Neal just wants justice. He lives for it, for everyone and everything. Legal or not, he wants justice that will leave a lasting mark. He wants bad people to learn from their misdeeds, to ensure that they can't ever commit them again. This is not a rational want. It's angry, and violent, and born of frustration. It can't be placated with gentle reassurance and it won't be set aside for apathy. It's poetic and dangerous, and the pursuit will likely destroy him. But Neal, much like an idea, cannot die, so he's not worried. He'll internalize whatever self-infliction it causes and use it to "stoke the fire," so to speak.
