with a freakishly large hand, she was knocked back a few feet. It lunged at her, but she cowered and stuck her sword out as a defense. The monster cautiously stopped for a moment to avoid impalement.

As it stood, a loud bang was heard from behind it, and the monster's head suddenly exploded, covering Claire with gunk. Reginald shot the monster in the head with a gun. He then quickly tried to shoot the monster carrying Luke, but it had already run too far.

"Claire, YOU must go after it! Use your sword!" Reginald shouted. Claire wondered why she had to do it when he had the gun, but Reginald was an older man who obviously couldn't run very fast. Claire was small but she was agile. She just got up and ran.

She sprinted as fast and as hard as she could. As she ran she began to feel lightheaded, her peripheral vision blackened, and she felt a thumping in her head. Suddenly everything from her perspective went in slow-motion.

The monster stopped, struggling to carry Luke as he squirmed. The monster grabbed Luke by his feet, and started to swing him. It swung him up, then slammed him down onto the ground. It did it again, and again and again

Claire stopped and watched the horror in front of her. Tears filled her eyes, mouth agape, gasping for breath, she nearly fell onto knees, both from exhaustion and shock. Claire could barely hear a snapping noise over Luke's agonising screams -- likely the sound of his leg breaking. Luke's screams suddenly stop after that. His body mercifully put him into an unconscious state.

The silence triggered Claire more than the screaming did. Fearing his death, Claire screamed as loud as she could, and charged with all her might, with her sword pointed forward. The monster flinged the unconscious man at her, and his body toppled her to the ground. Her sword flew out of her hand as she went down.

With his dead weight on her, she struggled just to get up.

"Now I can kill both of you." the monster said almost with its growling voice. It picked up the sword, and slowly raised it up, ready to thrust it downward through the both of them. Claire, filled with fear, blacked out.

...

Suddenly, a charcoal-black hand grabbed the blade of the sword.

It was Claire's.

This charcoal black spread throughout her body, from her hand, down her arm, to her torso, and up her neck and face. She was transforming. Her eyes looked like they were no longer there -- they had become mere sockets. Her body shaped-shifted. She grew muscular and taller. Her clothes meant for her original tiny body had been ripped up, further revealing her new body. Horns resembling ram horns grew on her head, and her long blonde hair disappeared.

Holding the blade in her hand, she got up, rolling Luke's body off of her. As she stood up, it was apparent she was suddenly taller than the monster itself. The monster, still holding the sword, was frozen with bewilderment. Claire thrusted the handle back into the monster, knocking it backward, and flipped the sword around. With impressive speed, she sliced the monster's head off.

She was a warrior god.
