Another day passed as the young Ruffie dashed back and forth in the store front window of a discreet little pet shop. She was the last of her litter that remained, her brothers and sisters long since carried off in the arms of loving new owners. Even the runt of the litter had been chosen before her, and all because of one small defect in her biology - a pair of hazy blue eyes that could neither see the world beyond the window display that housed her, nor the evaluating eyes of prospective pet-parents. She tried ever so hard to seem unimpaired by her handicap, memorizing every inch of the glass box that held her and always romping about happily and freely so everyone would know she was a wonderfully friendly and spunky pup. The shopkeeper even used his prized possession, a Sweetheart Potion he had come upon some years ago, to aid in her adoption. "All Sweetheart pets have bright blue eyes. Like this, no one will ever know you're blind." He had told her, patting her head reassuringly as she gulped it down. But still, none that had come along had chosen her, and there she was, left behind by her litter and quickly growing out of the charming traits of her cutest puppy stages. Then came the woman who smelled of the wild. On a day no different from any other, she stopped in front of the Ruffie's enclosure, chuckling lightly at the pup's hilarious antics. So eager was the little pink pup, that for a moment, she lost track of herself, and ran head on into cool glass panel with a resounding thud. At that moment, it seemed as though all her other senses had failed her too, and she thought that maybe, she might just fall into a hopeless purgatory - a place with no direction, no warmth, and no escape. But she was swiftly pulled free by two strong, yet tender hands that lifted her to what must have been eye level for the mysterious wild woman, and held there to imagine the appraising gaze of this stranger who might just be the one. "Can't see, can you?" said a rich, husky voice with the slightest feminine pitch, "No worries. After all, I've always heard it said that love is blind."The sturdy grasp pulled the young Ruffie into a cozy embrace that cradled her endearingly. There was a short exchange between the woman and shopkeeper, and it all passed in a daydream like daze. Then the hearty tone of her new mother's voice aimed down at her, declaring "Let's go home, Marmeryn."Marmeryn had always wondered what her owner would look like, but had resigned herself to never knowing due to her condition. In this case however, her owner's appearance was no mystery. She turned her muzzle up towards the woman's face and nuzzled her happily. "Yes, you look very kind." she joyfully barked.
