Spring.
The season of happiness, or so everyone thought.
Or so everyone thinks.

__________________________

For BlueSkys, Spring had always been a season of sadness.

It was true that Blue had always been a happy Montre. Happier than most. Or so everyone thought. Who could possibly think otherwise? Blue was always a fun one to talk to, and people felt happier around him. At least, they thought that they could always try to be funny, because Blue would always laugh at their jokes, and tease them in return.

In truth, Blue always felt lonely. He didn't think that anybody understood him, and although he loved to make others laugh, it was only a substitute for his own lack of inner laughter. When he wasn't around company, Blue did not have to hide his depression, and often preferred to wander about Subeta by himself, immersed in his thoughts.

One sunny day, as Blue flew around Subeta, looking for a soft cloud to ponder in, or a quiet corner to read in, he could not help but notice the freshness of the air. Indeed, one of the only things that he loved about Spring was its surprisingly refreshing breezes.

Closing his eyes, Blue inhaled, breathing in the scents that were carried by the wind.

Ah, Blue thought, engulfing himself in the bright vivid images that popped into his mind as he smelt the scent of flowers and fresh grass.

If only everyday could have such wonderful weather.

But, as Blue opened his eyes, he felt a fresh wave of loneliness.

While engulfed in his vivid images, he had unintentionally landed in a public park. Public parks were, like many other things, a source of happiness for most people, who loved the feel of the grass on their toes and the sound of children playing games.

But Blue could not stand being alone in the park, especially in the Spring. Everywhere he looked, there were happy couples everywhere. Happy couples that were telling each other how their day went, or venting about their feelings.

They're so passionate, Blue thought as he looked around the park, seeing couples hugging or cuddling with each other. Why can't I have that kind of connection with someone? Why can't someone take the time to try and know me better?

Feeling the tears that were slowly creeping into his eyes, Blue spread his wings and flew.

Passion. Blue thought. What is true passion? What is my true passion?

Blue instinctively flew towards his favorite quiet place in all of Subeta, Sunningrocks.

Blue loved Sunningrocks, one, because he was the only one who knew exactly where to find it, and two, because it was hidden in a secret cave behind a waterfall.

He always felt calmer there, but today was different.

As Blue crashed into the cave, the tears were pouring down his cheeks, and he could not stop them, nor did he attempt to. He also did not try to move from the otherwise uncomfortable position that he had landed in, but rather decided to let the sorrow flow from his heart.

All Blue could think as he lay on the cave floor was: What is my true passion? Will I ever find anybody that will cure this everlasting loneliness?

For what seemed like hours, Blue lay on the floor, sobbing as the feeling of loneliness throbbed in his heart.

When Blue finally sat up, his limbs were sore from his crash landing.

Walking to the entrance of the cave, Blue saw a tiny rainbow.

How pretty, Blue observed, wondering what the rainbow was and where it had come from. Then, he thought: If only life could be so pretty.

Out of an angry impulse, Blue slashed at the tiny rainbow, causing it to shatter. He then turned to retreat back into the cave.

Something strange happened.

Although Blue did not notice it, the scattered pieces of the rainbow began to follow his shadow.

They first latched onto his tail, coloring it's base. Then, as the color slowly crept up Blue's tail, it began to bleach his fur. Soon, the only colored parts that Blue had left on his body were his eyes, wings, and parts of his paws, ears, and tail.

"What the . . ." said Blue, recoiling. Intuitively, blobs of color shot out from his paws.

Whoa. thought Blue.

Tears of happiness were beginning to form on the corners of his eyes. Blue had finally found his place in the world.

_____________________

To this day, though Blue is always seen smiling, he has never gotten rid of that sense of loneliness in his heart. As soon as company disappears, Blue's radiant smile turns to a sad one, a sad smile that he never shows to anyone.

Although you might smile or point in wonder while looking at a pretty rainbow in the sky one day, always remember that Blue is the one that is making you smile.

Maybe this is why rainbows occur more frequently in the Spring, and only after it rains. ~~
