Disaster the Misfortune

There are seventy-two demons in the world and Abaddon is their king. Each demon draws their strength from a different source, and they all generally try to influence the human world to do more of what gives them strength. Eventually this led to arguments amongst the demons over who should get more influence. A coup was organized against Abaddon, and civil war broke out. This ended with many demons dead and the remaining ones scattered throughout the world, with no single demon in a clear position of power. Abaddon was so weakened by the fight that he could no longer maintain his own form, and instead had to possess and control other creatures.

Hanna thought she had found the perfect boyfriend until he was possessed by a demon. When Hanna discovered this, she offered herself in her boyfriend's place, but the demon said she wasn't strong enough and neither was her boyfriend. The demon was looking for the perfect host, and he agreed to relinquish Hanna's boyfriend if she would help him find that host. Hanna made a pact with the demon and thought her boyfriend would understand, but as soon as he found out she had made a deal with a demon, he left her.

Thus Hanna set out alone with Abaddon, spending many years trying to find him the perfect host. Generally Hanna posed as a girlfriend for the potential host, giving Abaddon time to experiment with possessing the person without their knowledge to test their strength. Some lived through this and others didn't. Eventually Hanna and Abaddon began frequenting the crime ring, Abaddon following some invisible trail towards the right host.

Aft began thieving shortly after dropping out of college and found he had quite a knack for it. He became known as the go to guy for black market thefts, and gained quite a bit of popularity. That's when Hanna met him, and started dating him. By that time, Hanna had been with most of the crime lords, and Aft was flattered that she would go out with someone so low on the chain. But she, of course, had ulterior motives.

After a year and many preliminary possessions, Abaddon decided that Aft was the perfect host he had been looking for. He told Hanna to poison Aft with his essence, as a way for him to fully possess him, and said that she could take all of Aft's stolen riches to aid her in her new life, as she was free to leave him. Hanna did just as Abaddon said, and Aft was left thinking she had tried to murder him unsuccessfully. Aft wasn't aware he had even been possessed, as Abaddon never spoke to him, but found he had a sudden ability to survive anything that was thrown at him. He also found that he would occasionally black out, and sometimes when he woke from such a spell, he was surrounded by dead bodies and covered in blood.

Initially Aft was consumed by a hatred for Hanna, ruthlessly searching for her and trying to regain his stolen wealth. But while he was busy with his search, Abaddon was busy plotting a different plan. Abaddon drew his strength from violence and, like all demons, chaos. He sought to bring about the apocalypse as a way to introduce more violence and chaos to the world and help him regain even more strength, and he succeeded.

After the apocalypse, Abaddon began to possess Aft more and more frequently, and Aft began to question his own sanity. He was continually blacking out and finding himself the apparent murderer of most the strangers he came across. And he began to realize that, in addition to being apparently invincible, he was also immortal, as he could still recall life before the apocalypse while it became a legend to the world's new inhabitants.
