This is a tribute pet to all the goldens in the world. I myself have only owned one, Sophie, but I have had the great joy of knowing a few others and have realised how much dogs actually affect us, and even change us. These are all true stories of goldens that I have known.

Rosie

The day that Rosie came to the adoption center she was tiny quivering mess. As she was only 8 weeks old, she was supposed to be small, but she was much smaller than she should have been. She was also painfully thin, you could see all her ribs.

She had been abandoned by the road in a cardboard box by her owners who had not even bothered to bring her to the adoption center. She was fearful, shy, and would not trust anyone. She would back away from anyone who came her way, and it was a wonder they even managed to catch her to get the to the center.

But little by little, over the course of two months, the staff managed to build her confidence and trust up from the ground. She began to tolerate people near her, and even started to enjoy being petted! Soon, she began to eagerly run over to whoever was on duty as soon as her kennel was opened and would wait, happily wagging her tail until someone cuddled her.

It was massive leap from the quivering little puppy who had come in two months ago. She had grown, and filled out as well, now looking much healthier.

After that, it wasn't long before she found a loving home, with a family who really loved her. After a couple of weeks, she settled in and had never been happier.

Dax

When Dax was a puppy, he was always in some kind of trouble. Wether it was pushing the plant pots over and smashing them to pieces or trying to eat the umbrellas, he always seem to be doing something silly. His family wrote it off as just puppy behaviour, and said he would grow out of it. But it never did go away as he got older.

And one day, his family had finally had enough. The last umbrella had been found, without it's handle and with all the fabric chewed off, on the sofa.

They thought that maybe Dax had too much energy. Since he was quite fast, they decided to try agility courses. This didn't work very well at first, Dax would just crash though all of the obstacles and grab the treats.

But after a few weeks and lots more training, he could fly over them all! His speed and height made him ideal for agility, and since he was doing so well, they decided to enter him in a small competition a dog rescue was having.

The day of Dax's first competition, everyone was very excited. But, unfortunately, it turned out to be a complete disaster.

Dax didn't like all the people staring at him, and just stood stock still, refusing to budge. In the end, his family gave up and took him home. Maybe he wasn't cut out to compete, but at least there were no more chewed umbrellas!

Bella

Bella was just like any other puppy. Happy, bouncy and eager to make her humans happy. But there was one difference.

Before Bella had even been born, she had been chosen to be trained as a guide dog. Her mother had already given birth to seven puppies out of which five had gone on to be guide dogs. So the officials had high hopes for Bella.

Her first home was with "Puppy parents". Puppy parents are the people who volunteer to raise the puppies under the watchful eye of the charity, until they are six months old.

When the puppies reach six months, they are assessed and only the best move on. Then the ones picked go to another temporary home to complete their training. Once they turn a year old, they are assessed once again and the very best are taken to be matched with blind people.

But Bella made the mistake of falling in love with her puppy parents, a common thing for guide dogs in training.

The charity tried everything to separate Bella from her parents and her parents tried too, but it just left Bella confused. She refused to do anything anyone told her and would only do what her puppy parents asked. She simply ignored everyone else.

In the end, the charity let Bella stay with her puppy parents for a donation since there was simply no way they could be separated. Her puppy parents were over the moon, and relived to not have to give her up, as they had been dreading it. Bella was happy also, received that everything was back to the way it was.

So in the end, her first home was her last one after all!

Oscar

When Oscar was a puppy, it was clear he did not like getting messy, or dirty. He never wanted to swim in the sea, or roll in the mud. He much preferred to just sit by his owner's side while she read a book or stroked his fur.

He was a quiet dog, and his owner had no problem training him. Oscar always seemed contented, never over-excited.

But all dogs seem to have one thing that they really love. And for Oscar that one thing was being brushed and cuddled by his owner.

He never brought over his lead, like other dogs, instead he was always bringing his grooming brushes to his owner.

And his owner loved to sit there with him, brushing him and always being careful not to brush him too much, otherwise he'd lose the warmth of his fur coat. She often used a massage mit instead so that they wouldn't have that problem.

Oscar may not have been the most extraordinary dog, but he was the world to his human.

Sophie

Sophie was an amazing dog, so full of life and so eager to please. She was nearly always happy and ready to play. She was energetic, and was often to be found outside, having fun. She especially enjoyed taking long walks in the woods.

Sophie loved so many things. She loved her old, tatty yellow towel. She loved water, and especially being able to go swimming. She loved the autumn leaves and jumping and rolling around in them. She loved her old squeaky newspaper toy that she had as a puppy. She loved the snow, and rolling around in it as soon as the first flakes started coming down. But most of all, she loved her humans, who didn't always get things right, but always returned her love.

This is my dedication to a wonderful dog, who despite living a happy life, left us too soon. Rest in peace angel.♥️
